Jax ARAM Build and Guide
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability text is taken from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.
A Jax ARAM build is an on-hit bruiser path: Trinity Force first, then Sterak’s Gage, Wit’s End against magic damage, and Black Cleaver. He’s buffed on the Howling Abyss (105% damage dealt, 97% damage taken). Good news, since long brawls are where Relentless Assault stacks up.
We built the list from his patch 26.21 kit and the item texts; win rates weren’t consulted.

How is Jax buffed in ARAM?
| ARAM modifier | Jax |
|---|---|
| Damage dealt | 105% |
| Damage taken | 97% |
Riot nudges him up a little. He deals 105% of his normal damage and takes 97%, which sounds minor until you remember his damage grows with every consecutive auto in a fight that lasts. Why would Riot help a melee fighter here? Mostly because ARAM punishes champions who have to walk up to the enemy, and poke teams can chip a Jax down before he ever reaches a target (well, a random team comp can do that to any melee).
What does Jax’s kit do in a one-lane fight?
His abilities, per Riot’s patch 26.21 data:
- Relentless Assault (passive): consecutive basic attacks keep raising his Attack Speed.
- Leap Strike (Q): a leap toward a unit, ally or enemy; on an enemy it strikes. Cooldown 8/7.5/7/6.5/6.
- Empower (W): extra damage on his next attack. Cooldown 7/6/5/4/3.
- Counter Strike (E): dodges all incoming attacks for a short time, then counterattacks to stun every enemy around him. Cooldown 17/15/13/11/9.
- Grandmaster-at-Arms (R): each third consecutive attack adds magic damage, and the active hits enemies around him while raising his Armor and Magic Resist briefly. Cooldown 110/100/90.
Leap Strike is the underrated piece in ARAM. It can target allies, including minions, so Jax jumps forward onto his own wave to reach a backliner, or jumps back onto a teammate to escape when a fight goes wrong. Counter Strike is the other big one: in a lane where five enemies stand close together, the stun at the end can catch two or three of them. Thing is, marksmen and melee fighters hit him with attacks, which Counter Strike dodges, but mages don’t care.
What is the best Jax ARAM build?
On-hit damage and staying power. Four items, plus boots chosen by the enemy team.
Start with Trinity Force. Spellblade turns the attack after each ability into a bonus physical hit, and Jax casts a lot of abilities: Leap Strike, Empower, Counter Strike, all on short cooldowns at max rank. Chasing a marksman who keeps backing off? Quicken’s 20 Move Speed on attack, lasting 2 seconds, is how he keeps up. It also brings 333 Health.
Sterak’s Gage next. Lifeline grants a decaying Shield once a hit would take him below 30% Health, and the 20% Tenacity matters in a mode where the whole enemy team tends to throw crowd control at the champion who leapt in.
Third, Wit’s End. Random teams often end up with three or four mages, and this one is built for that: 45 Magic Resist, 50% Attack Speed for Relentless Assault and Fray’s on-hit magic damage. Black Cleaver finishes the set, since Carve shreds 6% Armor per physical hit, up to 5 stacks, and Jax lands physical hits constantly.
Boots? Plated Steelcaps when the enemy has several attackers, Mercury’s Treads against heavy crowd control. Funny enough, both pair well with Counter Strike’s anti-attack trick.
How should Jax play teamfights on the Howling Abyss?
- Use allies to get in. Leap Strike works on friendly minions and champions, not just enemies.
- Open with Counter Strike. Cast it before you land, then the stun goes off in the middle of their team.
- Pick a target that attacks. Counter Strike dodges attacks only, so marksmen are easier prey than mages.
- Keep auto attacking. Relentless Assault stacks with consecutive attacks; stopping resets the build-up.
- Grab health relics between waves. No recall exists to heal up.
Which summoner spells and fountain trips suit Jax?
There’s no recall. Jax shops at the fountain at the start and after each death, so plan every trip around finishing the next big item, ideally Trinity Force on the first visit back. Spellblade only arrives once the full item is done (to be fair, the components still give stats).
Summoners lock before loading, so pick with the team comp in mind. Mark is a strong fit: a snowball hit lets him dash to the target, and with Leap Strike that’s two gap closers for one fight. Flash is safer if your team lacks frontline. Put simply, Mark when you’re the only diver, Flash when you’re not.
Is Jax good in ARAM?
Yes. Two buffs (105% damage dealt, 97% damage taken), an AoE stun in a crowded lane and a leap that works off his own minions give him plenty to do. His problem is reaching the backline through poke, and mages that Counter Strike can’t dodge.
The Jax counters guide goes through the champions that beat him, and the Jax skins page lists every look he has.
In practice, the Jax ARAM build comes down to Trinity Force, Sterak’s Gage, Wit’s End and Black Cleaver on Steelcaps or Mercury’s: leap off allies, stun the middle of their team, and never stop auto attacking.
FAQ
Does Jax get buffs on the Howling Abyss?
Yes, slightly: 105% damage dealt and 97% damage taken, per patch 26.21 Wiki numbers.
Which item should Jax rush first?
Trinity Force. Its Spellblade adds a bonus hit after each of his abilities.
Can Jax Leap Strike to allies?
Yes. Leap Strike targets any unit; it only deals damage when the target is an enemy.
Does Counter Strike block mage abilities?
No. It dodges incoming attacks only, so ability damage still hits Jax.
How was this Jax ARAM build chosen?
From his patch 26.21 kit and item descriptions: frequent ability casts, on-hit stacking and a melee dive. No win-rate data was used.
