First time I saw Lunar Wraith Sylas load in, I thought someone was running a custom skin. The whole spectral energy wrapped around his chains looked nothing like base Sylas. Been maining Sylas on and off since his release and this was the skin I locked in for maybe 60 ranked games straight back in early season 9. Still holds up.
How Lunar Wraith changes the feel
The chains are the star here. Base Sylas has these clunky Demacian petricite shackles, but Lunar Wraith swaps them for ghostly teal energy that trails behind every movement. His Q sends out these spectral wisps that fan out wider than you’d expect visually. Feels like the hitbox is bigger even though it isnt. The detonation on the second part has this satisfying teal burst that reads clean in teamfights.
W is where it gets interesting. The lunge animation has this wraithlike afterimage that follows Sylas forward. Looks sick when you’re diving the backline and need to heal off their ADC. Not gonna lie, the heal VFX with the green-teal swirl made me think I was getting more health back than I actually was for the first few games.
E chain throw has ghostly particles trailing the projectile. When it connects and you dash in, there’s this burst of spectral energy around both you and the target. Really satisfying when you land it on someone trying to peel for their carry. The R steal animation keeps the wraith theme too. Stealing ults feels appropriately villainous with the dark energy surrounding Sylas during the channel.
New recall animation is solid. Sylas channels this dark lunar energy through his chains, floating slightly off the ground before getting pulled back to base. Short and clean. No new voice lines though, kept the base VO. Fergus O’Donnell’s performance still works fine with the skin fantasy honestly.
The Lunar Revel line and release context
Lunar Wraith Sylas dropped January 25, 2019. That was literally Sylas’s launch patch. Riot gave him a skin on day one, which they used to do more often back then. The Lunar Revel skinline has always been one of Riot’s strongest thematic sets. Caitlyn got a Lunar Wraith skin too, and I think the whole wraith sub-theme within Lunar Revel hits harder than the beast variants.
Zeen Chin nailed the splash. The composition with Sylas breaking free of spectral chains against that blood moon backdrop. There’s real energy in the pose. (Random aside: I had this splash as my desktop background for like three months after release, the color palette is that good.)
6 chromas total if you want variety. Obsidian turns the whole thing dark and moody, basically shadow assassin vibes on a bruiser mage. Amethyst shifts the spectral energy to purple which honestly reads better against Summoner’s Rift greens than the base teal does. Pearl goes for this clean white wraith look. Could be wrong here but I think Obsidian is the move for most people. The dark tones just suit the wraith fantasy better than base.
Legacy vault skin though. Can’t just grab it whenever you want. Gotta wait for Lunar Revel events or get lucky with Hextech crafting. Seen maybe 4 of these in my Diamond games all season because of that.
Where it sits among Sylas skins
Sylas has gotten some heavy hitters since 2019. PROJECT Sylas exists. Ashen Slayer exists. Battle Wolf exists. Lunar Wraith holds its own as the OG though. The VFX are distinct enough that you wont mistake it for any other Sylas skin in lane. Around last September I went back to this after spamming PROJECT for a month and the cleaner particle effects felt like a relief.
For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, you get new VFX on every ability, new recall, and a solid splash. Standard pricing, above-average skin. The Lunar Revel thematic gives it this specific identity that the more generic tech-themed skins lack. When you’re in a comp where you need to engage and steal the right ult in a chaotic teamfight, the visual clarity on this skin actually helps. The teal particles stand out against most ability spam.
One thing that bugs me slightly. The auto attack chain animations don’t feel as weighty as base Sylas. Might be overthinking it but when you’re csing in lane pre-6, the autos feel floatier. Minor gripe. Not a dealbreaker when the ability VFX carry this hard.
Should you buy Lunar Wraith Sylas?
Real verdict: if you main Sylas and you see this in the vault rotation or Your Shop, grab it. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The wraith aesthetic is unique in his skin catalog. Nothing else gives Sylas that ghostly supernatural edge.
Been running this in ranked on and off for years now. Last Tuesday I pulled it out for a five game Sylas streak in Diamond and it still felt fresh. The Lunar Revel line ages well because Riot put real effort into those VFX. Skip it if you already own Ashen Slayer and only want one Sylas skin in your collection. But if you’re building out the full Sylas wardrobe, Lunar Wraith Sylas earns its spot. Top pick for Sylas mains who want something different from the edgy dark themes that dominate his newer releases.
