Two age tiers
- 16+ Age-Restricted. Social Hangouts without private spaces, Free-form User Creation, and other specific categories. Players must be 16+ AND age checked.
- 18+ Age-Restricted. Social Hangouts with private spaces. Players must be 18+ AND age checked.
“Age checked” means completing Roblox’s ID Verification or Facial Age Estimation. Phone verification does NOT count.
16+ content categories
Roblox explicitly restricts these to 16+ age-checked players:
- Social Hangouts (without private spaces). Games where the primary theme is chatting or socializing with voice or text. Hangouts, vibe games, socializing spaces, supportive places like “sad rooms”.
- Free-form User Creation. Features that let players create anything within a game — e.g., writing or drawing on a chalkboard. Applies to in-game drawing/writing tools.
- Does NOT apply to: in-game creations assembled from 3D assets (building a house, creating an outfit) or content moderated by Roblox before publish.
18+ content
Only one specific category is 18+ (per the published policy):
- Social Hangouts with private spaces. Hangout-style games that offer private rooms or spaces. Only 18+ age-checked players can access.
Content classification rules
Roblox’s rules for creators:
- Age-Restricted games must complete the Maturity & Compliance Questionnaire.
- All public-facing information (game descriptions, thumbnails, videos) must be appropriate for general audiences — even if the game itself is 16+ or 18+.
