First game I loaded into with Heartthrob Caitlyn, my support pinged the splash in champ select and typed “fancy.” Thats basically the vibe. Riot dropped this during the Valentine’s event back in February 2023, and it slots right into the Heartthrobs and Heartaches line alongside some genuinely solid skins. Played maybe 30 games on it that first week in Diamond and the skin just felt clean in lane. Not flashy clean, more like “everything reads well at a glance” clean.
What Heartthrob Caitlyn actually brings to the table
This is a 1350 RP Epic tier skin so you get the standard package: new model, new VFX, new recall, but voice lines stay base. No VO refresh. For Caitlyn specifically that matters less than you’d think because her kit is so visually driven that the particle work carries most of the personality.
The Q – Piltover Peacemaker – fires with this pink-gold energy trail that reads really well against the Rift. Honestly not gonna lie, the projectile clarity on this skin might be better than half her Legendaries. Her W traps get the heart motif treatment, little rose-gold snap traps that blend into river grass just enough to feel satisfying when someone walks into one. Trapped a Leona in dragon pit last Tuesday around 11 PM with one of those and the particle pop on activation looked crisp.
E is smooth. Net fires clean, nothing groundbreaking but the color palette stays consistent. R is where the skin earns some points – the ult channel has this dramatic heart-shaped targeting reticle that your target definitely notices. Good psychological pressure in teamfight scenarios when the enemy ADC sees that lock on.
Recall animation is cute. Valentine’s themed, she does the whole elegant pose thing. Not the best recall in her skin catalog but solid for an Epic. Could be wrong here but I think the auto attack particles are slightly more visible than base, which actually helps with cs-ing in lane. The projectile has a slight warmth to it that pops against minion health bars.
The Heartthrobs line and release context
Heartthrobs and Heartaches dropped February 10, 2023. Late into season 13. Francis Tneh and West Studio handled the artwork, and they captured something interesting with the splash – Caitlyn looks confident without the usual “action pose” energy most of her skins go for. More composed. Like she’s at a gala and still the most dangerous person in the room.
The Heartthrobs and Heartaches skinline is one of Riot’s Valentine’s rotations. Not their strongest thematic overall but Caitlyn fits it naturally. She already has that refined Piltover aesthetic, so dressing her up for a formal event doesnt feel forced the way it does on some champions. (Random aside: the splash makes a surprisingly good desktop wallpaper if you crop it right.)
8 chromas total for this one. Obsidian is my personal pick – strips out the pink and goes dark, almost like a different skin entirely. Amethyst hits hard too, the purple tones give it more of a mystical edge that reads closer to Arcana than Valentine’s. Ruby exists but its basically just a redder version of the base which feels redundant when the base already leans warm. The rest – Turquoise, Sapphire, Rose Quartz, Peridot, Sandstone – I’ve seen maybe two of those in my games all season. Permanent shop, grab it whenever.
Where Heartthrob sits in Caitlyn’s skin lineup
Real talk though. Caitlyn has one of the biggest skin pools in the game. Arcade, Pool Party, Headhunter, the Arcane skins, Snow Moon, DRX. Competition is steep. Heartthrob Caitlyn doesnt try to compete with Pulsefire or the prestige variants on spectacle. It competes on clarity and aesthetics.
Been running this in ranked rotation alongside Snow Moon for a few months now. The two fill different moods. Snow Moon for the cold calculated sniper fantasy, Heartthrob for when you want something warmer. Not sure if it’s just me but I tend to play more aggressive with Heartthrob equipped. Might be the color palette making me feel bolder in lane, might be nothing.
For ADC mains who play Caitlyn in their rotation – not one-tricks necessarily but people who pull her out for poke lanes or when they need backline safety – this skin sits comfortably in the top half. The VFX dont clutter your screen during teamfights, the auto attacks feel responsive, and the trap visibility hits a sweet spot where you can track them but they’re not glowing beacons for the enemy.
1350 RP feels fair for what you get. You’re not getting new voice lines or transformation gimmicks, but the visual package is tight. Season 13 skin quality was generally strong and Heartthrob Caitlyn reflects that. Skip it if you already own three or four Caitlyn skins and feel covered. Pick it up if you main her and want something elegant for the collection. Obsidian chroma specifically – worth the extra RP if you like darker color schemes on your marksman skins. Been daily driving that variant since patch 13.4 or whenever it dropped, dont remember exactly, and it still holds up.
