Dragonslayer Trundle

First game I played with Dragonslayer Trundle was a late night ranked session, maybe 1 AM on a Tuesday. Locked him in jungle, loaded up, and the splash alone had me hyped. Trundle standing there holding what looks like a dragon spine as a club. Not gonna lie, I wasnt expecting much from a Trundle skin but this one caught me off guard. The whole dragon-hunting warrior fantasy works way better on him than it has any right to.

What Dragonslayer Trundle actually brings

So the VFX overhaul is the main draw here. His Q slam gets this orange-red dragon fire burst on impact that reads cleanly in teamfights. You can actually track your Q proc in the middle of a messy engage, which matters more than people think for Trundle specifically. The pillar, his E, spawns with these fiery cracks running through it. Looks like a chunk of volcanic rock just erupted from the Rift. Clean visual, and your teammates can spot it faster in chaotic fights which helps with peel calls.

W throws down a burning ground effect. Kinda feels like you’re fighting on top of a lava field. The contrast against Summoner’s Rift grass is strong enough that you always know when you’re standing in your own zone, which sounds minor but in Diamond games where you’re splitting and need to kite back through your W, that visibility helps.

His ult drains with these red particle streams connecting you to the target. Solid effect. Not the flashiest thing but it communicates “I am currently draining your stats” to everyone watching. The recall animation is where Riot had fun though. Trundle plants his club in the ground and this mini dragon skeleton assembles around it. Good stuff. Been running this in my jungle rotation since season 10 and the recall never gets old.

Voice lines stay base. No new VO, which is standard for a 1350 RP Epic tier skin. The base Trundle voice still works fine here honestly, his troll personality clashing with the serious dragonslayer armor creates this weird comedic contrast that I think is intentional.

The Dragon World line and release context

Dragonslayer Trundle dropped January 30, 2020. Right in the middle of season 10. Lucas Parolin and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked on the splash. The composition with Trundle mid-swing against that dragon backdrop goes hard.

The Dragon World skinline is one of Riot’s longer running themes. Dragonslayer Pantheon, Dragonslayer Vayne, bunch of others. Trundle fits the line better than you’d expect. A troll who hunts dragons with a bone club? Could be wrong here but that’s more interesting lore-wise than half the champions in the Dragon World roster.

5 chromas total. Amethyst is my pick, the purple tones against the dark armor give it this corrupted dragon hunter vibe that base doesnt have. Ruby leans full aggressive red, works if you want maximum “I am the jungle threat” energy in champ select. Pearl goes light and almost celestial which is a weird direction for Trundle but I’ve seen maybe 4 of these in my games all season so at least you’d stand out. (Random aside: the Catseye chroma with the gold tones would look incredible with a prestige border if Trundle ever gets one.)

Should you buy Dragonslayer Trundle?

Real verdict: if you play Trundle jungle or even Trundle top as a splitpush pick, this is the skin. Worldbreaker exists and Constable is funny but Dragonslayer Trundle is the only one that feels like a genuine upgrade to your gameplay experience. The VFX clarity on Q and E alone justifies locking this in for ranked.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. New VFX across the kit, solid recall, strong splash. Not overpriced. Spammed this in Diamond for two seasons straight and I keep coming back to it over everything else in his catalog. Trundle mains already know. If you’re climbing with the troll king this season and want one skin, Dragonslayer Trundle is the answer. S-tier Trundle cosmetic, no question.
