First game I played with Ocean Song Nidalee I landed a max-range spear on their Ezreal and the water trail VFX made it look like a dolphin missile. Sold immediately. Been running this as my default Nidalee skin since it dropped in June 2022 and I dont see myself switching any time soon. The summer music festival vibe hits different on a champion who normally lives in the jungle throwing primitive spears.
How Ocean Song changes Nidalee’s kit
The biggest shift is the color palette. Gone is the tribal hunter aesthetic. Ocean Song Nidalee walks onto the Rift looking like she’s headlining a beach music festival, bikini top, tropical accessories, the works. Her cougar form gets the same treatment with aqua-toned fur and glowing accents that read cleanly against every map surface.
New VFX across the board. Her Q spear in human form leaves this trailing water splash effect that honestly makes it easier to track in teamfights. Could be wrong here but I think the hitbox visual actually matches better than base Nidalee’s spear, which has always felt deceptive. Cougar Q has a satisfying burst of water particles on the pounce reset. W traps in human form glow with this subtle teal shimmer that blends into river brushes nicely. Not great for your enemies trying to spot them pre-6.
The recall is where Riot put the most personality. She pulls out a surfboard, rides a wave, cougar form jumps through a water ring. Playful stuff. Voice lines stay base, no new VO, which is standard for a 1350 RP Epic skin. Roxana Ortega’s original performance still carries fine here.
Played maybe 40 games with this in Diamond last season and one thing I noticed: the cougar E pounce particles have enough visual weight that your team actually reacts to your engages faster. Small detail. Huge impact in coordinated ganking scenarios where your laners need that split-second read on your gap close.
The Ocean Song line and release context
Ocean Song dropped June 9, 2022. Mid-season 12. Jeremy ‘Jermu’ Anninos nailed the splash, capturing this sunset pool party energy with Nidalee posed confidently front and center. The Ocean Song skinline was Riot’s summer music event that year, kind of their answer to the pool party line but with a concert twist.
Nidalee fits the theme naturally. She’s already athletic, already has the wild confident energy that a festival headliner needs. Compare that to some of the other Ocean Song releases where champions felt shoehorned into the concept. (Random aside: the Ocean Song Seraphine splash lives rent free in my head but thats a different conversation.)
8 chromas total for this one. Sapphire is my go-to because the deep blue reads like an actual ocean skin rather than a festival outfit. Obsidian goes full dark mode which pairs well if you’re the type who runs dark themed everything. Pearl has this clean white and gold look that honestly might be the most premium-feeling option of the set. Shop has it permanently at 1350 RP so no vault anxiety.
Worth the 1350 RP?
Real verdict: Ocean Song Nidalee sits comfortably in the upper half of her skin catalog. Not gonna lie, Nidalee has some stacked competition. Headhunter is the tryhard classic. Dawnbringer goes harder on the VFX. Cosmic Huntress exists. But Ocean Song fills a niche none of those touch, the fun casual skin you lock in when you want ranked to feel less sweaty.
The VFX quality is solid for an Epic tier skin. New particles on every ability, clean recall animation, cohesive theme. You’re not getting voice filter or new voice lines at this price point but Riot delivered on the visual package. Maybe just my experience but the spear feels smoother to throw with this skin. Placebo? Probably. Still counts.
Been maining Nidalee with this in my rotation alongside Headhunter for about two seasons now. Last Thursday I had a game where I went 11/2 in jungle and three people in post-game chat asked about the skin. That never happens with base Nidalee. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. If you’re a Nidalee one-trick this belongs in your collection. If you only play her occasionally, Headhunter might be the better value, but Ocean Song is the skin you pick when you want to have fun on the Rift. Top pick for Nidalee mains who want something lighter than the edgy hunter skins.
