Roblox Account Recovery: Password, Hack, Email Fix

Updated November 6, 2026
Roblox account recovery depends on which path you have left — email, phone number, or neither. Roblox’s own guidance on the forgotten-password flow is explicit: “If you can’t remember your password, you will need to reset it and create a new one using the Account Recovery feature.” If the account was hacked, the fix is longer and involves removing malware first, then resetting the password, then enabling 2-Step Verification. All steps below are quoted from Roblox’s own support pages, verified on 6 November 2026.

Reset password using an email address
This is the most common recovery path. Roblox’s six-step walkthrough:
- Select Forgot Password or Username? on the Roblox Login page.
- You will see the “Recover your Roblox Account” title on the recovery page.
- Enter the email address in the box and press the Submit button.
- Roblox’s exact caveat: “Make sure to add the valid email address. For example, if your address is ‘name.example@domain.com’ and on the Roblox account it is ‘nameexample@domain.com’ without the period, you will need to type it without the period.” Every character must match the registered email exactly.
- An email with instructions arrives at the address on the account. Press the Reset Password button in the email. Roblox’s reminder: “If, after a few minutes, the email doesn’t seem to arrive, please be sure to check your junk/spam folders.”
- On the Reset Password page, enter and confirm the new password, then press Submit.
Roblox’s own warning on the new password: “Make sure to create a new password. Do not use your old password or reuse a password from another account.” A password reused from a breached site becomes the attack vector within hours.
Reset password using a phone number
If no email is on the account but a phone number is, the phone-recovery flow is:
- Select Forgot Password or Username? on the Login page.
- Click the Phone tab on the Recovery page.
- Select your country code.
- Enter the phone number and press Continue.
- Press Verify. Roblox sends a 6-digit code by SMS.
- Enter the 6-digit code and press Verify.
- On the Reset Password page, enter and confirm the new password, then press Submit.
If multiple accounts share the same phone number, Roblox will ask which account to reset after the code is entered.
What if you don’t have email or phone on the account?
Roblox’s own answer is direct: “If you didn’t add an email address or phone number to your account, and try to reset your password, you can’t reset your password with this feature.” The only path left is Customer Support.
To open the ticket, Roblox requires proof of account ownership. The exact text from the hacked-account article: “To help us verify you are the original account owner, please contact us using either the first email address added to the account; the billing email address used for the very first payment.” Even if the account was later compromised and the email changed, the original email and the first-ever billing email are the two most useful identifiers for verification.
Roblox’s follow-up caveat is also explicit: “While having this information helps us in the verification process, please be aware that we conduct a thorough review of account details, and providing this information does not guarantee account recovery.” There is no guaranteed path.
If the account was hacked
A hacked account needs more than a password reset. Roblox’s full recovery sequence:
Step 1 — Remove malware and browser extensions
Roblox’s own warning: “You will need to get rid of any malware before recovering your account. If you’ve accidentally downloaded something from a bad site, this could allow your account to be compromised again.” The practical steps:
- Run a full virus scan on the computer to remove harmful files.
- Restart the computer and run the scan one more time to be safe.
- Remove browser extensions. Roblox is explicit: “Any browser extensions installed should be removed. Only use extensions from safe and verified websites.”
Skipping this step is the most common reason a recovered account gets re-hacked within hours. If the malware is still on the device, the new password gets stolen on the first login.
Step 2 — Reset the password
Use the email or phone recovery flows above. Pick a long password that was never used on another site. Password managers generate strong unique passwords at no cost.
Step 3 — Enable 2-Step Verification
Roblox’s own advice: “Enable 2-Step Verification as an added security measure for your account. This feature can be found by going to Settings > Security.” The strongest 2SV method for Roblox is an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Duo, Twilio Authy). Even if the password leaks again, the attacker cannot log in without the 2SV code.
Items and currency lost in a hack
Roblox is explicit about the limits of recovery, verbatim: “Unless required by law, Roblox is under no obligation to assist users whose accounts have been compromised. Roblox does not guarantee that an individual’s account will be restored to its previous state, or that Roblox will be able to recover lost virtual items or virtual currency.”
There is a narrow window where Roblox may help: “Only in very limited circumstances, Roblox may be able to offer compromised account owners the ability to recover lost inventory or the approximate value of that inventory. In case your account is compromised, and you seek assistance, you must contact Roblox within 30 days of compromise.”
Thirty days from the hack is the hard limit. Contact support immediately; waiting even a week reduces the chance of recovery.
I forgot my username
Roblox has a separate article for a forgotten username. The flow mirrors password recovery:
- Go to Login page → Forgot Password or Username?
- Enter the email or phone number on the account.
- Roblox sends a list of usernames associated with that email or phone.
If multiple accounts were created with the same email over the years, all of them appear in the recovery message. Pick the one to reset based on the account creation date or stored username in the browser.
Trades, deals, and scam recovery
Items lost through an off-platform trade or scam are unrecoverable. Roblox’s position is explicit: “Roblox does not support and can not enforce or recover inventory for players making deals for items or currency outside of our official systems. You should never make a trade or purchase outside the system because the other person could trick you and back out.”
If approached with a trade offer on Discord, a forum, or a direct message: do not accept. Report the player via the in-game Report Abuse feature. Roblox’s own line: “Stealing accounts or items or currency is a severe violation of the Terms of Use. Any and all associated accounts involved in theft will be deleted.”
What Customer Support actually needs
When the self-service flow fails and you have to open a ticket, Roblox’s hacked-account article lists what Support uses to verify ownership:
- The first email address ever added to the account. Even if the attacker has since changed the email, this historical record proves original ownership.
- The billing email address used for the very first payment on the account (Robux purchase, Premium subscription, or gift card redemption).
- If neither is available, Roblox’s exact wording: “If your account did not have an email address or a credit card/PayPal purchase associated with its creation, we can still explore other options to try and verify ownership.”
In the ticket, include the Roblox username, the date you believe the account was compromised, and any transaction IDs you still have access to. The more verification points you provide, the higher the chance of recovery.
FAQ
What if I never added an email to my Roblox account?
If no email and no phone are on the account, the self-service recovery flow cannot reset the password. The only path is Customer Support with proof of ownership — typically the first payment’s billing email or a payment receipt.
How long does Roblox take to respond to a recovery ticket?
Roblox does not publish an SLA. Response times vary with ticket volume; 24–72 hours is a typical range. Providing all required information in the first message speeds the review.
Can I recover an account from years ago?
Yes, if you remember the original email or the first payment’s billing email. Age of the account does not disqualify recovery; proof of ownership does. Older accounts with no email attached are the hardest to recover.
Why does Roblox ask about the first payment email?
Because the first payment is a strong proof of ownership that cannot be changed from the account later. Even if the account’s primary email has been swapped by an attacker, the first payment email is a historical record Roblox uses for verification.
Is my inventory safe while I recover the account?
Not entirely. An attacker with account access can trade items, spend Robux, or delete items. The 30-day window Roblox mentions is important — the sooner recovery starts, the smaller the window for the attacker to deplete the inventory.
What password strength does Roblox recommend?
Roblox’s warning is simple: do not reuse an old password or a password from another site. The practical standard is 16+ random characters generated by a password manager, unique per site.
Do I need to enable 2SV even after full recovery?
Yes. Roblox’s recommendation is unambiguous on the hacked-account article: enable 2-Step Verification via authenticator app. This is the single highest-impact step against repeat compromise.
