How to Recover Your Roblox Username: Forgot Username Fix

Updated November 6, 2026
If you forgot your Roblox username, you can recover it through the same Account Recovery flow that resets a forgotten password — using either a verified email or phone number on the account. Roblox’s own introduction: “This article provides step-by-step instructions for recovering your Roblox username using either your verified email address or phone number. You will be able to see your username and reset your password when you go through the Account Recovery process.” This guide walks each path and explains what to do if you have no email, no phone, and no purchase history. Finding your username without going through recovery
If you can still log in, your username is visible on your profile. Roblox’s instruction: open the profile page and look for the @username line beneath your display name.
On the Roblox web client, the profile page is accessed via the gear icon → Profile. On mobile, it is under the three-dots icon → Profile. The @username line beneath the display name is the account username.
If you cannot log in, continue to the recovery flows below.
Recover username via email address
Roblox’s step-by-step email recovery:
- Select Forgot Username or Password on the Login page. You will see the “Recover your Roblox Account” title on the Recovery page.
- Enter your email address in the Email box and press Submit. Roblox’s exact note: “Please make sure to type your email address exactly as you entered it on your account.”
- Roblox sends an email with a link to recover your account.
- Follow the link — you will see a list of usernames that match your account.
- After retrieving your username you can log in.
If the email does not arrive within a few minutes, Roblox’s reminder applies: “please be sure to check your junk/spam folders.”
Recover username via phone number
If no email is on the account but a phone number is:
- Select Forgot Username or Password on the Login page.
- Select the Phone tab on the Recovery page.
- Select your country code.
- Enter the phone number in the Phone Number box and press Continue.
- Roblox sends an SMS with a verification code.
- Enter the code to confirm the account.
- You will see a list of usernames that match that phone number.
- Pick the username you want and log in.
If the SMS does not arrive within a minute or two, verify the phone number is correct, and try again with the Resend option on the recovery page.
What if multiple usernames match?
If you created several Roblox accounts over the years with the same email or phone number, the recovery list shows all of them. Three ways to identify the correct account:
- Creation date. Older accounts have earlier creation dates; the account you want is probably the oldest on the list if you have been playing a long time.
- Last activity. The account you were actively playing is the one with the most recent activity.
- Known username patterns. If you remember using a particular naming scheme for your accounts, the username matching that scheme is yours.
Roblox does not merge accounts, so pick the right one. Items, Robux, and friends on one account do not transfer to another.
Without email, phone, or purchase history
Roblox is explicit about the hard case, verbatim: “These methods above will only work if there was an email or phone number added to the account before you forgot the username. The only other way to locate the username is if you made a purchase on Roblox. Some purchase receipts include the username of the account used to make the purchase, and you can locate it there.”
And the harsh bottom line: “Without an email, phone number, or purchase history there is no way to recover the account.”
This is a lesson learned the hard way by many players who created Roblox accounts years ago without email verification. The fix is now a hard requirement for recovery.
Finding your username from purchase receipts
If you have made any purchase on Roblox — Robux, Premium, gift card redemption, in-experience items — the receipt may include the username. Check:
- Email receipts from Roblox or from the payment processor (Stripe, Apple, Google).
- App Store/Google Play purchase history on your phone — look for Roblox transactions and tap into each for details.
- Credit card or bank statement history — search for “Roblox” charges and cross-reference with your email for the associated username.
- Gift card redemption confirmation emails — these usually include the username that redeemed the gift card.
Older purchase receipts often include less information. Receipts from the last year or two are more likely to include the username.
What to do once you recover your username
Three immediate security steps after username recovery:
- Reset the password. The Account Recovery flow lets you reset both at the same time. Use a unique strong password that is not reused on any other site.
- Add missing verification. If your account had only email, add a phone number too. If it had only phone, add an email. Two verification methods make future recovery far easier.
- Enable 2-Step Verification. See our 2SV setup guide. This prevents future unauthorized access.
The cleanup takes about 10 minutes once you are back in the account. Skipping it means risking another lost-account scenario.
Preventing a forgotten username
Four habits that prevent future “I forgot my username” situations:
- Save credentials in a password manager when you create the account.
- Verify both email and phone on the account immediately after creation.
- Write down or save the initial creation details somewhere offline — a note in a secure folder, a dedicated notebook for game accounts.
- Use a consistent email for all game accounts. This means recovery emails from any game go to a predictable inbox you check.
The password manager is the single highest-impact habit. One tool handles username, password, and recovery setup across every game and site you use.
Display name versus username — the key distinction
Roblox has two visible player names:
- Display name — the name shown in-game and on your profile card. Players can change this periodically.
- Username — the unique account identifier prefixed with @. This is permanent and cannot be changed without paid name-change services.
The forgot-username flow recovers the username, not the display name. Display names are irrelevant to account recovery; only the username can be used to log in.
What if I remember part of my username?
Roblox does not offer partial-username search for recovery. The recovery flow works by matching against email or phone, not by guessing from a partial username.
If you remember part of your username but have no email or phone on the account, your only paths are:
- Checking purchase receipts (as covered above).
- Contacting Roblox Support with the partial username and any other identifying details — this is a long-shot path that rarely succeeds.
- Accepting the account is effectively lost and creating a new one.
The “I remember my username is ‘xXCool…’ but not the rest” scenario does not have an official self-service solution. Roblox prioritises account security over username search to prevent username enumeration attacks.
FAQ
How do I recover my Roblox username?
Use the Forgot Username or Password flow on the Login page. Enter the email address or phone number on the account, follow the verification steps, and Roblox lists the usernames tied to that email or phone.
Does Roblox support SMS for username recovery?
Yes. The phone-number recovery path uses SMS to send a verification code. Select the Phone tab on the Recovery page, enter your country code and phone number, and Roblox sends the SMS.
What if my account has no email or phone?
Roblox’s own line: “Without an email, phone number, or purchase history there is no way to recover the account.” Check purchase receipts; some include the username. Otherwise, the account is effectively lost.
Can I see my username from a Roblox gift card receipt?
Often yes. Gift card redemption emails typically include the Roblox username that redeemed the card. Search your email inbox for “Roblox” and “gift card” to find relevant receipts.
If multiple accounts match my email, how do I pick?
The recovery page shows all usernames tied to that email. Pick based on creation date, recent activity, or your memory of the naming pattern you used. Items and Robux do not merge between accounts.
Is the username recovery the same as password reset?
They are combined into a single flow. Roblox’s own line: “You will be able to see your username and reset your password when you go through the Account Recovery process.” You retrieve the username and set a new password in one session.
Why does Roblox need me to type the email exactly as entered?
Email matching is case-insensitive but character-sensitive. Roblox matches “name.example@domain.com” differently from “nameexample@domain.com” (without the period). The exact string entered at account creation is the string Roblox searches against.
