First time I saw Battlecast Zac load in, I thought someone modded the game. Zac going from a green blob to a full-on Viktor-designed war machine is one of those concepts that shouldnt work but absolutely does. Been running this skin since it dropped in November 2020 and it still catches people off guard in loading screen. The Battlecast line turns champions into mechanical nightmares, and Zac fits that energy perfectly because his whole identity is stretching and reshaping. Now imagine that but with hydraulic pistons and molten metal. Yeah.
What Battlecast Zac actually changes
The model is a complete overhaul. Zac goes from translucent green goo to a dark metallic frame with glowing red internals. Think Terminator meets industrial factory. His body segments look like armored plates held together by cables and energy, and when he stretches for E or Q the whole thing pulls apart in a way that reads mechanically instead of organically. Massive visual shift.
VFX got the full Epic treatment. His Q leaves these red energy trails, W pulses out mechanical shrapnel instead of green splatter, and the E launch has this jet-thruster effect that I think looks cleaner than base in teamfights. Could be wrong here but the red particles against Summoner’s Rift green actually make his abilities easier to track, especially in chaotic late-game fights around dragon pit. Last Thursday I had a game where the enemy ADC literally flashed my E because the red trail was so visible. Kinda a double-edged sword.
The recall animation is where Riot had fun. He transforms into this compact mech form, almost like he’s folding into a deployment pod. Standard voice lines, no new VO, but the sound design on the abilities carries weight. Every W proc sounds like a piston firing. Every landing from E has that heavy metallic crunch.
(Random aside: the passive blobs being little mechanical pieces instead of green goo chunks is such a small detail but it sells the fantasy completely.)
The Battlecast line and where this fits
Battlecast Zac released November 12, 2020. Late season 10 if I remember right. The Battlecast skinline is one of Riot’s older thematic lines, goes back to Battlecast Urgot and Cho’Gath. Viktor’s machine evolution army. Zac joining the roster made sense thematically but took years to happen.
No splash artist credited in the data for this one, which is rare. The splash itself is solid though. Zac mid-leap over what looks like a destroyed city, mechanical body stretching across the frame. It reads well as a thumbnail and the red-on-dark palette pops.
6 chromas total. Tanzanite is my personal pick, the deep purple energy replacing the red gives it a void-corrupted feel that hits different in lane. Obsidian goes full dark mode, almost impossible to see the internal glow on certain map skins. Pearl flips the whole thing bright and honestly looks like a completely separate skin. Not gonna lie, I’ve seen maybe two other Battlecast Zac players in my Diamond games all season and neither was running chromas, which is wild because Tanzanite alone is worth it.
Is Battlecast Zac worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: this is a strong Epic. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New model, new VFX, new recall, solid chromas. Voice pack is base only, which is the one thing keeping it from being exceptional, but Zac’s base voice lines are charming enough that it doesnt hurt much.
The competition in Zac’s skin pool is thin. Pool Party is fun but goofy, SKT is a legacy collector piece, and Empyrean went a different direction entirely. Battlecast Zac is the serious skin. The one you lock in when you want your jungle clear to feel heavy. Spammed this in Diamond for about 23 games one weekend back in season 11 and the VFX clarity genuinely helped me track blob pickups in fights.
Shop has it permanently. If you main Zac or even have him in your jungle rotation for comp flexibility, this is the skin. Top pick for Zac mains, especially with the Tanzanite chroma. Might be overthinking it but I think this is also the best looking Zac skin in spectator mode for pro play, not that we see much Zac in competitive these days. Fair price for the package, grab it on sale if you’re not convinced but I think most Zac players end up here eventually.
