Browser requirements
PC/Windows browsers:
- Chrome
- Firefox
- Microsoft Edge
Mac browsers:
- Chrome
- Firefox
- Safari
Browser requirements apply to the Roblox website (not the Roblox app). The Roblox app installs natively on Windows and Mac.
Chrome OS additional rule
For Chrome OS, two steps are required:
- Chrome OS version 53 or above.
- Google Play Store enabled on the device.
Roblox on Chromebook runs via the Android app from Google Play. Without Play Store enabled, Roblox doesn’t install. See /roblox-chromebook-troubleshooting/.
Video recording limitation
Roblox’s rule: “Roblox video recording feature only works on Windows 10, and Windows 11.”
This means:
- Mac users cannot use Roblox’s built-in video recorder.
- ChromeOS users cannot use it either.
- Third-party recording tools (OBS, QuickTime, etc.) still work on all platforms.
What’s not supported
- Linux: Roblox is not supported on Linux. Community workarounds via Wine exist but are not Roblox-endorsed.
- Windows 32-bit: Only 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 is supported.
- Pre-release OS versions: Blizzard note: “Newly released operating systems or pre-released versions of operating systems may not immediately be supported.”
Roblox Studio requirements
Roblox Studio (for creators) has separate requirements documented in Roblox’s Studio setup guide. Studio is typically more demanding than the player client because it includes development tools.
Mobile requirements
Mobile platforms (iOS, Android, Fire OS) have their own requirements:
- iOS 12 or higher typically.
- Android 6 or higher typically.
- Fire OS: Fire 7 (9th Gen+), Fire HD 8 (8th Gen+), Fire HD 10 (9th Gen+), Fire Max 11 (13th Gen+).
Exact requirements may change — check Roblox’s mobile requirements article for the current spec.
