Lunar Beast Darius

First time I saw Lunar Beast Darius load in, season 11 ranked lobby around midnight, I thought Riot finally gave Darius something that wasnt just “angry guy with axe but different color.” The Lunar Beast line hit different for him. Big ox-themed armor, glowing horns, the whole Lunar New Year energy cranked up. Locked it in immediately.

What Lunar Beast Darius actually brings to the table

This is a 1350 RP Epic skin so you get new VFX across the board plus a fresh recall animation. No new voice lines though. Voice stays default. Chuck Kourouklis still doing his thing underneath all that ox armor, which honestly works fine because Darius’s base VO already carries enough aggression for any skinline.

The Q spin has this red and gold particle burst that reads really clean in teamfights. Not gonna lie, the contrast against Summoner’s Rift green makes it easier to track the blade edge hitbox compared to some of his other skins. W slam gets a satisfying golden impact effect. E pull keeps the ox horn motif going with curved energy lines. And the ult? Big red guillotine slam with Lunar Beast energy radiating out. Looks good on a five-stack dunk.

Recall animation is where Darius channels some kind of ox spirit transformation. Pretty standard Lunar Beast treatment but it fits. (Random aside: my duo partner thought the recall ox was a bull and we argued about it for like three games straight.) The model itself goes heavy on crimson and gold plating with horn accents on the shoulders. Axe redesign looks solid, more ceremonial than his usual executioner vibe.

One thing I noticed after maybe 40 games in Diamond with this skin – the auto attack animations feel the same as base. Some Darius mains swear certain skins have smoother autos for cs’ing but I think thats placebo. Might be overthinking it but the axe swing arc looks identical frame by frame.

The Lunar Beast line and release context

Lunar Beast dropped February 4, 2021. Early season 11. Forrest Imel and West Studio handled the splash, and they nailed the composition. Darius front and center looking like he’s about to cleave through a Lunar celebration. The red and gold palette across the whole piece sells the Year of the Ox theme hard.

The Lunar Beast skinline was Riot’s 2021 Lunar New Year push. Darius shared the line with Fiora, Jarvan IV, Aphelios, Viego, and a few others. Kinda feels like Darius was the poster boy for the set. He fits the “powerful beast warrior” angle better than most of the roster. Lunar Beast as a concept works for juggernauts specifically because the bulky armor aesthetic matches their in-game presence. A Lunar Beast Yuumi would be weird. A Lunar Beast Darius just clicks.

7 chromas available if you can find them. Legacy vault skin so you cant just grab it whenever. Tanzanite is the standout for me, deep purple transforms the whole ox theme into something more regal. Obsidian goes full dark mode which pairs well if you’re running the edgy Darius fantasy in top lane. The Vitality chroma has this neon green and red split that’s loud but I’ve seen maybe two people actually use it in my games all season.

Should you buy Lunar Beast Darius?

Real verdict: this sits comfortably in Darius’s top three skins. 1350 RP is standard pricing and the VFX package earns it. You get enough visual changes to feel fresh without losing the Darius identity. Been running this in ranked when I want something cleaner than Dunkmaster but more interesting than base.

The competition is stiff though. God King Darius exists at Legendary tier. High Noon Darius goes hard. Spirit Blossom Darius is genuinely beautiful. But for an Epic skin in the Legacy pool? Lunar Beast holds its own. If you main Darius and the vault rotation comes around, worth picking up. Fair warning – since it’s Legacy catalog you might need to wait for a Lunar event or get lucky with Hextech crafting. Last time I checked around patch 13.1 or so it popped up during a Lunar Revel event sale.

For Darius one-tricks who already own God King, this is the best secondary option at the Epic tier. Simple change – huge impact on how your lane opponent perceives the threat walking at them with Ghost and five stacks. Top pick for Darius mains who want variety without dropping 1820 RP every time.
