First time I saw Full Metal Rammus in a loading screen I thought someone modded a Transformer into the Rift. Not gonna lie, the splash alone sold me before I even locked in. Rammus already looks like a rolling tank but wrap him in chrome plating and angular steel armor? Different beast. Been running this skin on and off since maybe season 4, and it still holds up way better than a 2012 release has any right to.

Steel shell, new VFX, same ok button

So what actually changes here. The model is a full redesign: Rammus goes from organic armadillo to this sleek robotic mech unit. Think rounded steel plates, glowing blue accents on the shell, and a visor instead of eyes. The color palette shifts from earthy tones to gunmetal grey with cyan highlights. Clean look.

The VFX got touched up which is surprising for a 975 RP Standard tier skin from that era. His Powerball (Q) has this metallic sheen to it, rolling through lane with a slight trail effect. The W defensive curl looks more armored, the spikes feel industrial. Could be wrong here but I think the E taunt particles got a subtle update too, theres a faint blue pulse when it connects. Not Legendary-tier changes obviously but for the price point Riot put in real effort.

Voice stays default. No new lines, which is fine because Rammus literally says “ok” and “yeah” and thats the whole champion identity. (Random aside: I once counted how many times my jungler said “ok” in comms and Rammus mains really do internalize the character.) Base VO works perfectly with the mech aesthetic anyway.

Part of Heavy Metal, dropped back in 2012

Full Metal Rammus released August 16, 2012. Right in the middle of season 2 when the game looked completely different. Pan Chengwei handled the artwork and the splash captures this Iron Man meets armadillo energy that I think aged really well compared to other skins from that patch cycle.

The Heavy Metal skinline is one of those Riot themes that never fully took off. Full Metal Jayce and Full Metal Pantheon exist in the same line but they never expanded it the way they did with PROJECT or Mecha. Kinda feels like Riot tested the waters and moved on. Still, the skins that made it into Heavy Metal are solid. Rammus fits the theme naturally because his kit is literally about being an unstoppable ball of armor.

No chromas available for this one. Shop has it at 975 RP permanently so you can grab it whenever. For a Standard skin with actual VFX changes thats decent value. I remember picking it up during a sale maybe late 2019 for like 487 RP and at that price its a no-brainer for any Rammus player.

Should you pick up Full Metal Rammus?

Real verdict: if you play Rammus in the jungle at all this is one of the better options in his catalog. 975 RP feels fair for what you get. The mech fantasy reads clearly in game, the VFX additions are noticeable during teamfights, and the model holds up after all these years. Played maybe 80 games with this skin across two seasons and it never felt dated even against newer releases.

Best alternative is probably Guardian of the Sands if you want something flashier, or Astronaut Rammus if you prefer the goofy vibe. But Full Metal hits that sweet spot between cool and clean. Not trying to be over the top. Just a solid upgrade to the base Rammus experience that looks great rolling into the backline at Mach speed during a late-game engage.

Worth 975 RP if you main Rammus. Even if you only pull him out for specific comps in ranked, the skin makes those games feel better. Had it equipped last Thursday in a Diamond game where I ganked bot lane three times pre-6 and the steel Powerball rolling through river just looked right. S-tier Rammus cosmetic for the price.
