Gold efficiency
| Stat | Amount | Gold per point | Gold value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Health | 200 | 2.67 g | 533 g |
| Base Health Regen % | 75 | 3 g | 225 g |
| Base Mana Regen % | 75 | 4 g | 300 g |
| Total stat value | 1058 g |
Gold efficiency = stat value ÷ item cost = 1058 ÷ 400 = 265%. The gold per point comes from basic items of the same patch (for example, Long Sword: 35 g per Attack Damage). Passives and actives are not counted, and neither are Gold Per 10 Seconds (no basic item sells this stat alone).

We compare cost and stats patch by patch in Riot's Data Dragon files. "Effect text changed" means the passive or active wording changed in that patch.
Bloodsong is the Spellblade upgrade of the support quest item in League of Legends: 200 Health, 75% Base Health Regen, 75% Base Mana Regen and 9 gold every 10 seconds in patch 26.21, plus a Spellblade passive and an active that places invisible wards from 4 charges. You do not buy it in the shop; it is one of the five forms the World Atlas can take once the quest is complete, and it costs nothing beyond the 400 gold you paid at the start.
What does Bloodsong do?
It pays you to hit people after casting. Spellblade means that after you use an ability, your next basic attack deals bonus physical damage on hit, and if that attack lands on a champion, they take increased damage from every source for 4 seconds.
That second half is the point of the item. The bonus damage on the attack itself is modest (Riot’s data text does not state the amount, and the shop tooltip shows separate melee and ranged values), but the damage amplification is a buff your whole team benefits from, so the right habit is to tag the enemy carry just before your jungler or marksman unloads. Does it work from range? Sure, on Senna or Ashe support it procs on every poke, though the melee version hits harder. The ward active is the same on all five quest upgrades: 4 charges of invisible Stealth Wards that refill in the fountain, which is the reason supports no longer buy a separate ward item.
Is Bloodsong gold efficient?
By a mile: 265%, before the passive or the income is counted. 200 Health, 75% Base Health Regen and 75% Base Mana Regen add up to 1,058 gold of stats against a 400 gold price.
The gold per 10 seconds has no entry in the reference table, so it sits outside that number, and in a long game it is worth more than everything else on the item combined (the catch is that you only get it by finishing the quest, which takes most of the laning phase). Thing is, every support item in the quest line shares the same stat block, so the efficiency figure tells you nothing about which one to pick. The passive does.
How do you get it?
Start the game with a World Atlas, earn gold through its quest by poking champions and sharing minion kills with your laner, and when the quest completes the shop offers you a choice of five upgrades. Bloodsong is the one for supports who like to auto attack between spells.
Nothing builds from it and nothing builds into it. You can sell it back for 160 gold. Honestly, nobody does that on purpose (we have seen it happen by misclick, and the regret is immediate), since a full-build support still gets more from the wards and income than from any item that fits in the slot.
Who should pick Bloodsong?
Supports whose pattern is cast, hit, cast, hit. That means Pyke, Thresh, Nautilus, Leona, Rakan and Braum on the melee side, and Senna, Ashe, Pantheon and most mage supports with a cheap, spammable spell on the ranged side. Enchanters usually take Dream Maker or Celestial Opposition instead because they rarely trade attacks, and a tank who intends to stand still and absorb damage gets more from the Blessing of the Mountain shield. In practice the question is simple: will you land a basic attack on a champion within a second or two of casting, most trades? If yes, this is the pick. Easy call.
A common mistake is choosing it on a champion who has nothing to cast cheaply. Spellblade needs an ability cast to arm it, and a Blitzcrank who holds his hook for the right moment arms the passive maybe once a minute, which is a poor use of the slot compared with a shield or a slow that works on its own.
How has Bloodsong changed over the patches?
Five entries since it arrived in patch 14.1, alongside the rest of the World Atlas line:
- Patches 14.2, 14.7, 14.21 and 25.S1.3: Effect text changed, as Riot adjusted the Spellblade damage and the melee and ranged split.
- Patch 26.1: Gold Per 10 Seconds 5 → 9.
Funny enough, the stats on the item have never moved in all that time. The income almost doubled at the start of the 2026 season, which affected every quest upgrade equally and made supports noticeably richer by the twenty minute mark, but the Health and regen on Bloodsong are the same numbers it launched with. The LoL items database keeps the current figures for the other four upgrades beside this one.
When should you take it?
At the moment the quest completes, if your champion fits the cast-and-hit pattern described above; the choice is final, so decide during loading, not in the shop. Not sure yet which style your champion plays? The pages for individual champions cover what each one does in lane, and the guide to LoL roles explains how a support’s job differs from the rest of the map before you ever have to pick Bloodsong over its siblings.
FAQ
How much does Bloodsong cost?
Nothing beyond the 400 gold World Atlas you start with. It appears as a free upgrade choice when the support quest completes, and it sells for 160 gold.
What stats does it give?
200 Health, 75% Base Health Regen, 75% Base Mana Regen and 9 gold per 10 seconds.
How does the Spellblade passive work?
Casting an ability arms it; the following basic attack carries bonus physical damage on hit, and a champion hit that way takes increased damage for 4 seconds.
Does it still place wards?
Yes. The active holds 4 charges of invisible Stealth Wards, the same as every other quest upgrade.
Can you switch to a different upgrade later?
No. Once you choose Bloodsong the other four options are gone for that game.
Is it good on ranged supports?
It works, with smaller melee-style values replaced by the ranged ones. Champions such as Senna and Ashe proc it often enough to make it worthwhile.
