Been running Viscero Xin Zhao off and on since early season 2. The skin dropped November 22, 2010 – practically prehistoric by League standards – and it still holds up in a specific way. Not saying it’s the cleanest Xin Zhao skin in the roster. But there’s something about the plate armor and the brutal warrior aesthetic that fits the champion’s kit better than half the flashier alternatives released years later. Simple. Aggressive. On theme.
What Viscero Xin Zhao actually changes
At 975 RP, Viscero is a Standard tier skin, so don’t walk in expecting new animations or voice work. Voice lines stay base – Richard Epcar’s delivery carries over unchanged from default. No new recall, no fresh VFX on abilities. What you actually get is a full texture rework: heavy plate armor with a dark metal palette, spiked pauldrons, and a redesigned lance that reads more like a weapon of war than the base model does.
The color scheme runs darker overall – deep grays and blacks replacing the base skin’s more neutral tones. Playing Xin Zhao in jungle clear or bot lane skirmishes, the design communicates the champion’s aggression better than default. Kinda feels like the art direction was gunning for a mercenary warlord look, and it delivers without overcomplicating things. Not flashy. Coherent instead.
For a champion whose kit is Q in, W for the proc, ult the entire backline, that cleaner dark silhouette actually helps in teamfights. Thats a real gameplay advantage that sounds small until you’re hard-stuck Bronze trying to track your own character in a messy engage around dragon pit. Been there.
The Chronicle line and Christian Fell’s splash
Viscero Xin Zhao is part of the Chronicle skinline – one of Riot’s early warrior-themed collections from the pre-rework era. Not the most cohesive skinline they ever assembled, if I’m being honest. But the pieces work individually, and Xin Zhao fits it well. The champion’s whole identity is “unstoppable forward pressure” and Chronicle doesn’t fight that.
Christian Fell did the splash. The artwork shows Xin Zhao mid-charge, lance forward, heavy armor catching harsh light. Not sure if it’s just me but the composition holds up better than a lot of 2010-era splash art – Fell understood the assignment before that was even a phrase people said.
(random aside: this splash has been my lock-in screen wallpaper for like three different phones at this point)
Worth pulling from the vault?
Real verdict: Viscero Xin Zhao sits in the Legacy vault now. Legacy catalog means you can’t just buy it – need to roll it from Hextech loot or catch a vault rotation event. That friction matters.
975 RP for a texture-only Standard skin is a tougher ask in 2025 than it was back in season 1. Worth it for Xin Zhao mains who want a grounded, aggressive aesthetic over the flashier alternatives. Skip if you want new VFX or anything beyond the visual rework. The skin earns its spot for champion mains, but casual players should probably pass on the loot roll.
