Veigar ARAM Build and Guide

Updated for patch 26.20. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.

A Veigar ARAM build has to work around a nerf: in ARAM, Veigar deals 90% damage and takes 110% damage. He still fits the mode, because his passive grows every time a spell hits an enemy champion, and in a single lane there is almost always a champion to hit.

Item suggestions here are editorial and based on what each item does in the current patch. We don’t use win-rate data.

How is Veigar changed in ARAM?

ARAM modifier Veigar
Damage dealt 90%
Damage taken 110%

Both numbers work against him. He deals less and takes more, so his stacks and positioning have to carry the difference.

Why does Veigar still fit the Howling Abyss?

  • Phenomenal Evil Power: grows with every spell that hits an enemy champion, and ARAM is constant spell contact.
  • Baleful Strike: permanent Ability Power from units it kills, and the wave is always there.
  • Dark Matter: an area blast whose cooldown shrinks as his passive grows.
  • Event Horizon: a cage that stuns enemies who cross its edge, very hard to avoid in a narrow lane.
  • Primordial Burst: a finisher that hits harder the lower the target’s health.

What should a Veigar ARAM build focus on?

Ability Power and survival. Rabadon’s Deathcap raises total AP by 30%, which stacks with everything his passive gives him. Zhonya’s Hourglass (Ability Power and Armor) puts him in stasis for 2.5 seconds, which buys enough time for your team to peel when someone dives you at 110% incoming damage. Luden’s Echo (100 AP, 600 Mana) procs extra magic damage on your spells, so your poke hits that much harder between all-ins.

You need at least one defensive item, because ARAM keeps him in range of enemies all game and there is no backing off to a side lane.

How do you play Veigar on the Howling Abyss?

  • Last-hit with Q. Every unit it kills gives permanent Ability Power.
  • Cage the lane. Event Horizon in a narrow lane cuts off both engages and escapes because there is nowhere to sidestep.
  • Hit champions with W. Every champion hit grows his passive and shortens Dark Matter’s cooldown.
  • Save R for low targets. Primordial Burst deals more the lower their health.

How do shopping and Mark change the plan?

Two ARAM rules shape every game. You can’t recall to buy items, so you shop at the fountain at the start and each time you respawn (plan the next item before you die, not after). Health relics in the lane are the other way to recover, since there is no going back to base to heal. And the mode’s summoner spell, Mark, throws a snowball that lets you dash to the target it hits.

Veigar doesn’t need to reach anyone, so Mark is optional for him; a defensive summoner spell often fits better at 110% damage taken. You pick it before the game loads, and it stays fixed for the whole match. Either way, that choice matters as much as the first item.

What do those numbers mean in a fight?

How much does the nerf cost him? A combo that deals 1,000 damage on the Rift deals 900 in ARAM, and a 1,000-damage burst aimed at him lands as 1,100. That second number is the dangerous one (a combo that would leave him alive on the Rift can kill him here).

In practice, stacking closes that gap faster than you’d expect. Five champions are always in front of you, so every W and Q lands passive stacks you would never get this quickly on the Rift. The wave is always right there too, so Baleful Strike keeps feeding him permanent AP on top.

Who is hardest for him there? Champions who resist magic damage, like Kassadin, and anyone who can reach him before Event Horizon is ready. Our counters page has the full list.

Is Veigar good in ARAM?

Honestly, yes, despite the nerf, because the mode feeds his stacking. The catch is his fragility: at 110% damage taken, getting caught is worse than in normal games. For the Summoner’s Rift side, see our Veigar counters guide. His skins are on the Veigar skins page, and items have stats and history in our LoL items database.

A good Veigar ARAM game comes down to farming stacks without dying early and then dropping the cage that wins the deciding fight.
