Karma ARAM Build and Guide

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability descriptions follow Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.

A Karma ARAM build is a poke mage build: Malignance first for more Mantras, then Blackfire Torch, Shadowflame and Void Staff on Sorcerer’s Shoes. Her only ARAM change is 98% damage dealt, a small nerf, while damage taken stays at 100%. A narrow lane full of targets is still great for Mantra Inner Flame.

Every Karma ARAM pick here comes from her patch 26.21 kit and what each item actually says it does, with win rates left out.

Is Karma nerfed in ARAM?

ARAM modifier Karma
Damage dealt 98%
Damage taken 100%

Only by a hair. She deals 98% of her usual damage, and damage taken is untouched at 100%. A two-point trim is about as light as an ARAM nerf gets. The reason isn’t hard to guess: a champion with her ultimate from level 1, spamming empowered Inner Flames into a lane where five enemies can’t spread out, is going to land a lot of damage (for what it’s worth, the shields and Move Speed she hands out aren’t touched at all).

How does Karma’s Mantra work on the Howling Abyss?

From Riot’s patch 26.21 data:

  • Gathering Fire (passive): each damaging ability she lands lowers Mantra’s cooldown.
  • Inner Flame (Q): explodes on the first enemy it hits; with Mantra, a delayed second blast follows. Cooldown 9/8/7/6/5.
  • Focused Resolve (W): a damaging tether that roots if it holds; Mantra adds healing and a longer root. Cooldown 12.
  • Inspire (E): a shield and Move Speed for an ally; with Mantra, the shield grows and spreads to nearby allied champions. Cooldown 10/9.5/9/8.5/8.
  • Mantra (R): empowers the next ability, unlocked at level 1 with no skill point. Cooldown 40/38/36/34.

Gathering Fire is why she loves this map. Every damaging spell that lands cuts Mantra’s cooldown, and on the Howling Abyss there’s almost always a champion within reach of Inner Flame, so Mantra comes back far faster than its listed 40 seconds. Two ways to spend it. A Mantra Inner Flame into a clump of enemies is the poke plan; a Mantra Inspire, shielding and speeding up everyone near her target, is how she wins a fight or escapes one. Which is better for a Karma ARAM game? Depends on whether your team is diving or getting dove.

What is the best Karma ARAM build?

Malignance first. Scorn gives 20 Ultimate Ability Haste, and Mantra is her ultimate, so this is a straight increase in how often she gets empowered spells. It also brings 600 Mana for the spam.

Next, Blackfire Torch. Baleful Blaze adds a magic damage burn for 3 seconds after her damaging abilities, and Blackfire grants extra Ability Power for every enemy champion burning at once. Inner Flame hitting three enemies in a tight lane means three stacks. That’s the whole idea.

Shadowflame third: 110 Ability Power, 15 Magic Penetration, and Cinderbloom makes magic damage crit enemies below 40% Health for 20% more. Void Staff finishes, with 40% Magic Penetration for the tanks a random comp tends to roll. Sorcerer’s Shoes give 12 flat Magic Penetration on top, and that flat number hits hardest early, before anyone on the enemy team has finished a Magic Resist item.

Prefer to play her as a support? Swap Shadowflame and Void Staff for Moonstone Renewer and Redemption. Moonstone’s Starlit Grace chains her shields to a second ally, and a Mantra Inspire already hits several (honestly, the poke version usually does more in ARAM).

How should Karma play teamfights on one lane?

  • Mantra Inner Flame into groups. The delayed second blast hits wherever they were standing.
  • Land spells constantly. Gathering Fire shortens Mantra with every damaging hit.
  • Save one Mantra for Inspire when the enemy dives. It shields and speeds up every nearby ally.
  • Throw Inner Flame past the wave. Any minion in the path sets it off early.
  • Take health relics when they’re free. No recall exists on this map.

Which summoner spells and fountain buys suit Karma?

Lobby picks stay all game. Flash is the obvious one for a mage whose only escape is a Move Speed shield. Mark can work if your team needs an engage starter, but a poke Karma rarely wants to dash into five people. Look, Flash and a defensive spell is the safe pair.

There’s no recall, so she buys at the fountain when the game starts and each time she respawns. Aim to finish Malignance on the first return; the Ultimate Ability Haste is what changes her pace. Mana usually isn’t a problem once it’s done.

Is Karma good in ARAM?

Yes. The nerf is tiny (98% damage dealt, 100% damage taken), Mantra resets fast when every spell finds a target, and a Mantra Inspire is one of the better team-wide saves in the mode. Her weakness is getting caught by dive, since her only escape is a speed shield.

The Karma counters guide covers who beats her in lane, and the Karma skins page shows all her looks.

In practice, the Karma ARAM build is Malignance, Blackfire Torch, Shadowflame and Void Staff on Sorcerer’s Shoes: Mantra Q into groups, land spells to bring Mantra back, and keep one for Inspire when the dive comes.

FAQ

Is Karma nerfed in ARAM?

Slightly. She deals 98% damage, and damage taken stays at 100%, per the Wiki’s patch 26.21 data.

Why build Malignance on Karma?

Its Scorn passive grants Ultimate Ability Haste, and Mantra is Karma’s ultimate, so she empowers spells more often.

Does Gathering Fire still shorten Mantra here?

Yes. Gathering Fire lowers Mantra’s cooldown whenever her damaging abilities hit, the same as on Summoner’s Rift.

Should Karma use Mantra on Q or E?

Q for poke into grouped enemies, E when the enemy team dives, since Mantra Inspire shields every nearby ally.

How was this Karma build chosen?

From her patch 26.21 kit and item descriptions: an ultimate available from level 1, a damage-based cooldown passive and area poke. No win-rate data was used.
