Crystalline Bracer is the Health and regeneration component for tanks in League of Legends: 200 Health and 100% Base Health Regen for 800 gold in patch 26.21, with no passive. It is a Ruby Crystal and a Rejuvenation Bead joined for a 100 gold fee, and it builds into exactly two items, Heartsteel and Warmog’s Armor, both of which are about having more Health than anyone else on the map.

What does Crystalline Bracer do?

It makes you fatter and heals you between fights. That is all. For a tank on the first back, it is plenty.

The 200 Health is the same amount a Ruby Crystal gives, so the Bead and the fee buy the regen, and regen is the stat people misjudge most. Doubling your base Health Regen sounds small until you count the minutes spent standing in lane after a bad trade; a top laner with a Bracer walks back into a fight at a hundred more Health than one without it, every single time, and over a twenty minute lane that is several potions nobody had to buy. Does the regen matter in a fight? No. Far too slow for that. It matters in the thirty seconds after one, which is where top lane is won or lost before the first tower falls.

Is Crystalline Bracer gold efficient?

Slightly better than full price: 104%. At 2.67 gold per point of Health and 3 gold per percent of base regen, the two stats are worth 833 gold against the 800 gold you spend, so the 100 gold combine fee pays for itself and a bit more.

That is rare for a component with no passive. Honestly, it is the reason the Bracer is a comfortable buy on a short recall even when neither finished item is close: you lose nothing by holding it, the sell price is 560 gold, and the regen starts working the moment you walk out of the fountain. Thing is, the number is only slightly above full, so the item is efficient without being a bargain. Nobody buys it for the math.

What does it build from and into?

A Ruby Crystal at 400 gold and a Rejuvenation Bead at 200 gold, plus 100 gold (the cheapest fee in this part of the shop). On a bad back you can grab the Bead alone, since it is the piece that shows up in the fewest other recipes, and finish the Bracer next time.

Two items come out of it: Heartsteel, the stacking Health item for front-liners who take hits all game, and Warmog’s Armor, which turns a big Health pool into out-of-combat regeneration that lets a tank skip recalls entirely. Both are legendary purchases that define a build, so a Bracer in your inventory is a declaration of intent (the enemy jungler knows you are going to be a wall by fifteen minutes). The LoL items database has both with their current prices.

Who buys it?

Tanks heading for Heartsteel, which is most of them: Sion, Ornn, Malphite, Tahm Kench, K’Sante, Cho'Gath and Zac on the way to a stacking build, and Mundo or Volibear when a Warmog’s is the plan. Top lane and jungle are the usual homes, with the odd support, say an Alistar or a Nautilus, picking it up when the finished item is Heartsteel. Who skips it? Bruisers who want damage early (a Phage or a Sheen does more for a Darius than regen does), and anyone whose tank build runs through Bami’s Cinder or Chain Vest first, which is a different branch of the same tree. Real talk, it is the least exciting item in the shop. It is also one of the most bought.

How has Crystalline Bracer changed over the patches?

Two entries across more than a decade in the data, since it first appeared in patch 4.20:

  • Patch 5.22: Cost 600 → 650 gold.
  • Patch 12.4: Cost 650 → 800 gold, Base Health Regen 50% → 100%.

For what it’s worth, the 12.4 change is the one that made the item what it is now: Riot doubled the regen and raised the price to match, turning a filler component into a deliberate sustain buy for top laners. Before that it was a thing you bought because Warmog’s needed it (and, to be fair, because nothing else in the slot was cheaper). The Health has never moved, which is unusual for an item that old, and the stability says Riot is happy with where the tank build tree starts. Funny enough, the item has been in the game longer than most of the champions who buy it.

When should you buy it?

On the first back of a Heartsteel or Warmog’s game, when the lane has turned into a slugging match and you keep leaving fights at a third Health. If the lane is calm, a Ruby Crystal alone and the gold toward boots is often the better use of the trip. Not sure whether your champion is a Heartsteel tank or a bruiser who wants damage first? The guide to LoL roles explains the difference between the two top lane styles, and only one of them starts with Crystalline Bracer.
