Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health | 200 | 2.67 g | 533 g |
| Base Health Regen % | 75 | 3 g | 225 g |
| Base Mana Regen % | 75 | 4 g | 300 g |
| Total stat value | 1058 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 1058 ÷ 400 = 265%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted, and neither are Gold Per 10 Seconds (no basic item sells this stat alone).

Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike is the poke mage’s pick among the League of Legends support quest upgrades in patch 26.21. It carries the shared block of 200 Health, 9 gold per 10 seconds and 75% Base Health and Mana Regen, plus Void Explosion, a passive that makes your ability damage on a champion burst into an extra area of magic damage. The ward active with 4 charges comes with it, as on every quest upgrade, and the only gold you ever spend on it is the 400 gold for the Atlas at minute zero.
What does Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike do?
It turns poke into more poke. Hit an enemy champion with an ability and a small explosion of magic damage goes off on them, which also catches anyone standing close.
Riot’s data text leaves the damage number out, and the tooltip in game shows a base amount that scales with the target’s maximum Health, so it hurts tanks a little more than it hurts squishy targets. In practice the passive adds a steady tax to every Brand Q, every Zyra plant hit and every Xerath poke, and across a laning phase that tax is worth far more than it looks on paper. The catch is the cooldown. Riot’s text does not list it either, but the explosion cannot fire on every spell of a damage-over-time champion, so a mage who spams the same target gains less per cast than a mage who lands one big ability per trade. Is the area damage big enough to matter? On a wave, yes, sometimes it finishes low minions for your carry; in a team fight it is a bonus, not a plan.
Is it gold efficient?
Wildly: 265%. The 200 Health, 75% Base Health Regen and 75% Base Mana Regen come to 1,058 gold by the reference prices, on a 400 gold item that also prints 9 gold every 10 seconds.
To be fair, every quest upgrade posts the identical figure, so the efficiency does not help you pick. What you are really choosing is whether your support wants damage, a shield, sustain, chase speed or a Spellblade. Honestly, the Realmspike is the least subtle of the five: it does nothing for your allies directly, it just makes you hit harder, and for a mage support that is usually the right kind of help.
How do you unlock Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike?
Finish the support quest. The World Atlas you buy at the start tracks gold earned from poking enemy champions and from standing near minions your laner kills, and when the counter fills, the shop shows five upgrade options, free of charge. One click and the Atlas becomes the Realmspike. The decision locks for the match (no refund, no swap at the next recall, no matter how the lane went). It builds from nothing and into nothing, and the sell price of 160 gold is a trivia answer rather than a decision anyone makes.
Who should take it?
Mage supports and anyone whose job is to poke: Brand, Zyra, Xerath, Vel'Koz, Lux, Swain, Karma when played aggressively, and Senna if the lane is about damage rather than peel. A Morgana or a Neeko who mostly roots and then steps back loses little by taking it, but Solstice Sleigh gives them more. Who should avoid it? Tanks, because their abilities are for engage rather than damage, and enchanters, since a Soraka or a Janna hits champions with abilities rarely enough that the passive barely fires. Real talk, the Realmspike on a Thresh is a sign that someone clicked the wrong icon.
One nuance worth knowing. The passive counts ability damage, not on-hit or basic attacks, so a Senna who wants to poke with autos and build Spellblade damage does better with Bloodsong, while a Senna who leads trades with her Q belongs on the Realmspike.
How has Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike changed over the patches?
Barely at all. Three entries since it appeared in patch 14.1:
- Patches 14.2 and 14.21: Effect text changed, both times to the wording and numbers of Void Explosion.
- Patch 26.1: Gold Per 10 Seconds raised from 5 to 9, the same income bump every support upgrade got that patch.
For what it’s worth, the stat block has not shifted by a single point in that time. The passive was tuned twice in its first year and then left alone, which suggests Riot found the number it wanted fairly quickly (mage supports did not complain, and that is usually the tell). The LoL items database keeps the other four quest items next to this one if you want to compare their histories.
When should you choose it?
When the quest completes on a champion whose abilities are the main way you touch the enemy. Decide in champion select, not at the shop. If you are unsure whether your pick is a poke support or something else, the champion pages explain each kit, and the guide to LoL roles covers what a support is meant to do over a game, which is the frame that makes Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike either the obvious choice or the wrong one.
FAQ
How much does Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike cost?
Only the 400 gold of the World Atlas. The upgrade itself is free when the quest completes. Sell value is 160 gold.
What stats does it give?
200 Health plus 9 gold per 10 seconds, with 75% Base Health Regen and 75% Base Mana Regen.
How does Void Explosion work?
Dealing ability damage to an enemy champion triggers an explosion on them that deals magic damage in a small area around the target.
Does it trigger on basic attacks?
No. Only ability damage counts, so auto attack supports should look at Bloodsong instead.
Does it place wards?
Yes, the active holds 4 charges of invisible Stealth Wards, like the rest of the quest line.
Can you change to another upgrade later?
No. The choice is permanent for that game.
