Malphite ARAM Build and Guide

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability details come from Riot’s official game data for this patch; ARAM balance numbers come from the League of Legends Wiki’s champion data.

A Malphite ARAM build works around a nerf, not a buff. Malphite deals 90% damage and takes 110% damage in ARAM. The kit still works because Unstoppable Force knocks up every enemy it touches, and five players sharing one lane give the ult a large target area. Build armor and health so Ground Slam and Granite Shield both scale.

Malphite’s build follows from item text this patch and how it stacks with Granite Shield. We don’t use win-rate data.

How is Malphite changed in ARAM?

ARAM modifier Malphite
Damage dealt 90%
Damage taken 110%

Both numbers go against him. Rocks hit softer here, and they crack faster too. Honestly, that tracks: a five-person knock-up can win a fight by itself, so the mode taxes his damage output to compensate. No bonus Attack Speed, no extra Ability Haste, just the two flat penalties.

Why does Malphite’s kit fit the Howling Abyss?

  • Unstoppable Force: he launches into a group and knocks up everyone it hits. One lane, no side paths, enemies clumped on every wave. That’s exactly what this ult wants.
  • Ground Slam: deals magic damage based on his Armor and reduces the Attack Speed of enemies hit. You’re already on top of them after R, so E lands on the whole team.
  • Seismic Shard: steals Move Speed for 3 seconds. In a lane with no exits, the target can’t get away.
  • Granite Shield: absorbs damage up to 10% of his maximum Health, recharging after a few seconds without taking a hit. Poke on ARAM comes in bursts, so the shield actually gets time to come back between volleys.
  • The weakness? He has 125 attack range. Melee in a mode full of poke, and the 110% damage taken modifier makes every hit land harder before R is even ready.

What should a Malphite ARAM build focus on?

Armor and health. Look, Ground Slam scales off Armor and Granite Shield (which absorbs up to 10% of his max Health) scales off maximum Health, so every tank stat does double work on this champion. Why build damage when the biggest job is pressing R and surviving what comes after?

Heartsteel gives 900 Health and 100 Base Health Regen. Each Colossal Consumption hit adds 70 plus 6% of max Health as bonus physical damage and grants 10% of that damage as max Health. ARAM fights are constant (five players per side in one lane), so the stacks pile up fast, and because Granite Shield absorbs 10% of your maximum Health, all that bonus Health from Colossal Consumption feeds right back into a fatter shield.

Sunfire Aegis brings 350 Health, 50 Armor and 10 Ability Haste. The Immolate passive burns nearby enemies after you take or deal damage, so the moment you land Unstoppable Force into three people, everything around you is already taking magic damage before you press E. The Armor feeds directly into Ground Slam (on a flat 7-second cooldown).

For mana and armor together, Frozen Heart gives 75 Armor, 400 Mana and 20 Ability Haste. Winter’s Caress reduces the Attack Speed of nearby champions by 20%, layering on top of Ground Slam’s own reduction. Thing is, Malphite burns through mana fast when he spams Seismic Shard for poke in ARAM (yes, he runs dry quickly), so the 400 Mana is real value.

Warmog’s Armor adds 1,000 Health and 100 Base Health Regen. If you have 2000 bonus Health and avoid damage for 8 seconds, Warmog’s Heart restores Health per second. You can’t recall to heal in ARAM, so this passive becomes your sustain between fights, and once you stack both Heartsteel and Warmog’s, Granite Shield gets fat enough that poke barely dents you.

How do you play Malphite on the Howling Abyss?

  • Wait for R. Without Unstoppable Force, Malphite is just a melee champion walking into ranged abilities. In practice, you sit behind your wave and poke with Seismic Shard until the ult is up again.
  • Ult when they group. Three or more enemies standing together is the signal. Don’t waste it on one target unless that target is the fed carry and your team is ready to follow.
  • E right after R. Ground Slam hits the moment you arrive, cutting their Attack Speed while your team follows up.
  • Pick up health relics. You can’t recall, and Malphite eats poke while waiting for R. The relics on the map are your only sustain until you finish Warmog’s.

How do shopping and Mark change the plan?

You buy items at the fountain when you spawn and each time you respawn. No recalls. Plan the next purchase before you die so you spend less time in the shop.

Mark throws a snowball, and if it hits you can dash to the target. For Malphite, this is a second engage tool. Why burn your best ability on the front line when Mark gets you in for free? Land the snowball, dash in, then save Unstoppable Force for the back line after the enemy turns to deal with you. Or use Mark when R is on cooldown (130 to 100 seconds depending on rank). Two gap closers means you can threaten a fight way more often than the ult cooldown alone would let you.

Is Malphite good in ARAM?

Malphite in ARAM is good, not great. The nerfs are real. Poke-heavy teams can chip him down before he gets to press R. But does any of that matter when Unstoppable Force lands on three or more enemies? One ult wins the fight, and ARAM hands him that chance every 130 to 100 seconds depending on rank.

If you want to see who gives him trouble on Summoner’s Rift, read the Malphite counters guide. Check the Malphite champion page for his skins, or hit the items database if you want full stats on anything in this Malphite ARAM guide.

Put simply, that’s the whole Malphite ARAM job: soak poke with Granite Shield, wait for the clump, R in.

FAQ

Is Malphite nerfed in ARAM?

Yes. He deals 90% damage and takes 110% damage, according to the League of Legends Wiki’s ARAM data. Both modifiers are penalties.

What is Malphite’s core item here?

Heartsteel for Health stacking (Granite Shield scales with max Health) and Sunfire Aegis for Armor (Ground Slam scales with Armor). Both stats double-dip because of how his passive and E scale.

Does Ground Slam scale with Armor?

Yes. Ground Slam deals magic damage based on Malphite’s Armor, so building Armor increases both his tankiness and his E damage.

Can you recall to shop in ARAM?

No.

Is this build based on win rates?

No. Malphite’s patch 26.21 kit and item text are the whole source. We don’t use win-rate data.
