Cassiopeia ARAM Build and Guide

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.

A Cassiopeia ARAM build is about sustained Twin Fang spam: Archangel’s Staff for Mana, Rylai’s Crystal Scepter and Liandry’s Torment for slows and burn, then Cosmic Drive and Zhonya’s Hourglass. On the Howling Abyss her damage dealt stays at 100%, but she takes 110% damage.

Her patch 26.21 kit set the item order, nothing else. Win rates weren’t looked at.

How is Cassiopeia balanced in ARAM?

ARAM modifier Cassiopeia
Damage dealt 100%
Damage taken 110%

One nerf, on the defensive side. Her damage dealt is untouched at 100%, while damage taken climbs to 110%. For a mage with no dash who has to stand near her targets, that extra damage taken is a real cost. Why nerf her at all? Because a single lane full of clumped enemies is perfect for Noxious Blast and Miasma, and her damage never drops off as long as Twin Fang keeps landing. The build answers the nerf with Health and one stasis, because she can’t outrun anyone and has to outlast them instead.

How does Cassiopeia work on the Howling Abyss?

Riot’s patch 26.21 data on her abilities:

  • Serpentine Grace (passive): all Move Speed bonuses are more effective on her.
  • Noxious Blast (Q): poisons an area after a short delay; hitting an enemy champion gives her Move Speed. Cooldown 3.5.
  • Miasma (W): poison clouds that slow, ground and lightly damage enemies passing through. Cooldown 24/22/20/18/16.
  • Twin Fang (E): an attack that deals more damage to Poisoned targets and heals her; a kill refunds Mana. Cooldown 0.75.
  • Petrifying Gaze (R): stuns enemies facing her and slows those turned away. Cooldown 120/100/80.

Poison clouds and a narrow lane fit together. Noxious Blast lands on a group as often as on one target, Miasma covers most of the lane’s width, and every poisoned champion becomes a Twin Fang target that heals her. With five enemies close together, Petrifying Gaze usually catches several facing her at once, and the ones who turn away get slowed instead (that’s still a win). Serpentine Grace makes the Move Speed from Noxious Blast and from items worth more on her (honestly, more than most players notice). The weak spot hasn’t moved: no dash, and assassins on the Abyss know it.

What does a Cassiopeia ARAM build look like?

Mana first, then slows, burn, speed and safety. Five items.

Archangel’s Staff goes first. It brings 600 Mana and 25 Ability Haste, Awe converts 1% of her bonus Mana into Ability Power, and Manaflow adds max Mana each time her abilities land, doubled against champions. In practice, Twin Fang lands every 0.75 seconds in a fight. The staff transforms into Seraph’s Embrace at 360 max Mana gained, and with that rate she gets there fast.

Rylai’s Crystal Scepter second. Rimefrost slows enemies hit by damaging abilities by 30% for 1 second, and Twin Fang, Noxious Blast and Miasma all count, so whoever she’s poisoning stays slowed. The 400 Health helps offset the damage taken nerf.

Liandry’s Torment third. Torment burns ability targets for 2% of their max Health per second as magic damage over 3 seconds, and Suffering grows her damage in long fights with champions, up to 6%. Constant Twin Fang means the burn never drops off.

Cosmic Drive fourth. Spelldance grants Move Speed after she deals magic damage to champions, and Serpentine Grace makes that bonus more effective on her, so she can kite while spamming E. On paper it’s 350 Health and 25 Ability Haste, both useful to a serpent who can’t leave.

Zhonya’s Hourglass last, or earlier against two assassins. Time Stop puts her in stasis for 2.5 seconds, the only escape tool she’ll have all game.

How should she play team fights?

  • Poison first, then Twin Fang. It deals extra damage only to Poisoned targets.
  • Drop Miasma on divers. Grounded enemies can’t dash or blink onto you.
  • Aim Petrifying Gaze at the group facing you. Only enemies facing her are stunned.
  • Use Noxious Blast’s Move Speed to reposition. Serpentine Grace makes it more effective.
  • Stay behind your frontline. With 110% damage taken and no dash, you’re the easiest kill on your team.

How do shopping and Mark work for Cassiopeia?

Recall doesn’t exist in ARAM. Every purchase happens at the fountain, either at the start or after a death, and Archangel’s Staff is the priority because its Mana stacking is slow to start. Health relics are the only healing besides Twin Fang, and with the damage taken nerf she should grab one before a big fight (to be fair, Twin Fang heals her enough in long fights that she can leave one for the tank).

Real talk, the pair of summoner spells chosen in the lobby stays with her until the Nexus falls. Mark throws a snowball and lets her dash to the target, which on a champion with no dash is tempting, but it dashes her toward the enemy, not away. Look, Flash is the safe choice. Mark works only when your team has the frontline to follow her in.

Is Cassiopeia good in ARAM?

Yes. Damage dealt stays at 100% and her area poison suits one lane perfectly, so the 110% damage taken nerf mostly just means building some Health. Her weakness is the usual one. Divers who reach her before Miasma goes down win the fight.

Who does that best? See our Cassiopeia counters guide. Every item above has a full entry in the LoL item catalog, the guide to League positions explains the mage role, and her skins live on the Cassiopeia skins page.

Put simply, the Cassiopeia ARAM build is Archangel’s Staff, Rylai’s Crystal Scepter, Liandry’s Torment, Cosmic Drive and Zhonya’s Hourglass, and the job is poison the clump, spam Twin Fang, and save Miasma for whoever dives you.

FAQ

Is Cassiopeia nerfed in ARAM?

Only defensively. The patch 26.21 Wiki numbers give her 110% damage taken, while damage dealt is unchanged at 100%.

What is the best Cassiopeia ARAM build?

Archangel’s Staff, Rylai’s Crystal Scepter, Liandry’s Torment, Cosmic Drive and Zhonya’s Hourglass.

Why does Archangel’s Staff come first?

Twin Fang has a 0.75 second cooldown and costs Mana. Archangel’s Staff adds Mana, grows it with each ability that lands, and turns it into Ability Power.

Does Cosmic Drive work well with Serpentine Grace?

Yes. Serpentine Grace makes Move Speed bonuses more effective on her, and Spelldance grants Move Speed after she damages champions.

How was this Cassiopeia build chosen?

From her patch 26.21 kit and item text: a Mana-hungry spammable ability, slows that stick, and a damage taken nerf. No win-rate data was used.
