Been maining Karma on and off since season 3 and this skin hits different when you know the history behind it. Traditional Karma exists because Riot completely overhauled Karma’s visual design in her 2013 rework, and a chunk of the playerbase lost their minds. Fair warning, if you never played old Karma, the emotional weight of this one might not land for you. But for those of us who were there? This skin is a time capsule.
What Traditional Karma actually preserves
The whole point of this skin is keeping Karma’s pre-rework identity alive. Her original outfit, the fans, the overall silhouette. Riot gave it new VFX and new voice lines through Danielle McRae, which honestly surprised me because most Standard tier skins dont get that treatment. The abilities have a warmer color palette compared to base Karma. Think golds and greens instead of the cooler tones on the reworked default.
Not gonna lie, the model feels dated by 2026 standards. The textures are rough around the edges and the geometry is simple. But thats kind of the point. You’re not picking this for visual fidelity. You’re picking it because you remember when Karma had two fans and her kit worked completely differently. Played maybe 200 games with this skin across multiple seasons and every time I lock in, some support main in my Diamond games asks about it.
The recall animation is base Karma’s recall, nothing custom there. Voice lines stay unique to this skin though, which gives it personality that most 975 RP skins lack. Her Q and R-Q look noticeably different from default. Warmer tones on the Mantra empowered abilities specifically. Could be wrong here but I think the W tether has a slightly different hue too, more of a deep amber.
The Traditional skinline and why it matters
Jessica ‘OwleyCat’ Oyhenart nailed the splash. It captures old Karma’s elegance without looking like generic fantasy art. Released March 29, 2013, same patch as the rework itself. Riot handed these Traditional skins out for free to anyone who owned the champion before the rework. Traditional Trundle and Traditional Sejuani came out the same way.
The Traditional line is Riot’s way of saying “we changed your champion but here’s what they used to look like.” Only three skins in the entire line. No chromas on this one, zero. Legacy vault skin, so you can’t just walk into the shop and grab it. You either got it free back in 2013 or you’re waiting for the vault to rotate open. Last Tuesday I checked my collection and realized I’ve had this skin for over 13 years. Wild.
975 RP is the listed price but good luck finding it available. In the Legacy pool means it shows up during special events or you might roll it from Hextech crafting. (Random aside: I keep this skin equipped purely out of spite because my duo partner insists reworked Karma is better in every way and I refuse to let old Karma die.)
Should you care about Traditional Karma?
Real verdict: this skin is for Karma one-tricks who respect the champion’s history. Period. If you started playing in season 8 or later, base Karma or something like Dawnbringer Karma will serve you better visually. The model is old. The textures are old. The VFX are warm and pleasant but nothing spectacular.
But if you were there pre-rework, grinding those fan combos in bot lane, this is the only Karma skin that matters emotionally. Kinda feels like Riot acknowledged they took something away and tried to give a piece of it back. Best executed of the Traditional set in my opinion. Trundle’s version looks rough, Sejuani’s is forgettable, but Karma’s actually holds up as a playable skin in ranked. 975 RP feels fair for what you get, especially with the unique voice work. Skip this unless you already main her or you’re a completionist hunting Legacy skins. For everyone else, there’s better Karma options at the same price point or lower. S-tier nostalgia pick though. The Karma skin if you can only own one from the pre-rework era, because it literally is the only one.
