Battle Professor Graves

First time I saw Battle Professor Graves load in, I thought someone was trolling me in champ select. Graves in a suit jacket with a pointer stick? Holding what looks like a modified shotgun disguised as academic equipment? Took me about three games to realize this skin actually goes hard. Been running this in Diamond for a solid stretch and the skin just feels clean in a way I wasnt expecting from a joke-adjacent concept.

The classroom gets violent

So the Battle Academia line dropped May 15, 2019 and Graves got the professor role. Makes sense honestly. Grizzled guy, short temper, zero patience for students. The outfit is a fitted dark coat with gold trim, armored shoulder pieces, and this energy-infused weapon that reads like a sci-fi lecture prop. Think anime academy headmaster who also happens to blow stuff up.

New VFX across the board. Q sends out these sharp blue-white energy blasts that feel tighter than base Graves particles. The auto attacks have a cleaner muzzle flash with that academic blue glow. Smoke screen on W keeps the dark cloud but the edges shimmer with that Battle Academia energy signature. Not sure if it’s just me but the autos feel snappier with this skin. Could be placebo. Probably is.

R is where it pops off. The Collateral Damage shell has this concentrated energy trail, bright and readable, and the explosion on impact scatters in a way that looks premium for an Epic tier skin. Played maybe 40 games last month in bot lane specifically and every single ult felt satisfying to land. The recall animation has Graves slamming his weapon down like a teacher demanding attention, very on brand.

No new VO. Base voice lines, which honestly works fine because Kyle Hebert’s Graves voice already carries the gruff authority a professor needs. Voice pack is base only but I dont think this skin needed new lines to sell the fantasy.

Kelly Aleshire and the Battle Academia set

Kelly Aleshire nailed the splash. Graves standing in what looks like a destroyed classroom, smoke everywhere, weapon primed. The lighting hits the gold accents perfectly. One of those splashes where you zoom in and keep finding details.

Battle Academia as a skinline is one of Riot’s better theme executions. The whole anime school aesthetic translates surprisingly well to League champions. Graves fits the professor archetype naturally. Season 9 release, back when Riot was really pushing thematic skinlines hard.

8 chromas total. Obsidian is my personal pick, turns the whole outfit dark with red accents and makes Graves look like the villain professor from every anime ever. Formal is the sleeper hit though, black and white color scheme that reads like actual formal wear. (Random aside: Formal chroma Graves is my ARAM lock-in wallpaper at this point.) Pearl exists if you want the clean white aesthetic but I think it washes out some of the detail work on the coat.

1350 RP puts this at standard Epic pricing. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense.

Where this sits in the Graves skin lineup

Real talk though. Graves has a stacked skin catalog. Pool Party is the fun pick, Victorious if you earned it, Praetorian for the sci-fi crowd. Battle Professor occupies this weird middle ground where it’s comedic in concept but premium in execution.

The skin works best if you already play Graves jungle or ADC regularly. Kinda feels like a skin that grows on you. First game you notice the suit. By game twenty you’re appreciating how the Q particles read in teamfights, how the smoke screen VFX dont clutter your screen, how the recall animation has genuine personality.

Had this ranked game around 2 AM last Tuesday where I was clearing raptors and my support typed “professor diff” in chat. Thats the energy this skin brings. Its not trying to be the flashiest thing on the Rift. It’s a well-made Epic that knows exactly what it wants to be.

Should you buy it?

Verdict time. Battle Professor Graves at 1350 RP is a solid pickup for Graves mains who want something outside the gritty cowboy or military aesthetic. The VFX are clean, the recall has character, and there’s enough chroma variety to keep it fresh across seasons. Obsidian or Formal chromas push it into genuinely great territory.

Skip this if you only play Graves occasionally. But if you’re grinding ranked with the man, spamming jungle clears and looking for a skin that reads well in late-game teamfights without being visually noisy? 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. Not the best Graves skin full stop, but comfortably top three depending on your taste. Could be wrong here but I think this one ages better than most Epic skins from 2019.
