Zombies VS Slayers is one of those skinlines that feels like Riot made it on a dare and then accidentally cooked. Five skins total, spanning from 2010 to 2015, and honestly the concept shouldn't work this well in League. You got undead champions shambling around the Rift on one side and zombie hunters geared up to put them down on the other. The whole thing plays like a B-movie horror flick you'd catch at 3 AM on a Tuesday, and I mean that as a compliment. Been a fan of this line since Zombie Brand dropped and changed what people expected from Legendary skins.

What Makes Zombies VS Slayers Stand Out
Not gonna lie, the visual identity here is strong for a line with only 5 skins. The zombie side goes full undead horror: rotting skin textures, green and purple particle effects, shambling animations that actually change how the champion feels to play. The slayer side flips that energy into a post-apocalyptic survivor aesthetic with leather, metal plating, and weapons that look like they were pulled from a hardware store during the end times.
What ties it together is the color palette. Sickly greens, deep purples, that gross yellowish glow you see on toxic waste in cartoons. Even the Slayer skins keep those tones in their VFX when they're fighting the undead. Riot committed to the theme hard.
Compared to something like Bewitching or Trick or Treat, Zombies VS Slayers goes way darker. Bewitching is cute Halloween, candy corn vibes. This line is actual horror. The splash arts lean into gore and destruction in a way most League skins dont. Kinda feels like the art team had more creative freedom back in 2010-2015 before everything got focus-grouped into safe territory.
The VFX work varies a lot depending on tier though. Zombie Ryze being a Standard skin means you're mostly getting a model swap and some texture changes. But jump up to Zombie Brand at Legendary tier and you're looking at completely reworked abilities, new VO, the whole package. That gap is noticeable when you line them all up. The Epics sit in a comfortable middle ground with solid particle work and recall animations that sell the fantasy.
(Random aside: the zombie walk animation on Brand is genuinely one of my favorite idle animations in the entire game. He just lurches around like he forgot where he parked his car.)
Best Zombies VS Slayers Skins
Zombie Brand. Full stop. This is the skin that carries the entire line on its rotting shoulders. Released back in 2012 as a Legendary at 1820 RP, and for the time it was absolutely top tier. New voice lines where Brand just groans and mumbles about brains between ability casts. The passive burn VFX turns into this sick green flame that looks completely different from base Brand. I've been running this in ranked for years and the W circle still catches people off guard because the color reads differently than normal Brand abilities. Could be wrong here but I think thats part of why it has a slightly higher winrate in my games - opponents just react slower to the green fire.
Zombie Nunu & Willump comes in second. Epic tier, and it transforms Willump into this massive undead yeti that looks genuinely terrifying. The snowball becomes this gross rolling mass of zombie parts. Played maybe 40 games with this one last season and the ult channel where Willump opens his mouth wide is peak horror comedy. The skin got updated when Nunu got reworked and honestly it translated really well to the new model.
Zombie Slayer Jinx is the best of the Slayer side. Epic tier, gives Jinx this whole survivor outfit with goggles and a modified minigun that looks jury-rigged for zombie hunting. Her rocket launcher gets zombie-themed rockets. The recall animation where she fights off zombies is clean. Not the flashiest Jinx skin out there but it has personality. Spammed this in Diamond during season 10 I think and it felt good in lane.
Zombie Slayer Pantheon is solid but basic. Standard tier at 975 RP so expectations should be managed. He gets the post-apocalyptic treatment with a modified shield and spear. Looks tough. Nothing groundbreaking for mains who have access to his newer skins but back in 2015 it was a respectable pickup.
Zombie Ryze sits at the bottom. First skin in the line from 2010 and it shows its age. Standard tier, simple zombie reskin. The model holds up okay but compared to what Ryze has gotten since then its hard to recommend unless you're collecting everything.
Champion Roster and Thematic Fit
Five champions. Small roster but honestly everyone fits. Brand as a zombie is genius casting because fire plus undead is such a classic horror combo. Imagine a burning zombie shambling toward you. Thats Brand. Perfect fit. Been maining Brand support on and off since season 8 and this skin just makes sense for the champion fantasy in a way his other skins sometimes miss.
Nunu & Willump work because Willump is already this big lumbering creature. Making him undead is a natural step. Jinx as a zombie slayer is obvious too - she's already chaotic and trigger-happy, give her zombies to shoot and she's in her element. Might be overthinking it but Jinx's whole personality is basically a zombie movie protagonist anyway. Loves destruction, doesnt take anything seriously, carries way too many weapons.
Pantheon fits the slayer role because he's a warrior archetype. Shield, spear, ready to fight. Simple. Effective. Ryze is maybe the weakest thematic fit. He's a mage carrying a scroll. Making him a zombie is fine but it doesn't click the same way Brand does. A zombie mage just doesn't hit as hard as a zombie that's literally on fire.
Real talk though, this line deserves more champions. Imagine a Zombie Thresh or a Zombie Slayer Vayne. ADC mains would lose their minds over a proper zombie hunter Vayne skin. Or Zombie Karthus - he's already halfway there with his base design. (Sidebar: I've been saying this since like season 6 and Riot keeps not doing it. Pain.) The line hasn't gotten a new skin since 2015 which is wild considering how popular the Halloween event window is every year.
Tier Breakdown and Pricing
Price range runs from 975 RP up to 1820 RP. Two Standards, two Epics, one Legendary. The Legendary is Zombie Brand and it absolutely carries the premium end. For 1820 RP you get new VO, new animations, completely reworked VFX on every ability. Worth it if you play Brand even casually.
The Epics at the middle are where most people will land. Zombie Nunu and Zombie Slayer Jinx both deliver solid value. New particles, unique recall animations, good model work. Standard Epic package but executed well. Fair price for what you get.
The two Standards feel dated. 975 RP for a model swap in 2024 doesn't hold up the same way it did in 2010 or 2015. Not bad skins but the value proposition is weaker when you compare them to modern 1350 RP Epics that come loaded with custom VFX and sound design. Zombie Ryze especially feels like a relic. Could be wrong here but I think most Ryze mains skip it entirely these days in favor of his newer options.
No Mythic or Ultimate tier skins in this line. The Legendary does the heavy lifting for prestige and the Epics hold down the mid-range. Honestly for a 5-skin line that's a decent spread. Not every skinline needs a Mythic to be worth caring about.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Zombies VS Slayers skins are there?
Five skins total. Three on the zombie side with Ryze, Nunu & Willump, and Brand. Two on the slayer side with Pantheon and Jinx. Small lineup but each one feels distinct. Been hoping Riot expands this for years but nothing since 2015. The line started in 2010 and wrapped up five years later.
What is the best Zombies VS Slayers skin?
Zombie Brand. Not even close. Legendary tier with full new VO, zombie walk animations, completely reworked green fire VFX on every ability. It set the standard for what a Legendary should feel like when it dropped. Spammed this in ranked for multiple seasons and it never gets old. Top tier Brand skin period.
Which champions have Zombies VS Slayers skins?
Ryze, Nunu & Willump, Brand, Pantheon, and Jinx. Brand, Ryze, and Nunu are on the zombie team. Pantheon and Jinx play the slayer role. Honestly all five fit the theme well though Brand and Jinx are the standout picks for mains who want something with real personality.
Does Zombies VS Slayers have Legendary skins?
One Legendary: Zombie Brand at 1820 RP. New voice lines, unique animations, the whole deal. For a skin from 2012 it holds up shockingly well. The zombie groaning VO alone makes it worth the price. Rest of the line is Epic and Standard tier but the Legendary pulls serious weight.
When did the Zombies VS Slayers skinline release?
Zombie Ryze kicked it off in 2010. Then Zombie Brand and Zombie Nunu came through around 2012. The slayer side with Pantheon and Jinx wrapped things up in 2015. Five year run total. Kinda wild that Riot hasn't touched it since then considering how popular zombie themes are every Halloween season.
Are Zombies VS Slayers skins worth buying?
Depends which one. Zombie Brand is absolutely worth 1820 RP if you play Brand at all. The Epics are solid pickups for Nunu and Jinx mains looking for something different. The Standards are harder to recommend in 2024 since newer skins for those champs offer way more for similar or slightly higher prices. Cherry pick the ones matching your champ pool.
Do Zombies VS Slayers skins have chromas?
Most of the older ones don't. The line predates Riot's big chroma push so what you see is what you get for the zombie side. Some of the skins may have picked up chromas over the years through events but the original releases were chroma-free. Not a dealbreaker honestly - the base color schemes already look good.
Will Riot make more Zombies VS Slayers skins?
No official word but I keep hoping. The line hasn't seen a new addition since 2015 which is a long drought. Riot tends to revisit popular themes during seasonal events and Halloween would be the obvious window. Maybe just my experience but I see way more demand for zombie skins in community polls than Riot seems to acknowledge. Fingers crossed.
