Not gonna lie, Tempest Janna caught me off guard the first time I saw it in champ select. Someone on my team locked in Janna with this skin around season 3 and I had to look it up because I didnt recognize it. The dark storm color palette just hits different from base Janna. Feels like Riot had a specific vision here even if the execution is bare bones by today’s standards.
What Tempest Janna actually looks like in game
This is a Standard tier skin at 520 RP, so temper your expectations. No new VFX. No new recall animation. Voice lines stay base. What you get is a full model swap and that’s it.
The outfit trades Janna’s default light blues for darker storm grays and purples. Her staff looks more weathered, more elemental. Kinda feels like she’s channeling raw storm energy instead of the gentle breeze fantasy. The color shift reads well on the Rift, especially during teamfights where the darker tones stand out against the green of Summoner’s Rift.
Been running this in Diamond games occasionally when I want something different from Star Guardian or Sacred Sword. The model is clean for how old it is. Released July 13, 2010 – we’re talking early League here, pre-season 1 territory. Back when Janna players were just learning that her Q could be charged and her ult was basically a “get off my ADC” button. Some things never change honestly.
(Random aside: there’s something charming about using a 2010 skin in a 2026 ranked game. The flex is subtle but real.)
The Legacy line and where this skin sits
Tempest Janna is part of the Legacy catalog. Sits in the vault. You cant just walk into the shop and buy it whenever you want. Riot rotates Legacy skins back during special events, or you can get lucky through Hextech crafting. Seen maybe two of these in my games all of last season, and one was me.
No chromas available for this one. At 520 RP it makes sense. Riot wasn’t doing chromas for skins at this price point back then, and they never went back to add any.
The Legacy skinline is interesting because it’s not really a thematic line. More of a catch-all for older skins Riot pulled from the permanent shop. Tempest Janna landed here alongside stuff like Hextech Janna and a bunch of other early skins. Could be wrong here but I think they vaulted most of these around 2013 or 2014.
No splash artist credited in the data for this one, which tracks for skins from this era. Early Riot art was often done in-house without individual credits. The splash itself is simple. Janna floating in a storm, dark clouds behind her, staff crackling. Gets the job done.
Should you chase Tempest Janna?
Real verdict: this is a collector’s skin. Pure and simple. If you’re a Janna one-trick who wants every skin in the collection, you hunt for this during Legacy vault openings or pray to the Hextech gods. 520 RP is cheap when it shows up.
For the average Janna player climbing through ranked, there’s better options. Sacred Sword has new VFX. Star Guardian Janna has the full package. Crystal Rose is gorgeous. Tempest is for the people who appreciate old League, who remember when peel meant something different and your support items gave you like 2 gold per 10 seconds.
Played a game last Thursday where my duo asked why I was using “that weird gray Janna skin” and I had to explain Legacy vault skins to him. Worth it for the conversation alone. Maybe just my experience but the older skins get more comments in lobby than the flashy new ones.
Skip this unless you already main Janna and want the full set. But if you do main her, and you see it pop up in Your Shop or a Legacy event – lock it in. 520 RP is nothing for a piece of League history. The skin does what it promises: a stormier Janna with zero bells and whistles. Respect.
