Snow Moon Caitlyn

First game I played with Snow Moon Caitlyn was around 1 AM on a weeknight, queued up for a Diamond ranked game and immediately noticed the rifle. The whole weapon design got this pale moonlit steel look that reads completely different from base Caitlyn. Not gonna lie, the loading screen splash alone sold me before I even saw abilities in motion.

What Snow Moon actually brings to the table

So for an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, Snow Moon Caitlyn delivers where it counts. New VFX across the board. Her Q fires this crescent-shaped energy wave that leaves a faint frost trail on the ground. Clean. The W traps got redesigned into these lunar seal circles, and when an enemy steps on one the detonation has this satisfying white-blue burst that honestly makes it easier to track in chaotic teamfights.

Her E net has a trailing moon particle effect. Small touch but it changes the feel of the ability when you’re kiting back from a diving Irelia or peeling yourself in the bot lane. The R channel is where Riot put the most work – Caitlyn’s ult charges with this massive crescent moon forming around the barrel, and the projectile itself leaves a lunar streak across the Rift. Played maybe 40 games with this skin and I still catch myself watching the ult animation instead of tracking if the target will flash it.

The recall animation fits the Snow Moon fantasy. Caitlyn does this ceremonial pose with her rifle, lunar energy swirling around her. Its cool but nothing groundbreaking compared to some other Epic recalls. Voice lines stay base, no new VO which is expected at this price point.

(Random aside: the in-game model hair color on this skin is genuinely better than half of Caitlyn’s Legendary options, fight me on that.)

The Snow Moon line and where Caitlyn fits

Snow Moon dropped June 23, 2022. Mid-season 12. Alex ‘alexplank’ Flores nailed the splash art – the composition with Caitlyn perched on that rooftop with the moon behind her is one of those splashes that works as a wallpaper without cropping.

The Snow Moon skinline is one of Riot’s more subtle thematic lines. Not as flashy as Spirit Blossom or as edgy as Crime City Nightmare. Kinda feels like they were going for a Japanese winter moon aesthetic mixed with assassin vibes. Caitlyn fits naturally since her sniper fantasy translates well into the “silent moonlit hunter” concept. Compared to Snow Moon Kayn or Snow Moon Illaoi from the same set, I think Caitlyn got the cleanest execution.

8 chromas total for Snow Moon Caitlyn. Tanzanite is my pick, the deep purple swaps the cool blue tones for something that reads more mystical. Sapphire stays close to the base palette so thats kind of redundant honestly. Pearl goes full white and silver which looks premium but can blend into Howling Abyss if you play ARAM. Rest of them are fine but nothing I’d prioritize buying over those three.

Should you pick up Snow Moon Caitlyn?

Real verdict: this is a solid mid-tier option in what might be the most stacked skin catalog in the game. Caitlyn has so many skins at this point that competition is brutal. Been running this in Diamond for a couple months after release and kept coming back to it over Headhunter and Lunar Wraith specifically because the VFX clarity on W traps is genuinely better for ranked play.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New particles, new recall, clean model. No new voice lines but thats standard for Epic skins. If you’re an ADC main who plays Caitlyn in your ranked rotation, this is worth picking up. Shop has it, permanent availability, no vault nonsense.

Where it falls short compared to something like Arcane Commander or the Prestige variant is the lack of any unique audio cues. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack sounds are identical to base, and for a champion where you’re constantly cs-ing and poking in lane, that matters more than people realize. Still, for pure visual impact during teamfights and late-game sieges, Snow Moon Caitlyn holds up. Not the best Caitlyn skin full stop, but comfortably top five. Seen maybe 2 other people use it in my games all season which is a plus if you want something less common than Pool Party or Battle Academia.
