First time I saw Star Guardian Jinx load into my game I thought someone was trolling with a custom skin. The whole magical girl aesthetic on Jinx felt like it shouldnt work. Chaotic ADC who blows everything up dressed in pink and white with a star familiar floating around? Played three games against it that week in Diamond and every single time I sat there watching the recall animation instead of farming. Not great for my cs numbers.

How Star Guardian changes Jinx

This is a full Legendary at 1820 RP and Riot made sure you feel every bit of that price tag. New model, new particles on every ability, completely new voice lines performed by Sarah Anne Williams, and a recall that tells a whole story. The base silhouette shifts from punk anarchist to magical girl warrior and somehow Jinx’s personality bleeds through even harder.

Fishbones and Pow-Pow get complete redesigns. Pow-Pow becomes this star-infused minigun with purple and pink trails on each auto. Switching to Fishbones with Q turns the rocket launcher into something that looks alive, and the rockets leave sparkle trails across the lane. Kinda feels like playing a completely different champion when you toggle between them.

W is where things get interesting. Zap fires a bolt of star energy that reads way cleaner than base Jinx W in teamfights. Easier to track, easier to dodge honestly, but the visual payoff is worth it. E chompers drop as little star mines with a distinct purple glow. Had a game last Thursday where I trapped their Kai’Sa in river with three chompers and the particle explosions looked like a fireworks show.

Super Mega Death Rocket on R is the highlight. Massive star projectile that grows as it travels, trailing pink and purple energy across the entire Rift. Landing a cross-map ult with this skin genuinely feels different. The impact VFX on kill is chef’s kiss level. Been running this in Diamond for years and the R animation alone justifies the purchase for me.

The recall animation deserves its own paragraph. Jinx sits down with Shiro and Kuro, her star familiars, in this whole magical transformation sequence. It’s one of the longer recalls in the game and I never cancel it. Not gonna lie, I’ve died to ganks because I refused to interrupt the recall. Worth it every time.

Star Guardian Season 1 and the splash

Released October 5, 2016. Season 6 worlds era. Star Guardian Season 1 was when Riot proved they could build an entire thematic universe around a skinline and have it actually matter. Lux was the first Star Guardian but Jinx turned the whole concept sideways. She’s the rebel guardian, the one who doesn’t follow the rules, and the skin leans into that hard.

Jean ‘Curing’ Go nailed the splash. The composition puts Jinx front and center with Shiro and Kuro flanking her, stars exploding in the background. It captures the duality of the character perfectly. Magical girl aesthetics with Jinx’s signature chaos energy underneath.

(Random aside: this splash has been my desktop wallpaper on and off since 2017 and I’m not even a Jinx main.)

The skin has 1 chroma variant, the Mythic edition. It shifts the palette into deeper purples and pinks with a more premium feel. Not easy to get your hands on though. The base colorway is already strong so the Mythic chroma is more of a flex than a necessity. Voice lines stay default for the chroma but since this Legendary already has a complete new VO package with Sarah Anne Williams, thats plenty.

Still in the shop at 1820 RP. Permanent availability. No vault nonsense, no loot exclusivity. You want it, you buy it.

The voice work carries hard

Real talk though. The new VO is what elevates Star Guardian Jinx from great skin to S-tier Jinx cosmetic. Sarah Anne Williams brought a slightly different energy to the performance. Still unhinged, still chaotic, but with these moments of vulnerability that reference the Star Guardian lore. The interactions with Shiro and Kuro mid-game add personality that base Jinx just doesn’t have.

Movement quotes hit different. Jinx talks to her familiars like they’re her only friends and honestly some of the lines are surprisingly emotional for a champion who normally just wants to blow things up. The kill lines keep the manic energy. Best of both worlds.

Could be wrong here but I think the voice filter or processing they used gives the lines a slightly brighter tone than base. Makes sense for the magical girl theme. Every ability proc has associated voice callouts that feel natural, not forced. Spamming abilities in late-game teamfights sounds like organized chaos instead of repetitive noise.

Should you buy Star Guardian Jinx?

Straight talk: this is arguably the best Jinx skin if you care about the complete package. Model, particles, voice, recall, thematic cohesion. 1820 RP well spent for mains. I’ve seen maybe two other skins in my games all season that compete with this level of polish on an ADC.

If you one-trick Jinx or even just have her in your ADC rotation for climbing, Star Guardian is the lock-in. The Q toggle feels distinct between forms, the R is the most satisfying rocket in her kit, and the VO adds genuine personality to every game. Been daily driving this one across maybe 150 ranked games since season 9 I think or 10 dont remember exactly. Point being it holds up years later.

Only skip if you absolutely cannot stand the magical girl aesthetic or if you’re waiting for a Legendary sale. Project Jinx and Odyssey Jinx exist as alternatives but neither matches the voice work or the recall quality. For Jinx mains specifically, this is the one.
