Zed ARAM Build and Guide
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.
Zed gets four ARAM buffs: he deals 105% damage, takes 95% damage, regenerates energy at 120%, and has 120% tenacity. That energy regen buff is huge. It’s the difference between running dry mid-fight and actually getting a second rotation off.
Item picks here are based on what each item does this patch, not win-rate stats.

How is Zed changed in ARAM?
| ARAM modifier | Zed |
|---|---|
| Damage dealt | 105% |
| Damage taken | 95% |
| Energy regen | 120% |
| Tenacity | 120% |
Four buffs. The damage numbers are modest on their own, but 120% energy regen changes Zed’s whole teamfight pattern. Ever run out of energy mid-combo? That doesn’t happen nearly as much with 120% regen. The tenacity is underrated too, it shaves enough CC duration that you can actually W back out after ulting instead of dying in a stun chain.
How does Zed’s kit work on the Howling Abyss?
Zed is built to delete one person. ARAM asks him to do that inside a packed lane with no flanking angle and five enemies right there. Sounds bad, right? In practice, he does better than you’d expect. Razor Shuriken hits multiple enemies every cast because they’re grouped, and Living Shadow lets him poke from range.
- Contempt for the Weak (passive): bonus magic damage on attacks against low-health targets.
- Razor Shuriken: Zed and his shadows each throw a shuriken that damages every enemy hit. Five grouped champions means more hits per cast.
- Living Shadow: the shadow copies his abilities, and he can swap to its position. It’s his gap-closer and his escape (sometimes both in the same fight).
- Shadow Slash: AoE damage around Zed and his shadows. Enemies hit by the shadow’s copy are slowed.
- Death Mark: Zed becomes untargetable, dashes to a champion, and marks them. After 3 seconds the mark pops, repeating a portion of all damage he dealt during that window. Rank 1 cooldown is 120 seconds.
Thing is, W + Q poke from range means he’s not just standing there between Death Mark cooldowns.
What should a Zed ARAM build focus on?
Lethality and Attack Damage first, armor penetration later. Youmuu’s Ghostblade (55 Attack Damage, 18 Lethality, 4% Move Speed) gives out-of-combat Move Speed through its Haunt passive and an active burst of speed with Ghosting. In a lane with no side paths, that speed is how he reaches a backline target before they react. Edge of Night (50 Attack Damage, 15 Lethality, 250 Health) adds a spell shield that blocks the next enemy ability.
For longer games, Serylda’s Grudge (45 Attack Damage, 35% Armor Penetration, 15 Ability Haste) cuts through stacked armor, and its Bitter Cold passive slows enemies below 50% health by 30% when abilities hit them. That slow helps finish kills that would otherwise walk away. Profane Hydra (55 Attack Damage, 18 Lethality, 10 Ability Haste) is the grouped-fight pickup: its Cleave passive hits nearby enemies on every attack, and the Heretical Cleave active deals AoE around him. Full item stats are in our items database.
How do you play Zed on the Howling Abyss?
- Poke with W + Q. Cast Living Shadow forward and throw Razor Shuriken from both positions. This is your main damage until you commit with Death Mark.
- If the shadow is in range, Shadow Slash hits from its position and slows. Free damage.
- Wait for low health before ulting. Death Mark repeats damage dealt during its 3-second window, and Contempt for the Weak adds bonus damage on low-health targets. Diving a full-health tank wastes both.
- Decide fast after Death Mark. Either the target dies and you stay, or you swap back out. Hesitating gets you killed.
- Relics are your sustain. You’re melee and squishy, and health relics on the map are the only healing between fights.
How do shopping and Mark change the plan?
You can’t recall in ARAM. You buy at the fountain before the game starts and each time you respawn, so plan your next purchase while you’re still alive. Honestly, dying on Zed isn’t always terrible if you’ve banked enough gold to finish a lethality item (components aren’t going to one-shot anyone).
Mark throws a snowball. If it hits, you dash to the target, giving Zed an extra gap-closer on top of Living Shadow and Death Mark. You pick it before the game loads and it stays fixed for the whole match. A landed snowball into Death Mark covers a huge distance and gives the enemy almost no time to react. Miss the snowball, though, and you’re stuck waiting on Living Shadow’s 20-second base cooldown to re-engage. Our Zed counters guide covers which matchups punish that kind of committed all-in.
Is Zed good in ARAM?
Situationally. He gets four buffs, can poke safely with shadows, and Death Mark deletes a carry when it lands. Sure, he needs the right moment, and teams with heavy CC or shields can shut him down before the mark pops. If the enemy rolls mostly squishy ranged champions, Zed ARAM games go well. Tanky lineups with peel? Not so much.
Nobody can recall here, so the 120% energy regen buff matters even more because it keeps him throwing abilities when he’d normally be completely tapped out. His skins are on the Zed page, and the champion guide hub has ARAM breakdowns for other champions you might roll.
For what it’s worth, every zed aram game follows the same script: poke with shadows until someone drops low, then Death Mark them.
FAQ
Is Zed buffed in ARAM?
Yes. He deals 105% damage, takes 95% damage, has 120% energy regen, and 120% tenacity, according to the League of Legends Wiki’s ARAM data.
What is Zed’s best poke ability?
Razor Shuriken (Q) combined with Living Shadow (W). The shadow throws its own shuriken, so Zed hits from range without committing to a fight.
Does Death Mark work well in ARAM?
It works best on targets already below half health. The mark repeats a portion of damage dealt during its 3-second window, so more damage in means more damage out.
Should you take Mark on Zed?
Yes. Mark adds a long-range gap-closer to a champion who already has dashes from Living Shadow and Death Mark.
Is this build based on win rates?
No. We picked items based on what they actually do in patch 26.21, not win-rate stats.
