Mecha Kha'Zix - Splash, Price & Chromas

First time I saw Mecha Kha’Zix load into a game I thought someone modded a Gundam into League. Not even joking. The skin dropped September 26, 2012, back when Kha’Zix himself was still fresh on the Rift, and it immediately became the default pick for anyone who wanted their bug to look like a walking weapons platform. Been running this as my go-to Kha’Zix skin since season 3 honestly and it still holds up better than skins half its age.

The full mech treatment

So what actually changes. Kha’Zix goes from organic void creature to a full metallic mech suit. Think sharp angular plating, glowing red visor, jet thrusters on the back. The color scheme is this gunmetal grey with red and gold accents that reads clean against every map background. Not gonna lie, the silhouette alone makes you feel more threatening in lane.

The VFX got a proper overhaul for an Epic. His Q slash has this mechanical energy burst instead of the void claw swipe. W shoots out what looks like missile projectiles with red trails. Played maybe 150 games with this skin last season and the W particles specifically are easier to track than base, which sounds like a small thing but matters when youre trying to poke from fog. E leap has jet thruster effects on takeoff and landing. Clean stuff.

R stealth shimmer keeps the mech aesthetic too. The evolved forms are where this skin really earns the 1350 RP though. Evolved wings look like actual fighter jet appendages. Evolved claws get bigger mechanical blades. Each evolution feels like an upgrade sequence from a mecha anime, which I think was exactly the point.

Voice lines stay base. No new VO, which is expected at this price point and this release era. Same void predator voice, just coming out of a robot body now. Kinda feels like they could have at least added a voice filter to sell the mech fantasy harder, but for 2012 standards this was premium content.

Mecha line and the details

The Mecha skinline is one of Riot’s older thematic sets. Mecha Kha’Zix alongside Mecha Malphite and later Mecha Aatrox, Mecha Rengar. The Kha’Zix entry is arguably the best executed of the set because the champion’s base design already has that insectoid exoskeleton look that translates perfectly into mechanical armor. Mecha Rengar feels forced by comparison (sidebar for jungle mains: you know exactly what I mean).

6 chromas total if you want variety. Sapphire turns the whole suit into this deep blue military tone that I think reads the cleanest in teamfights. Tanzanite goes purple, gives off an EVA Unit-01 vibe that the anime crowd eats up. Pearl is the sleeper pick, the white and pale green scheme looks premium. Rest of them are fine but those three stood out across my Diamond games this split.

September 2012 release puts this skin at over a decade old now. Season 2 or early season 3 depending on how you count it. Still in the shop at 1350 RP, permanent availability. For context thats before Riot standardized what “Epic” even meant, so the fact that it got VFX at all was generous for the era. Could be wrong here but I think this was one of the first 1350 skins period.

Should you lock in Mecha Kha’Zix?

Real verdict: if you play Kha’Zix in the jungle with any regularity this skin is a must-own. 1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The mech fantasy is executed well, the VFX are distinct without being distracting during ganking or diving the backline, and the evolved forms look genuinely sick. I had a game last Thursday where I went 14/2 with this skin on and my support typed “mech diff” in all chat. Worth.

The competition is stiff though. Dark Star Kha’Zix exists. Odyssey Kha’Zix exists. Both are newer, both have more polish. But Mecha has a specific identity that those dont replicate. It’s the mech skin, not the cosmic skin, not the space explorer skin. If giant robot Kha’Zix appeals to you even slightly, the Sapphire or Tanzanite chroma on top of this makes it S-tier. Spammed this in Diamond all through last split and I keep coming back to it over flashier options. That says something.

Skip it only if you already own Dark Star and are tight on RP. Otherwise, top pick for Kha’Zix mains, no question.
