Viktor ARAM Build and Guide

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.

The Viktor ARAM build we’d use is Malignance, Liandry’s Torment, Rabadon’s Deathcap and Void Staff on Sorcerer’s Shoes. It turns Arcane Storm into a zone nobody can stand in and keeps Hextech Ray hitting the whole enemy line. Riot nerfs him here: 95% damage dealt, 105% damage taken.

Kit-based picks. No win rates.

How is Viktor changed in ARAM?

ARAM modifier Viktor
Damage dealt 95%
Damage taken 105%

He hits for 5% less and suffers 5% more. Small numbers, sure, but both of them push in the same direction, which is why a squishy mage with no dash actually feels the difference over a long game. Why would Riot bother? A mage whose ray pierces every enemy in a line gets a perfect target on a map with one lane, and his ultimate is a storm that keeps ticking on anyone nearby. The nerf mostly shows up when a diver reaches him a little earlier than he’d like.

Why is Viktor good on the Howling Abyss?

Because Glorious Evolution gets fed constantly. The patch 26.21 kit:

  • Glorious Evolution (passive): kills grant Hex Fragments, and each 100 fragments augment an ability, ultimate last.
  • Siphon Power (Q): magic damage on one unit, a shield, and an empowered next attack. Cooldown 9/8/7/6/5.
  • Gravity Field (W): slows everyone inside and stuns enemies who linger. Cooldown 17/16/15/14/13.
  • Hextech Ray (E): a beam fired in a line that damages all enemies it crosses. Cooldown 12/11/10/9/8.
  • Arcane Storm (R): magic damage on cast, channel interruption, then periodic damage to everything nearby while he steers it. Cooldown 120/100/80.

Hex Fragments come from kills, and ARAM is basically nonstop kills, so Viktor reaches his augments far sooner than he would in a Rift lane. The augmented Hextech Ray leaves an explosion behind it. The augmented storm moves 25% faster and grows each time a champion it damaged dies, which happens a lot in a five-on-five brawl that never really stops. Gravity Field, meanwhile, is easy value in a narrow lane where enemies have little room to walk out (the bridge is not wide). It’s a scaling champion on a map that speeds up scaling. Nice deal.

What items does Viktor need in ARAM?

Ability Power, Ability Haste on the ultimate, and something that punishes groups standing in his zones. Here’s the order (built for the storm, mostly).

Malignance opens. Scorn gives 20 Ultimate Ability Haste, so Arcane Storm returns more often, and Hatefog burns the ground under every champion the storm damages while shaving their Magic Resist. You also get 90 Ability Power and 600 Mana, since you can’t go back to refill.

Liandry’s Torment second. Torment burns enemies for a slice of their max Health every time a damaging ability lands, which means tanks hate it. Its second passive, Suffering, keeps ramping his damage while he stays in combat with champions (and nobody leaves combat on this map).

Then Rabadon’s Deathcap for the 30% Ability Power boost from Magical Opus, and Void Staff with 40% Magic Penetration when the enemy front line buys Magic Resist. Sorcerer’s Shoes on the way. To be fair, Zhonya’s Hourglass is a reasonable fourth item when assassins keep jumping him.

How should you play Viktor in fights?

  • Drop Gravity Field where the enemy wants to walk. Lingering inside it means a stun.
  • Fire Hextech Ray through the longest line of champions you can find.
  • Cast Arcane Storm on a channel. It interrupts channelled spells on cast.
  • Steer the storm onto whoever is lowest, since kills make an augmented storm bigger and longer.
  • Keep Siphon Power for the shield when someone dives you.

What do no-recall shopping and Mark mean for Viktor?

You only shop on death, so the first trip back should finish Malignance or get close to it. Health relics on the map are his only healing; there is none in the kit, and with 105% damage taken a lost poke war costs him more than most mages.

The snowball (Mark) gives a dash onto a champion it hits. Honestly, Viktor rarely wants that, because walking into five enemies is not his job. Summoners are locked once the game loads, so Flash and a defensive spell are the safer pair. In practice, is there a case for Mark? Maybe in a team full of tanks who need a follow-up.

Is Viktor a strong ARAM champion?

Yes. Fast augments and a lane full of grouped targets outweigh the 95% damage dealt. Teams with lots of hard engage are his problem.

Playing against him in mid on Summoner’s Rift instead? Read the Viktor counters guide. Stats and prices for everything above are in the LoL items list, and his cosmetics are gathered on the Viktor skins page.

Long story short, the Viktor ARAM build is Malignance, Liandry’s Torment, Rabadon’s Deathcap and Void Staff, with augments arriving early and Arcane Storm steered into every grouped fight.

FAQ

What are Viktor’s ARAM modifiers?

Damage dealt is 95% and damage taken is 105%, according to wiki data for patch 26.21.

Why does Viktor augment faster in ARAM?

Hex Fragments come from kills, and ARAM fights produce kills constantly. Every 100 fragments upgrade one of his abilities.

Which item should Viktor buy first?

Malignance. It adds Ultimate Ability Haste, and its Hatefog passive burns the ground under champions hit by Arcane Storm and lowers their Magic Resist.

What does Viktor’s augmented ultimate do?

The Arcane Storm moves 25% faster, and when champions die after taking its damage, the storm grows and lasts longer.

Which summoner spells work for Viktor on the Howling Abyss?

Flash and a defensive spell. Mark dashes to a champion hit by the snowball, which rarely suits a mage who wants distance.
