Lunar Beast Skins

All 8 skins in the Lunar Beast skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Lunar Beast skin in League of Legends.

Lunar Beast is one of those skinlines where Riot tried to do something fresh with the Lunar New Year event and honestly it kinda worked. The mech-ox aesthetic is wild, mixing futuristic tech frames with traditional Lunar Revel red and gold. Not sure if it's just me but the whole line feels like Pacific Rim crashed into a Chinese New Year parade, and I mean that as a compliment. Been seeing these skins pop up in my Diamond games since early 2021 and some of them still hold up. Eight skins total across seven champions, all dropped in the same patch window. Solid lineup even if a couple picks feel forced.

What Makes Lunar Beast Stand Out

The visual identity here is tight. Every skin in the Lunar Beast line shares this biomechanical frame that transforms champions into mech-beast hybrids. Think metallic plating with exposed energy cores, all wrapped in Lunar Revel reds, golds, and deep navy blues. The shared VFX language uses these glowing particle effects that pulse with warm energy. Ability animations across the line have this consistent tech-meets-tradition feel where spell effects look like they're powered by some ancient zodiac reactor.

Compared to the older Lunar Revel and Warring Kingdoms lines, Lunar Beast went full sci-fi. Warring Kingdoms gave you Dynasty Warriors cosplay. Lunar Revel Firecracker was all about the festival vibes. Lunar Beast said nah, what if the zodiac animals were giant mechs. Real talk though, I think this direction was the right call for 2021. The market was saturated with traditional Asian fantasy skins and the mech angle gave it something to actually stand on.

Splash arts across the line share a consistent composition style. Dark backgrounds with explosive warm lighting cutting through. The splashes feel like movie posters for a mecha anime, which tracks. (Random aside: I had the Darius splash as my desktop background for like three months straight.) Color palette stays cohesive too. You wont find any skin in this line breaking from that red-gold-navy scheme, which is rare for Riot. Some skinlines have entries that look like they belong in a completely different universe.

The recall animations are where the shared identity really comes through. Every champion in the line has this mech-suit assembly sequence during recall. Parts fly in, lock into place, the frame powers up. Clean. Looks good in game and gives the whole roster a squad feeling when you run multiple Lunar Beast skins in the same comp.

Best Lunar Beast Skins

Prestige Lunar Beast Fiora sits at the top. No contest. The white and gold Mythic variant takes the base Fiora skin and elevates everything. VFX are cleaner, the sword design is sharper, and the splash art is legitimately one of the better Prestige pieces Riot has produced. Been running this in ranked when I play Fiora and the Q lunge particles alone make it worth the grind. Could be wrong here but I think this is a top 3 Prestige skin overall from 2021.

Lunar Beast Jarvan IV is my second pick. J4 fits the mech-warrior fantasy naturally. Dude already looks like he's wearing power armor in half his skins. The Lunar Beast version leans into that with a massive ox-themed lance and a Cataclysm that drops this glowing mech cage. Locked this in for maybe 40 games one weekend and the ult visual never got old. The engage feels heavier with this skin on, even if thats obviously just placebo.

Lunar Beast Alistar deserves the third spot. The bull champion getting an ox mech skin? Thematic perfection. His Headbutt-Pulverize combo has these satisfying impact particles and the model itself is chunky in all the right ways. Played this into a Leona lane last Tuesday and the peel felt cleaner than it had any right to.

Lunar Beast Annie is a sleeper pick that people overlook. The Tibbers mech transformation is genuinely cool. Giant robot bear drops in and starts swinging. For 1350 RP its a strong contender against her massive skin catalog. Might be overthinking it but I think the reason people sleep on this one is just because Annie has so many options already.

Lunar Beast Darius rounds out my top five. The dunk animation with the mech-axe is satisfying. Not the best Darius skin ever made but it holds its own in a crowded field. The passive bleed VFX got a nice red energy treatment that reads well in teamfights.

Champion Roster and Thematic Fit

Seven champions got the Lunar Beast treatment: Annie, Alistar, Jarvan IV, Fiora, Darius, Viego, and Aphelios. Some fit better than others.

Alistar and Jarvan are natural picks. Bull champion for Year of the Ox. Warrior king in mech armor. These make sense instantly and the execution matches. Fiora works well too since the fencing-duelist-in-a-mech-suit angle gives her this gundam pilot energy. Kinda feels like she was designed for this line.

Darius is solid if not spectacular. Big dude, big axe, big mech frame. Simple formula that works. Annie is the cutest entry in the line and Tibbers as a mech bear sells the whole skin by itself. (Sidebar for Annie mains specifically: this one has some of the cleanest Tibbers particles she's gotten outside of Legendaries.)

Viego and Aphelios feel like the weaker thematic fits. Viego had just released when these dropped in season 11, so his inclusion felt more like a marketing push than a natural choice. The ruined king in a mech suit doesn't quite land the same way. Aphelios is fine but the mech aesthetic doesn't complement his moon-hunter fantasy as well as other skinlines have. Not bad skins mechanically, just not the best thematic marriages in the roster.

Who should Riot add if they ever revisit? Wukong is the obvious missing piece. Monkey King in a zodiac mech line and he wasnt included? Criminal. Xin Zhao would fit perfectly. Lee Sin too. Basically any champion with martial arts or East Asian design roots would slot in clean.

Tier Breakdown and Value

Here's the thing about Lunar Beast: it's almost entirely Epic tier. Seven of the eight skins sit at 1350 RP. The only outlier is Prestige Lunar Beast Fiora at Mythic tier, which you can't buy directly anyway. No Legendaries in the line. No Ultimates. Just a wall of Epics and one Prestige.

Not gonna lie, this is both a strength and a weakness. Strength because every skin in the line delivers the same level of quality. New model, new VFX, new recall, new SFX. Standard Epic package and Riot's 1350 RP skins in 2021 were hitting pretty consistently. You know exactly what you're getting. Weakness because there's no standout Legendary to anchor the line. No new voice lines anywhere in the roster. No unique interactions. Voice lines stay base for every single entry.

For 1350 RP each, these are fair. Not overpriced, not bargain either. Standard pricing for above-average skins. If you main any of these champions and the aesthetic clicks with you, the value is there. The Prestige Fiora is obviously the crown jewel but that required either the 2021 event grind or rerolling later. Been seeing it drop from Hextech more often recently in season 14 though, so maybe just my experience but it feels less rare than it used to.

The whole line dropped in one patch during the 2021 Lunar New Year event. Riot hasn't revisited it since. Three years and counting with no new additions. Compare that to something like Spirit Blossom which got a massive second wave. Lunar Beast might just be a one-and-done, which is a shame because the mech-zodiac concept had room to grow. Could be coping but I still think there's a chance they bring it back for another Year of the Ox cycle.

Lunar Beast FAQ

How many Lunar Beast skins are there?

Eight skins total in the Lunar Beast line. Seven Epic tier skins across Annie, Alistar, Jarvan IV, Fiora, Darius, Viego, and Aphelios, plus one Mythic Prestige variant for Fiora. All dropped in early 2021 during the Lunar New Year event. Riot hasnt added to the line since, so eight is where it stands heading into 2026.

What is the best Lunar Beast skin?

Prestige Lunar Beast Fiora if you can get it. The white and gold Mythic version is clean and stands out from the rest of the line. For skins you can actually buy, Lunar Beast Jarvan IV and Lunar Beast Alistar are the strongest picks. J4's Cataclysm looks insane with the mech VFX and Alistar's ox theme fits perfectly.

Which champions have Lunar Beast skins?

Seven champions: Annie, Alistar, Jarvan IV, Fiora (plus her Prestige edition), Darius, Viego, and Aphelios. Decent mix of roles honestly. You got tanks, bruisers, an ADC, and a mage. Enough to run a full Lunar Beast comp in ranked if your team cooperates, which in my experience they never do.

Does Lunar Beast have Legendary skins?

No Legendaries in the Lunar Beast line. Every skin is Epic at 1350 RP except Prestige Fiora which is Mythic tier. That means no new voice lines for any champion in the set. Solid VFX and model work across the board but if you want new VO you'll need to look at a different skinline for these champs.

When did the Lunar Beast skinline release?

Lunar Beast dropped in February 2021 for the Lunar New Year event, season 11. The whole batch launched together in one patch. Riot went with a mech-zodiac theme for Year of the Ox. Been over five years now with no new additions so the line might be a one-time thing, but who knows what Riot's planning.

Are Lunar Beast skins worth buying?

At 1350 RP each, yeah they deliver. New models, VFX, SFX, and recall animations. Standard Epic package but the execution is above average for 2021. If you main Jarvan, Alistar, or Fiora, the Lunar Beast versions are genuinely strong options. For Viego and Aphelios mains there might be better picks in their skin catalogs though.

Do Lunar Beast skins have chromas?

Most of the Lunar Beast Epics got chroma sets when they launched. The chroma options let you break from the signature red-gold scheme if thats not your thing. Obsidian variants tend to look solid across the line if you want a darker take. Prestige Fiora obviously doesn't have chromas since Prestige skins are their own color variant already.

Will Riot make more Lunar Beast skins?

Nothing confirmed as of early 2026. The line hasn't gotten new skins since its 2021 launch. Riot has shifted Lunar New Year events to other themes like Mythmaker and Heavenscale in recent years. Could come back for another ox year in the zodiac cycle but I wouldn't hold your breath. The concept has legs if they ever revisit it though.
