First time I saw Dragonslayer Vayne in a loading screen was back in like season 2 or 3, cant remember exactly. Someone on my team locked in Vayne with this skin and I remember thinking the splash looked way more intimidating than base. Been running it on and off since I picked up Vayne as a secondary ADC pick around season 5, and honestly it still holds up better than people give it credit for.
What Dragonslayer Vayne actually changes
So this is a Standard tier skin at 975 RP, which means you’re not getting a full VFX overhaul or anything wild. But Riot did add new visual effects here, which is notable for a 975 skin from 2011. The crossbow redesign is the star. Vayne’s holding this dragon-themed weapon that looks like it was forged from actual dragon parts. Scales, claws, the whole aesthetic.
The bolts have a slightly different visual trail when you’re cs-ing or poking in lane. Not sure if it’s just me but the auto attacks feel crunchier with this skin. Could be placebo. Probably is. Her Q tumble animation stays the same but the weapon model during it reads cleaner against darker Rift backgrounds. Voice lines stay base, no VO refresh on this one.
Playing this skin, the R stealth feels the same visually but the overall silhouette with the dragon armor reads differently in teamfights. Had a game last Wednesday where the enemy support thought I was a different champ for a split second during a bot lane engage. Small thing but it matters.
Dragon World line and the 2011 release
Dragonslayer Vayne dropped August 24, 2011. Early League days. Part of the Dragon World skinline, which Riot has expanded a ton since then with Dragonslayer Pantheon, Dragonslayer Braum, and others. Vayne was one of the first in the line though.
No splash artist credited in the data for this one, which tracks for older skins. Riot wasnt always consistent about crediting artists back then. The splash itself has aged okay. Not amazing by 2024 standards but the composition is solid. (Random aside: I used to have this splash as my desktop background in college and my roommate thought it was from a different game entirely.)
3 chromas available for Dragonslayer Vayne. Chaos Red is my pick, the deep crimson makes the dragon armor pop harder than base. Chaos Silver has a cleaner look if you want something less aggressive. Shop has it at 975 RP, permanent availability.
Should you pick up Dragonslayer Vayne?
Real verdict: for 975 RP this is a decent Vayne skin but it’s competing against some heavy hitters. Project Vayne exists. Spirit Blossom Vayne exists. If you’re a Vayne one-trick climbing through ranked you probably already own three or four of her skins anyway.
Kinda feels like this skin occupies a weird middle ground. It’s better than Vindicator or Aristocrat by a mile, but it doesnt reach the level of her Legendary or Epic options. Been maining Vayne with this equipped for maybe 30 games this season in Diamond and the VFX additions at 975 RP are fair. Not overpriced for what you get. Skip it if you already have Project or Sentinel, but for Vayne mains building a collection or anyone who vibes with the Dragon World fantasy, 975 RP well spent. Late-game when you’re diving the backline with three items, the dragon armor silhouette just hits different than base.
