Primal Ambush Vi

First game I loaded this up was around 3 AM on a Tuesday, couldn’t sleep, queued ranked and just wanted to punch things. Primal Ambush Vi hit different than I expected. The jungle predator aesthetic works on Vi in a way that feels natural, like she was always supposed to have claws made from bone and sinew instead of hextech gauntlets. Not gonna lie, I wasnt sold from the splash alone but the in-game model changed my mind fast.

What Primal Ambush actually does to Vi’s kit

The VFX overhaul carries this skin. Her Q charges up with this feral energy trail, orange and amber particles that leave scratch marks on the ground as she dashes. Looks clean when you’re ganking through river. The E proc has a satisfying claw swipe effect that reads way better in teamfights than base Vi, where sometimes the cone just gets lost in the chaos.

W passive stacks show with these primal markings on the target. Subtle but a nice touch. Her ult is the real showcase though. Vi lunges with full predator energy, the impact VFX has this burst of amber light and bone fragments. Been running this in Diamond jungle for maybe 40 games now and every time I lock in the R on their backline ADC it just feels right.

(Random aside: the recall animation where she sharpens her gauntlets on a rock is my favorite part of the whole skin.)

Voice lines stay base, no new VO. Standard for a 1350 RP Epic. The base voice still works fine here honestly, Vi’s personality doesnt need adjusting for the theme. Kinda feels like Riot knew the visual package was strong enough to not need voice filter support.

The Primal Ambush line and where Vi fits

Primal Ambush dropped January 24, 2024. Late season 14 start. Nathaniel Himawan and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured something raw with the splash. Vi crouching mid-hunt, gauntlets dripping with that feral energy. The Primal Ambush skinline leans into this prehistoric predator fantasy and Vi slots into it better than most champions would.

8 chromas total. Obsidian is the standout for me, goes full dark predator and the contrast against Summoner’s Rift pops hard. Amethyst hits a mystic hunter vibe that I think reads cleaner than base in lane. Pearl exists if you want the bleached bone look but might be overthinking it, I think it washes out the detail on the gauntlets.

Shop has it. 1350 RP, permanent availability. The Primal Ambush set came in with Talon and Riven in the same patch, and I’d argue Vi got the best execution of the three. Could be wrong here but the bulky gauntlet design gives artists more surface area to work with compared to blades.

Should you pick up Primal Ambush Vi?

Real verdict: this sits comfortably in Vi’s top three skins. Project Vi has the tech fantasy covered, Heartbreaker has the meme factor, but Primal Ambush Vi fills the aggressive jungle predator niche that no other Vi skin touches. Been maining Vi with this since it dropped and I keep coming back to it over the alternatives.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the full kit, solid recall, strong model. If you’re a Vi one-trick or even just someone who pulls her out for jungle clear in specific comps, this is worth the pickup. Seen maybe 5 of these in my games all season which is surprising given how clean it is. Skip it only if you already own Project and dont play Vi enough to justify two skins. For mains though, easy buy. The Obsidian chroma specifically elevates it from good to S-tier territory, that ranked game where my Kayn inted and I had to 1v9 on this skin sold me permanently.
