Amumu ARAM Build and Guide
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.
An Amumu ARAM build is a tank path with area damage: Sunfire Aegis next to Despair, Abyssal Mask to boost his team’s magic damage, then resistances. His only ARAM entry is 100% damage taken, which is no change, so he brings his full kit to a lane where his ultimate can catch the whole enemy team.
Despair and the Curse are magic-damage tools, and that fact from his patch 26.21 kit steered every item. We didn’t use win rates.

How is Amumu changed in ARAM?
| ARAM modifier | Amumu |
|---|---|
| Damage taken | 100% |
No change. The one line in the Wiki’s data, damage taken, sits at 100%, so Amumu plays with his Summoner’s Rift numbers. Riot left a champion with an area stun ultimate untouched in a mode that keeps everyone in one lane, which tells you something (mostly that his clear speed problems from the jungle don’t exist here, and nobody felt that needed fixing).
Why does Amumu fit the Howling Abyss?
His ultimate stuns everyone nearby, and ARAM keeps everyone nearby. Riot’s patch 26.21 data:
- Cursed Touch (passive): his attacks Curse enemies, adding bonus true damage whenever they take magic damage.
- Bandage Toss (Q): stuns and damages a target while pulling Amumu to them. Cooldown 3.
- Despair (W): nearby enemies lose a percentage of maximum Health each second and have their Curses refreshed. Cooldown 1.
- Tantrum (E): passively cuts the physical damage he takes; active, it damages enemies around him, with the cooldown shortened each time he’s hit. Cooldown 9/8/7/6/5.
- Curse of the Sad Mummy (R): bandages all nearby enemies, Cursing, damaging and stunning them. Cooldown 150/125/100.
Curse of the Sad Mummy is the reason. It stuns every nearby enemy at once, and on a single lane with walls on both sides, a well-timed Bandage Toss into the ultimate can catch four or five champions. Despair also gets better, since it burns a percentage of maximum Health from everyone close to him, and the Curse it refreshes makes his team’s magic damage deal extra true damage. Tantrum’s cooldown drops every time he’s hit, and in ARAM he gets hit constantly. Thing is, all of that depends on landing the bandage, and in a crowded lane minions and tanks often stand in the way.
What should an Amumu ARAM build focus on?
Health and Armor first, area damage next to Despair, and an item that amplifies his team’s magic damage. Four items and boots.
Sunfire Aegis starts it. Immolate deals magic damage every second to nearby enemies for 3 seconds after he takes or deals damage, which stacks with Despair’s Health burn, and both of those count as magic damage for Cursed Touch (magic damage on a Cursed target adds bonus true damage). The item also brings 350 Health and 50 Armor.
Abyssal Mask second. Unmake makes nearby enemy champions take 12% more magic damage, so Amumu’s own magic damage, his mages’ damage and the Curse’s true damage all add up faster. With 350 Health, 45 Magic Resist and 15 Ability Haste, it’s also a solid defensive piece.
Jak’Sho, The Protean third. Stay in a champion fight for 5 seconds and its passive pushes his bonus resistances up by 30% for the rest of it. An Amumu who opened with the ultimate is going to be in combat for more than 5 seconds.
The last slot matches the enemy. Thornmail adds 75 Armor and applies 40% Wounds to attackers, good against healing teams. Kaenic Rookern gives 80 Magic Resist and a magic shield against mage-heavy comps. Boots: Plated Steelcaps or Mercury’s Treads.
How do you play Amumu on the Howling Abyss?
- Throw Bandage Toss around the frontline. It stops on the first target, so aim through gaps toward the champion you want to engage.
- Pull in, then ult. Bandage Toss brings him to the target, and Curse of the Sad Mummy stuns everyone around his landing spot.
- Keep Despair on in fights. It burns maximum Health every second and refreshes Curses on everyone nearby.
- Spam Tantrum. Its cooldown drops every time he’s hit, and he’s always being hit in ARAM.
- Attack between spells. Cursed Touch comes from his attacks, and it makes your team’s magic damage stronger.
How do shopping and Mark work for Amumu?
Recall doesn’t exist here. Buying happens at the fountain at the start and after every death, and Sunfire Aegis components come first, since Immolate starts working with Despair right away. Grab a Health relic when the lane is quiet (nothing in his kit heals him).
Summoner spells can’t change after loading. Is the snowball worth it? A Mark hit gives a dash onto that champion, and that’s a lot of engage. On Amumu, that’s a second engage next to Bandage Toss, useful when the bandage keeps hitting minions. Is it better than Flash? Often, in ARAM, since Flash’s main job on Amumu is repositioning for the ultimate, and Mark gets him into the group too.
Is Amumu good in ARAM?
Yes. With 100% damage taken and no other modifier, he plays his normal kit, and Curse of the Sad Mummy is at its best when enemies have nowhere to spread. To be fair, he depends on landing Bandage Toss or Mark to start fights. Long story short, he’s a teamfight starter who wins games when the ultimate catches three or more.
On the Rift, five junglers give him a hard time, and the Amumu counters guide walks through each. The jungle role itself? See our guide to LoL roles. Numbers for each item above are kept current in the LoL items database, and the mummy’s costumes are collected on the Amumu skins page.
Put simply, the Amumu ARAM build is Sunfire Aegis, Abyssal Mask, Jak’Sho and Thornmail or Kaenic Rookern, and the plan is a bandage into a full-team ultimate.
FAQ
Is Amumu buffed in ARAM?
No. His single ARAM line is damage taken at 100% (Wiki data, patch 26.21), so he’s unchanged.
What items does the Amumu ARAM build use?
Sunfire Aegis, Abyssal Mask, Jak’Sho, The Protean, and Thornmail or Kaenic Rookern, with Plated Steelcaps or Mercury’s Treads.
Why build Abyssal Mask on Amumu?
Unmake makes nearby enemy champions take more magic damage, and Cursed Touch adds bonus true damage when Cursed targets take magic damage, so the two boost each other.
How many enemies can Amumu’s ultimate hit?
Curse of the Sad Mummy affects all surrounding enemy units, so it hits every enemy near Amumu. A narrow lane makes it easier to catch several champions.
How was this build chosen?
We followed his kit: an aura that burns, a Curse that rewards magic damage, and an ultimate that needs him alive in the middle. No win-rate data was used.
