Marauder Xin Zhao Skin - Splash Art, Price & Chromas

Ran into a Marauder Xin Zhao in my Diamond lobby last week and double-checked the loading screen because the armor reads cleaner than I expected from a 1350 skin. The Marauder line doesn’t get talked about enough. Dark plate metal, aggressive silhouette, and Xin Zhao wearing it just makes sense given the warrior-conqueror angle he’s built around. Not flashy. Purposeful. Exactly what you want when you’re ganking pre-6 and need to look like you mean it.

What Marauder Xin Zhao changes in-game

New VFX. That’s the big ticket for Epic tier and Marauder Xin Zhao delivers on it. The spear effects shift to a darker, blood-tinted palette and honestly the change helps his Three Talon Strike Q read better in dense teamfights. Base Xin Zhao Q has this blue-gold glow that blends into a lot of team comps. Marauder goes darker and cuts through the visual noise more cleanly.

The E, Audacious Charge, gets updated particles too. The sweep visuals look heavier, more like a soldier committing a hard engage on their backline rather than a knight doing a polished flourish. His ult Crescent Guard has a darker slash on the arena boundary: subtle, but consistent with the armor theme. Kinda feels like the VFX team wanted this skin to read as “unforgiving” rather than “cool fighter.”

New recall too. He spins the spear, plants it, salutes grimly and ports back. Short. Satisfying. Seen maybe three or four of these in my games all season, so it still hits fresh when it shows up. No new voice lines, base VO stays as-is. Richard Epcar’s delivery holds up fine without an update.

Release date, Lucas Parolin, and the Marauder skinline

Marauder Xin Zhao dropped January 7, 2021. Early January, right when the season reset grind was kicking off and everyone was spamming ranked for early placements. Lucas Parolin and West Studio handled the splash art, and thats a collab that paid off: the armor detail is sharp, the shadow work gives it a dark military feel that matches how the skin plays in-game.

The Marauder skinline covers a solid chunk of fighters and bruisers across the Rift, Alistar and Warwick and Kalista all sharing that dark-plated conqueror aesthetic. He slots in about as naturally as anyone in the line. (sidebar for Xin Zhao mains specifically: this one makes far more thematic sense than the old Imperial skin, which was basically a palette swap with no real concept behind it)

8 chromas on Marauder Xin Zhao. Obsidian is the clear standout: nearly black plate with blood-red VFX that looks genuinely menacing when you’re clearing jungle. Amethyst goes purple without going garish, reads cleanly in most game states. Citrine gives you a dark-gold warlord look which I think fits the Marauder fantasy harder than the base blue-grey colorway. There’s a few more in the set but those three carry the actual personality.

Is Marauder Xin Zhao worth 1350 RP?

Straight talk: yes, if Xin Zhao is in your regular ranked rotation. The new VFX aren’t just cosmetic, the Q changes and the ult boundary effects actually help your abilities read in fights. Recall is tight. Model doesn’t look like Riot cut corners. For an Epic this is on the better end of what you get at 1350 RP.

Grinded Diamond 2 ranked with this against Dragonslayer Xin Zhao around mid-season and Marauder wins on in-game clarity. Dragonslayer has a more dramatic concept but the VFX muddy up in five-way teamfights, especially against champions with heavy particle effects. Played probably 60 games with each back to back and kept coming back to Marauder. The cleaner read matters when you’re tracking your own Q procs mid-engage.

Not gonna lie, 1350 feels fair for what the skin delivers. Shop has it permanently so no time pressure, no FOMO. Worth the RP if you main him and want your kit to read better in fights. Top pick for Xin Zhao mains at this price point.
