Ruined Shyvana

First time I saw Ruined Shyvana load in, I thought someone had modded their client. The green-black corruption crawling across her armor looked way too clean for an Epic tier skin. Been running this as my default Shyvana skin since it dropped in January 2021, and honestly it still holds up. Something about the Ruination aesthetic just fits a half-dragon better than it has any right to.

What the Ruination actually does to Shyvana

The VFX overhaul is where Riot put the budget. Her Q procs with this sickly green energy that reads really well in teamfights, especially when you’re diving the backline. W leaves a corrupted trail that looks distinct from base, not just a recolor but actual new particle work. Solid stuff.

E is the standout ability here. The fireball gets replaced with this concentrated Ruined blast, dark green core with black edges. Kinda feels like you’re throwing Viego’s essence at people. In dragon form the E splash zone has enough visual clarity that your team can actually see where you marked, which is more than I can say for some of her other skins.

Not gonna lie, the recall animation carries weight too. Shyvana kneeling as the Ruination energy consumes her, wings spreading with that green mist. Played maybe 40 games the first week it came out just to see it over and over. The transformation into dragon form keeps the corrupted theme consistent. Green flames, darkened scales, the whole package.

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. For 1350 RP thats expected, and Karen Strassman’s original performance works fine with the darker aesthetic anyway.

The Ruined skinline and where Shyvana fits

Released January 21, 2021. Right in the middle of the Ruination event buildup, season 11. Jeremy ‘Jermu’ Anninos nailed the splash, capturing Shyvana mid-transformation with Viego’s corruption spreading across her wings. The composition is aggressive, she looks like she’s about to dive your ranked game and take no prisoners.

The Ruined line was Riot’s big lore push that year. Shyvana made sense for it canonically, the whole Demacia-dragon tension already existed and layering Viego’s influence on top gave her this tragic edge. Could be wrong here but I think Ruined Shyvana actually sold the fantasy better than some of the other Ruined skins that dropped around the same time.

8 chromas total. Cursed is the one worth talking about, dark base with gold accents that makes her look like she embraced the corruption willingly. Pearl flips the whole vibe to an icy white that honestly reads more like an Ice Drake variant than a Ruined skin. Tanzanite pushes into deep purple territory and I’ve been seeing it more in my Diamond games lately, especially from Shyvana jungle one-tricks.

Is 1350 RP worth it for Ruined Shyvana

Real verdict: if you play Shyvana jungle at all, this is top two material. The VFX are clean, the thematic is strong, and the recall doesnt get old. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get, especially compared to some Epic skins that barely change the particles.

Had a game last Thursday where I full cleared into a level 6 dragon form gank bot lane and the Ruined VFX on the dive looked genuinely intimidating. (Random aside: my duo partner thought I was playing a different champion for a second because of how different dragon form reads.) The green fire trail during W in dragon form specifically gives you this presence that base Shyvana just doesn’t have.

Skip this if you already own Ice Drake and dont play Shyvana regularly. But for mains? Been daily driving this since season 11 and keep coming back to it even after Immortal Journey dropped. The Ruined aesthetic ages well because it’s not tied to a seasonal gimmick. Still in the shop, grab it next time Shyvana is in your jungle rotation. Best Shyvana skin if you lean into the darker fantasy, and at 1350 RP the value is there for anyone climbing with her this season.
