Ambessa ARAM Build and Guide
Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.
An Ambessa ARAM build is a skirmisher path: Eclipse, Black Cleaver and Sundered Sky so every Drakehound’s Step dash leads into a shielded, healing trade. Her ARAM entry? 100% damage taken, which is no change, so she plays her full kit.
Energy instead of Mana, a dash after every spell and a long-range pick ultimate: that patch 26.21 kit shaped the list. Win rates weren’t used.

How is Ambessa changed in ARAM?
| ARAM modifier | Ambessa |
|---|---|
| Damage taken | 100% |
She isn’t (which surprised us a little). The single entry, damage taken, reads 100%, which is the same as on Summoner’s Rift, and there’s no damage, healing or haste line at all. That puts her in a small group of champions who play exactly as designed here. So the question is how her kit handles a single lane full of enemies, and the answer is mostly well (with one catch, covered below).
Why does Ambessa fit the Howling Abyss?
Her abilities hit areas, and Public Execution picks the farthest target in a line. Riot’s patch 26.21 data:
- Drakehound’s Step (passive): an attack or move command during a cast adds a short dash afterward, empowering her next attack and refunding Energy.
- Cunning Sweep / Sundering Slam (Q): a semicircle sweep with bonus blade damage; a hit unlocks a follow-up slam in a line with bonus damage on the first enemy. Cooldown 14/13/12/11/10.
- Repudiation (W): a shield and a brief brace, then a slam around her that grows if she blocked non-minion damage. Cooldown 18/17/16/15/14.
- Lacerate (E): a whip around her that damages and slows, with a second strike if she dashes out of it. Cooldown 13/12/11/10/9.
- Public Execution (R): a blink to the farthest enemy champion in a chosen line, a suppression, then a slam that damages and stuns. Cooldown 130/115/100.
Public Execution is the standout. It blinks to the farthest enemy champion in a line, and on a single lane, the farthest champion is usually the backline carry hiding behind four teammates. Repudiation also benefits: it hits harder if she blocked non-minion damage while bracing, and in ARAM there’s always non-minion damage flying at her. The sweep and Lacerate both hit groups. The catch is the follow-through. After she blinks to the backline, she’s alone among five enemies, and her escape tools are short dashes.
What should an Ambessa ARAM build focus on?
Attack Damage with Ability Haste, shields and healing from items, and resistances. She runs on Energy, so Mana items are wasted. Four items and boots.
Eclipse first, for 60 Attack Damage and 15 Ability Haste. Ever Rising Moon shields her for 2 seconds after she hits a champion with 2 separate attacks or abilities within 2 seconds, and with an ability plus an empowered attack from Drakehound’s Step, she triggers it almost every trade.
Black Cleaver second, for Armor shred on the tanks she has to chew through. Carve stacks on physical damage, up to 5 times, and Fervor adds Move Speed after physical damage, a small bonus on top of her dashes. Why Health on an assassin-style fighter? Because she ends up in the middle of five people, and 400 extra Health (plus some haste) buys her the seconds she needs.
Sundered Sky third. Lightshield Strike makes her first attack against a champion a critical strike that restores Health, and after Public Execution, that first attack lands on the carry she just slammed. That’s healing at the exact moment she’s most exposed (and a crit, which doesn’t hurt).
The fourth slot is defensive. Death’s Dance spreads part of incoming damage over 3 seconds and cleanses it when a champion she damaged dies, which suits a dive. Maw of Malmortius gives 40 Magic Resist and a magic shield when she drops low. Boots: Plated Steelcaps or Mercury’s Treads, depending on what the enemy throws at her.
How do you play Ambessa on the Howling Abyss?
- Use Public Execution on the carry at the back. It targets the farthest enemy champion in your chosen line.
- Brace with Repudiation when the poke starts. Blocking non-minion damage during the brace makes the slam hit harder.
- Dash after every cast. Drakehound’s Step refunds Energy and empowers the next attack, so it keeps her combo going.
- Sweep, then slam. A Cunning Sweep hit unlocks Sundering Slam, which deals bonus damage to the first enemy in its line.
- Don’t ult until your team can follow. The blink puts her next to the farthest champion, usually in the middle of their team.
How do shopping and Mark work for Ambessa?
There’s no recall on this map. The fountain sells items at the start and after each death, and Eclipse components go first, since the shield helps from the first finished item. The lane’s Health relics top her up between fights, though Sundered Sky eventually covers some of that.
Choose summoners with care, since there’s no changing them later. Mark lets you dash to a champion your snowball hits, which gives Ambessa one more way to reach the backline besides her ultimate. Worth taking? Honestly, yes, more often than not, since the ultimate is a long cooldown and Mark comes back much faster.
Is Ambessa good in ARAM?
Yes. With 100% damage taken and no other modifiers, she plays her normal kit, and Public Execution’s farthest-target blink is excellent on a single lane. To be fair, diving the backline alone is risky, so she works best with a team that follows up. Long story short, she’s a pick tool with a lot of damage behind it.
Five mid laners who make her life hard on the Rift are in the Ambessa counters guide. Our guide to LoL roles explains the mid lane, every item above has its stats in the LoL items database, and the Ambessa skins page lists her outfits.
Put simply, the Ambessa ARAM build is Eclipse, Black Cleaver, Sundered Sky and Death’s Dance or Maw, and the plan is to execute their carry and dash out of the crowd.
FAQ
Is Ambessa buffed or nerfed in ARAM?
Neither. The Wiki’s patch 26.21 data lists only 100% damage taken for her, which is no change.
What items does the Ambessa ARAM build use?
Eclipse into Black Cleaver into Sundered Sky, then Death’s Dance or Maw of Malmortius for defense. Boots are Plated Steelcaps or Mercury’s Treads.
Who should Ambessa use Public Execution on?
The ultimate blinks to the farthest enemy champion in the chosen line, so it naturally targets the backline carry when aimed down the lane.
Does Ambessa need Mana items?
No. Her abilities use Energy, and Drakehound’s Step refunds Energy after each dash, so Mana items don’t help her.
How was this build chosen?
We read Ambessa’s patch 26.21 abilities and picked items that reward her dash-and-attack pattern and protect her after the ultimate. No win-rate data was used.
