Nashor’s Tooth is a 2,900 gold on-hit item in League of Legends for AP champions who attack a lot: 80 Ability Power, 50% Attack Speed and 15 Ability Haste in patch 26.21. Its Icathian Bite passive adds bonus magic damage to every attack, and the stat line alone is worth well over the price at 124% gold efficiency.

What does Icathian Bite do?

Each basic attack lands with extra magic damage tacked on. Riot’s data text doesn’t give the formula (it scales with your Ability Power in the tooltip), so the client is where you read the current number.

The design is simple and strong. Ability Power makes each hit hurt more, Attack Speed makes the hits come faster, and the passive turns both into extra magic damage per attack. For an AP champion whose damage comes partly from basic attacks, that’s a multiplier on everything they already do. Champions who never attack? They get the Ability Power and haste and leave the rest unused.

Because it’s on-hit, it also stacks neatly with other on-hit effects in your kit or build. In practice, that’s what puts it at the core of AP on-hit builds.

Is Nashor’s Tooth gold efficient?

Very. The three stats are worth 3,600 gold for a 2,900 gold item, which works out to 124%.

By stat: 80 Ability Power brings 1,600 gold at 20 per point, 50% Attack Speed brings 1,250 at 25 per percent, and 15 Ability Haste brings 750 at 50 per point. That’s a 700 gold surplus before the passive. Honestly, that’s a lot of spare value on stats alone (the catch being that you need to use all three stats to collect it).

Which items build into it?

Recurve Bow (700 gold), Blasting Wand (850 gold) and Fiendish Codex (850 gold), plus a 500 gold combine. Recurve Bow first gives Attack Speed and its own small on-hit passive (called Sting in Riot’s data), which helps in lane. Blasting Wand, with 45 Ability Power, is the pure damage step.

Nothing builds out of the finished item, so the 500 gold combine is the last thing it asks of you.

How has it changed?

Riot’s data has it from 2013. Ability Haste was added in 2023, and the Ability Power has been trimmed since:

  • Patch 13.6: cost 3,000 → 3,200 gold, Ability Haste added at 15.
  • Patch 14.1: cost 3,200 → 3,000 gold, Ability Power 100 → 90.
  • Patch 14.19: Ability Power 90 → 80.
  • Patch 25.10: cost 3,000 → 2,900 gold.

So the price has come down step by step while the Ability Power dropped from 100 to 80. To be fair, it’s still one of the most efficient AP items going, just a little less explosive than its 2023 version.

Who should build Nashor’s Tooth?

AP champions whose damage relies on basic attacks: AP on-hit carries, some AP junglers, and a few AP fighters. It’s usually a first or second item for those champions.

Who should skip it? Mages who cast from range and rarely attack; for burst between spells, Lich Bane fits better. An attack-based champion who needs Magic Resist against mages might take Wit’s End instead, since it shares the on-hit idea. Look, if your champion’s damage graph is half attacks and half Ability Power, Nashor’s Tooth is the item built for that split.
