Been maining Brand on and off since season 3 and Zombie Brand is still the skin I lock in every October without thinking twice. First time I saw this thing in a loading screen back in 2012 I thought Riot lost their minds putting this much effort into a holiday skin. Twelve years later and it still holds up better than half the Legendaries they ship now. Not even close.
What Zombie Brand actually does differently
This is a full Legendary with new voice lines, new VFX, new recall, the works. Brand shambles around the Rift like a zombie straight out of a B-movie and every animation sells the fantasy. His walk cycle alone is worth the price of admission. Arms out, dragging one leg, the whole thing. Banger concept executed properly.
The Q is a green fireball instead of the standard orange. Looks sickly. Feels gross in the best way. His W drops this decayed circle of zombie fire that reads completely different from base Brand, you actually notice the change in teamfights which matters more than people think. Could be wrong here but I think the W ground texture got slightly updated at some point because it looks cleaner than I remember from season 4.
E spread has this infected green glow when it bounces between targets. Played maybe 150 games with this skin and watching the E chain through a clumped bot lane never gets old. The passive burn indicator is green too so you can track your stacks visually without even looking at the debuff bar. Small thing but it matters when youre trying to proc the explosion in a 5v5.
His ult is where it gets ridiculous. The bouncing fireball becomes this green skull-looking projectile that just terrorizes backline carries. Last Tuesday I landed a 4-man ult bounce in a Diamond game and my ADC actually typed “that looked disgusting” in chat. He meant it as a compliment. I think.
The recall animation has Brand doing this whole rising-from-the-grave thing. Classic zombie movie reference. Simple change – huge impact on how the skin feels between fights. The voice lines are completely new too. Brand groans and moans like an actual undead creature, drops references to brains, the usual zombie humor but done with enough self-awareness that it doesnt feel cringe. Three things stood out when I first heard the VO: the death sound, the movement groans, and the attack grunts. All different from base, all fitting the theme perfectly.
The Zombies VS Slayers line and release context
Zombie Brand dropped October 26, 2012. Right before Halloween, obviously. Part of the Zombies VS Slayers skinline which is one of Riot’s older thematic sets. The line includes stuff like Zombie Slayer Jinx and Zombie Slayer Pantheon on the opposing side. Honestly not gonna lie, Brand got the better deal being on the zombie team. The slayer skins are fine but none of them hit as hard as this one.
No splash artist credited in the data for this one. Whoever did it captured the vibe though. Brand bursting through what looks like a grocery store floor, green flames everywhere, civilians running. It reads like a horror movie poster and (random aside: I had this as my desktop wallpaper for like two years in college).
Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever. Sits in the vault and comes out during Halloween events or special shop rotations. Hextech crafting is always an option if you get lucky. Seen maybe 5 of these in my ranked games all season which makes sense given the vault status. Makes it feel more special when you do run it.
There’s 1 chroma available. The Doom chroma shifts the color palette to red and purple which gives Zombie Brand this hellish corrupted look instead of the standard green zombie aesthetic. Kinda feels like a demon zombie crossover. Not bad if you want variety but the base green is iconic enough that I rarely switch off it.
Zombie Brand as a Legendary in 2012 vs now
Real talk though. 1820 RP for a skin from 2012 hits different than 1820 RP for something like Soul Fighter or Heartsteel. The production value gap between old Legendaries and new ones is real. Zombie Brand doesnt have the fancy homeguard animation or the evolving model that modern Legendaries get. What it does have is personality. Pure undiluted character in every animation and voice line.
The Zombies VS Slayers concept aged well because zombies never really go out of style. Season 9 I think, Riot brought it back for a Halloween event and it felt just as relevant. Brand mains specifically know this skin carries a certain weight in champ select. You lock in Zombie Brand and your lane opponent knows you’ve been at this for a while.
Worth 1820 RP if you main Brand. Full stop. The new VO alone justifies it over every Epic tier Brand skin. Spirit Fire Brand looks flashier, sure. Eternal Dragon Brand has the modern polish. But Zombie Brand has soul. Ironic for an undead skin. If you can snag it during a vault rotation or roll it from a chest, dont hesitate. Skip it only if you literally never play Brand in ranked or ARAM. For everyone else who touches this champion even occasionally in solo queue, this is the Brand skin. Been daily driving it since before masteries existed and I keep coming back every single time.
