First time I saw Longhorn Alistar in a loading screen I thought someone modded a cowboy hat onto a bull. Thats literally what this is. A bull wearing cowboy gear. And somehow it works. Been running this skin on and off since maybe season 4, back when I was grinding out of Gold and Alistar support was my free ticket to lane prio every game.
What Longhorn Alistar actually changes
Real talk though, this is a 520 RP Standard tier skin from 2011. You’re not getting new particles. You’re not getting a fresh recall animation. Voice lines stay base. What you get is a full model swap that turns Alistar into a rodeo bull with a brown leather vest, cowboy hat, and what looks like chaps on his legs. The horns got a slight reskin too, curving out wider like actual longhorn cattle.
The color palette shifts from Alistar’s default purple to earthy browns and tans. Looks clean against the Rift honestly. When you W someone into a wall, there’s something satisfying about a cowboy bull headbutting a Katarina into the tower. Had exactly that happen last Thursday around midnight in a Diamond 3 game. Worth the price of admission alone.
No new VFX on Q or any abilities. Your Pulverize looks identical to base. Same with E heal and R. For the price point nobody should expect otherwise. Simple change – huge impact on how the champion reads visually. The silhouette with that hat is instantly recognizable even in a messy teamfight.
The High Noon connection and release history
Longhorn Alistar dropped February 16, 2011. Early League days. Part of the High Noon skinline before High Noon became the massive thematic universe it is now with demons and angels and all that lore. Back then it was just cowboys. Alistar, Twisted Fate, Yasuo later. The original western trio before Riot went full supernatural with the line.
No splash artist credited in the data which tracks for skins from that era. Riot’s art team was smaller back then and individual credits werent always listed. The splash itself is dated but has charm. Alistar standing in what looks like a dusty canyon, horns out, hat tilted. (Random aside: I used this splash as my Discord avatar for like three months in season 9 I think or 10 dont remember.)
Legacy vault skin. Sits in the vault most of the year so you either need to catch a Legacy sale event or get lucky rolling it from Hextech chests. No chromas available which makes sense given the age and price tier.
Should you pick up Longhorn Alistar?
Kinda feels like this skin gets overlooked because Alistar has flashier options now. Moo Cow exists. Blackfrost exists. Hextech exists. But Longhorn has something those dont. Simplicity. Not every skin needs to be a visual spectacle with chromas and new particles.
520 RP feels fair for what you get. Model swap on a champion where the model is what matters most since you’re spending half the game in melee range anyway. Could be wrong here but I think this reads better in-game than some of his more expensive skins. The brown tones pop against the green of the Rift in a way that default purple Alistar just doesnt.
For Alistar mains who want a clean understated look, Longhorn is worth grabbing if it rotates out of the Legacy vault. Not gonna replace Moo Cow for the meme value or Blackfrost for the flex, but for just locking in your support and playing the lane? Solid pick. Been my go-to Alistar skin when I dont want to overthink it. 520 RP well spent for mains. Just gotta wait for Riot to crack open that vault.
