First time I saw Astronaut Rammus load into my game I thought someone was trolling. A space armadillo rolling through the jungle in a full EVA suit. Took me maybe two games to realize this skin actually goes hard. The whole concept shouldnt work but it does, and thats the thing about Rammus skins in general – the dumber the idea, the better the execution.

What the skin actually brings to the table

So this is an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, meaning you get new VFX, a new recall animation, and updated ability particles. No new voice lines though. Voice stays default. Rammus still says “ok” and honestly what else would you need.

The Q powerball is where I noticed the biggest difference. Rammus curls up into this glowing orbital pod thing, leaves behind a trail of space dust and star particles as he rolls through the jungle. Looks clean against the Rift’s green. The W defensive curl gets this hexagonal force field effect, like some kind of energy shield you’d see on a sci-fi ship. Not gonna lie, it makes you feel tankier even though obviously it changes nothing mechanically.

E taunt has these little satellite dishes or antenna things that pop out. Subtle but noticeable if you’re paying attention. The R tremors send out these shockwave pulses that look like seismic readings from a space station – concentric rings spreading outward with a blue-white glow. Played maybe 200 games with this skin across season 11 and 12, and the ult VFX never got old. Every teamfight in dragon pit felt like I was causing a moonquake.

The recall animation is the real selling point for me. Rammus plants a little flag, does a small moon bounce, the whole astronaut landing sequence. Short and sweet. Been running this as my main Rammus skin since it dropped in July 2021 and the recall still gets me.

The Astronauts line and release context

Astronaut Rammus dropped July 1, 2021. Mid-season 11. West Studio nailed the splash – Rammus floating in zero gravity with Earth reflected in his visor. The Astronauts skinline is one of Riot’s more wholesome themes. You got Astronaut Bard, Astronaut Veigar, Astronaut Corki all in the same universe. Kinda feels like Riot looked at the roster and picked the most unlikely champions to send to space. Rammus fits perfectly because the whole rolling mechanic translates so naturally into orbital movement.

8 chromas total. Sapphire is my go-to because the deep blue reads like an actual space suit you’d see on a real mission. Amethyst hits different too, the purple gives Rammus this alien commander vibe that works with the theme. Ruby exists for the people who want everything red, standard stuff. (Random aside: I once had a full Astronaut comp in ARAM with four of us running the space skins and it was genuinely the best lobby I’ve been in all season.)

Could be wrong here but I think the Astronauts batch from 2021 was one of the stronger releases that year. The quality across the whole set felt consistent. Not every skinline can say that.

Rammus in ranked and how the skin feels in practice

Real talk though, Rammus is one of those junglers where the skin matters more than you’d think. His base model is dated. Like really dated. When you’re ganking bot lane at level 3 around the 3:30 mark, the Astronaut Q rolling in from river just looks more intimidating than default Rammus. Placebo? Sure. But I’ve had ADCs flash early when they see the space ball coming and I’ll take that every time.

The skin doesn’t change his jungle clear speed obviously but the VFX on camps feel satisfying. Last Tuesday I was grinding ranked around 1 AM and had back to back games where the enemy team banned Rammus after seeing the Astronaut skin in champ select. Might be overthinking it but the skin carries a certain energy.

One thing worth mentioning – there’s no voice filter on this one. Some Astronaut skins in the line got a radio crackle effect but Rammus keeps his base VO. Given that his entire vocabulary is like four words, I dont think anyone’s losing sleep over it.

Should you buy it?

Verdict time. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX upgrade over base Rammus is massive, the recall is fun, and the chromas give you options if the default white suit isn’t your style. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense.

If you’re a Rammus main or even someone who picks him as a counter-engage tank into heavy AD comps, this is the skin. Full stop. Hextech Rammus exists but costs way more in terms of crafting resources. Full Metal is decent but aged. Guardian of the Sands competes but the Astronaut VFX are cleaner. S-tier Rammus cosmetic. The only scenario where I’d say skip is if you literally never play jungle or if you’re saving for a Legendary on your actual main. Otherwise, lock it in.
