Pentakill Skins

All 6 skins in the Pentakill skinline. Browse splash art, chromas, and detailed reviews for every Pentakill skin in League of Legends.

Pentakill is one of those skinlines that just makes sense. Six champions forming a heavy metal band on the Rift, complete with instruments, stage outfits, and enough edge to make your screen shake. Been a fan of this line since I first saw Pentakill Karthus back in like season 2 or 3, and honestly the whole concept aged better than most things Riot put out in that era. Not gonna lie, hearing the actual Pentakill albums while running these skins in ranked hits different. The aesthetic is pure metal concert energy and it works because the champion picks actually fit.

What Makes Pentakill Stand Out From Other Skinlines

Kinda feels like Riot stumbled into something special with Pentakill. Most skinlines are visual themes first, lore second. Pentakill flipped that. The whole concept started as "what if these champions were in a metal band" and Riot literally made albums for it. Two full albums plus a third with the Lost Chapter series. That level of commitment to a skin concept is rare.

The visual identity is straightforward. Black leather, silver studs, flames, instruments replacing weapons. Mordekaiser on guitar. Sona on keyboard. Karthus as the vocalist. Olaf drumming with his axes. Kayle shredding. Yorick on bass. Every skin keeps the same dark palette with red and silver accents, so when you see two or three Pentakill skins in the same game (happened to me in an ARAM last week around midnight), the cohesion is obvious.

What ties it together visually is the concert stage energy. Splash arts feel like promo shots for an actual touring band. Compare that to something like Arcade where each skin could belong to a different game. Pentakill skins look like they share a dressing room. The color scheme stays dark with metallic highlights, fire effects where applicable, and this gritty industrial vibe that reads well on the Rift even at lower graphics settings.

Not sure if it's just me but the Pentakill skins also feel heavier in game. Like the animations carry more weight. Could be placebo from the aesthetic but Mordekaiser especially feels like hes swinging a real guitar instead of a mace. The silhouettes work because every champion in this line is already somewhat bulky or dramatic. No Teemo Pentakill skin, and thats probably for the best.

Compared to similar "music" skinlines like K/DA or True Damage, Pentakill goes harder on the fantasy element. K/DA is pop with glamour. True Damage is hip-hop streetwear. Pentakill is pure heavy metal and it doesnt try to be anything else. That commitment to a single genre makes it more memorable even if the skins themselves are technically simpler.

Best Pentakill Skins Worth Locking In

Pentakill Kayle. Full stop. The only Epic in the line at 1350 RP and it earns every point. This was part of Kayle's post-rework skin updates and the quality jump shows. The wings, the evolved forms, the fire effects on her abilities. Playing Pentakill Kayle at level 16 when she hits that final form is peak League fashion. Spammed this in Diamond for maybe 30 games straight last season and the VFX on her E autos never got old. Best Kayle skin if you don't count the Legendary tier options.

Pentakill Karthus is the iconic pick though. Something about Karthus as a death metal vocalist just works thematically. Hes already undead, already screaming, already channeling dark energy. The skin basically just gave him a microphone and said go. His ult with the Pentakill skin on feels like dropping the final note of a concert. Been running this one since season 4 I think. Maybe season 5. Point is it holds up despite being a 750 RP Standard skin.

Pentakill Mordekaiser deserves the third spot. Guitar Mordekaiser is the kind of concept that sells itself. Could be wrong here but I think this is actually one of Morde's most popular skins even after the rework. The guitar replacing his mace reads cleanly and his kit animations work with the rockstar fantasy. Pulled this out in a ranked game last Tuesday and my support typed "based skin choice" in chat. That tells you something.

Pentakill Sona is solid but less exciting. She already plays an instrument so giving her a keyboard is almost too obvious. Still looks good. The outfit change carries it more than any VFX work since these are mostly Standard tier skins without particle changes. Pentakill Olaf rounds out the top five with his drumstick axes. Fun concept, decent execution, nothing groundbreaking but nothing embarrassing either.

Pentakill Yorick is the quiet sleeper. Came later than the original batch, released in 2017. Yorick on bass guitar fits the band's lineup and his ghouls getting the metal treatment adds personality to his kit. (Random aside: I actually started playing Yorick because of this skin, ended up learning splitpush fundamentals and climbed from Plat to Diamond that season.) Not the flashiest pick but it completes the roster.

The Champion Roster and Who Fits

Six champions. Olaf, Kayle, Karthus, Sona, Mordekaiser, Yorick. Every single one makes thematic sense and thats rare for a Riot skinline. Usually you get at least one champion that feels shoehorned in for sales numbers. Real talk though, Pentakill avoided that completely.

Mordekaiser was basically born for this. Metal references are in his base design already. His name is literally a metal pun. Guitar Morde isn't a stretch, it's a natural evolution. Karthus as lead vocalist works because his whole kit is about channeling and projecting, which maps perfectly to a frontman screaming into a mic. The ult being the "final performance" that hits everyone on the map? Chef's kiss.

Sona on keys and Yorick on bass fill out the rhythm section. Sona's instrument swap is the most literal of the bunch since shes already a musician in base lore. Yorick bringing the low-end bass energy matches his slower, methodical playstyle in lane. Olaf on drums is hilarious and perfect. Dual axes become drumsticks and the berserker rage translates to drummer energy. Anyone whos seen a metal drummer live knows they play like they're trying to break something.

Kayle rounds it out as the lead guitarist and it works because post-rework Kayle has this ascending power fantasy. She starts humble and ends godlike. That's basically every guitar hero story. Who should Riot add next? Might be overthinking it but Viego could work as a brooding second vocalist. Sion as a roadie. Thresh with a chain-whip guitar. The line hasn't expanded since 2017 though (outside of Pentakill III which is technically a separate skinline), so maybe Riot considers the band complete.

Tier Breakdown and What You're Actually Paying

Five Standard skins. One Epic. That's the Pentakill lineup. Price range is 750 RP to 1350 RP. No Legendaries, no Ultimates, no Mythics. This is an old-school skinline from the era when Riot wasn't tiering everything at 1350 minimum.

The Standard skins at 750 RP are texture and model changes only. No new particles, no new sounds, no new voice lines. Honest value for the price. You're paying for the outfit swap and the thematic fantasy, not a complete visual overhaul. For mains who just want the metal aesthetic without dropping serious RP, these are solid budget picks.

Pentakill Kayle at 1350 RP is where the real quality jump happens. New particles, new recall animation, the full Epic treatment. If you're only buying one Pentakill skin, it should be Kayle. (Sidebar for anyone climbing with Kayle specifically: the level 11 and 16 form changes on this skin are some of the cleanest visual power spikes in the game.) The gap between 750 and 1350 is noticeable here but the 750 skins still hold up because the concept carries them. Not every skinline can say that.

Honestly the lack of Legendary skins in this line feels like a missed opportunity. Pentakill Karthus with full new VO as a death metal vocalist? That would sell. Pentakill Mordekaiser with guitar riff sound effects on every ability? Easy money. Riot went bigger with the Pentakill III: Lost Chapter series later, but the original six deserved at least one Legendary treatment. Maybe someday.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many Pentakill skins are there?

Six Pentakill skins total in the original line. Olaf, Kayle, Karthus, Sona, Mordekaiser, and Yorick. The first five dropped between 2010 and 2012, with Yorick joining later in 2017. There's also the separate Pentakill III: Lost Chapter line with additional skins, but thats technically a different skinline in the client.

What is the best Pentakill skin?

Pentakill Kayle by a wide margin. Only Epic tier skin in the line at 1350 RP, comes with new particles and a recall animation. The evolved forms look incredible with the metal aesthetic. If you want a Standard tier pick, Pentakill Karthus is the most iconic. Been spamming it in ranked for years and it still holds up.

Which champions have Pentakill skins?

Olaf on drums, Karthus on vocals, Mordekaiser on guitar, Sona on keyboard, Kayle on lead guitar, and Yorick on bass. Six champions forming a full metal band. Every pick makes sense thematically, which is rare for Riot skinlines honestly. No filler champions in this roster.

Does Pentakill have Legendary skins?

No Legendaries in the original Pentakill line. Five Standard skins at 750 RP and one Epic (Kayle) at 1350 RP. Feels like a missed opportunity if you ask me. Pentakill Karthus or Mordekaiser with full VO and custom sound effects would be an instant buy for most mains. The Lost Chapter series came closer but still capped at Epic.

When did the Pentakill skinline release?

Original batch dropped in 2010 with Karthus and the crew. Think it was one of the earliest themed skinlines Riot put out. Yorick joined the band in 2017, seven years later. The line spans from season 1 era to mid-season 7. Old school League through and through.

Are Pentakill skins worth buying?

At 750 RP for the Standard tier ones, yeah absolutely. Low investment, strong concept. Pentakill Kayle at 1350 RP is the premium option and worth every point if you play Kayle. The line won't give you new particles on most skins but the metal band fantasy carries hard. Good budget options for anyone who mains these champions.

Do Pentakill skins have chromas?

The original Pentakill skins don't have chromas. These launched before chromas were a thing in League, and Riot hasn't gone back to add them. Not surprising given the age of the line. If you want color variety with a metal theme, the Pentakill III: Lost Chapter skins have chroma options.

Will Riot make more Pentakill skins?

Maybe just my experience but I think the original Pentakill band is considered complete at six members. Riot already expanded the concept with Pentakill III: Lost Chapter as a separate skinline. Could see them doing a Pentakill IV event down the line with new champions but the original six-member roster probably stays as is. No leaks suggesting otherwise as of now.
