K’Sante Counters: Who Beats K’Sante

Updated for patch 26.21. Ability descriptions on this page follow Riot’s official game data for the current patch.

K’Sante counters are top laners who shred tanks with true or percent-Health damage, steal his resistances, or punish him the moment he goes All Out and gives up his defenses. He’s a 150-range tank with three dashes, a stun and a wall-throwing ult, so the best picks either outscale his armor or block his crowd control outright.

We built this list from patch 26.21 ability text only (no win rates).

What makes K’Sante so hard to kill?

  • Dauntless Instinct (passive): his abilities mark targets to take more damage from his next attack; All Out boosts all his damage.
  • Ntofo Strikes (Q): a short line strike that damages and slows; at 2 stacks it becomes a shockwave that pulls enemies in. Cooldown 3.5.
  • Path Maker (W): he charges up taking reduced damage, then dashes to knock back and stun. Cooldown 14/13/12/11/10.
  • Footwork (E): a dash with a shield, longer when aimed at an ally, who gets shielded as well. Cooldown 10/9.5/9/8.5/8.
  • All Out (R): he knocks an enemy back through any wall in its path, dashes after it, and gains damage, healing and new abilities while his defenses drop. Cooldown 120/100/80.

Two champions live in this kit. Normal K’Sante is a wall: damage reduction while charging Path Maker, a shield on every Footwork, and a stun to peel or engage. All Out K’Sante is the opposite. He hits much harder and heals, but his defenses go down for the duration, which is a trade you can exploit. So which version do you fight? The tank one as little as possible, and the All Out one as hard as you can.

Which top laners are the best K’Sante counters?

Trundle

Trundle’s ult, Subjugate, takes a cut of K’Sante’s Health, Armor and Magic Resist on cast, and that cut keeps growing until it has doubled 4 seconds later. Against a tank whose whole identity is resistances, that’s close to unfair. His Q, Chomp, also drains some Attack Damage with each bite. Frozen Domain (W) grants Attack Speed, Move Speed and better healing while Trundle stands on it, and Pillar of Ice (E) drops impassable terrain that slows anyone near it (handy for blocking a Footwork path). King’s Tribute (passive) heals him whenever an enemy unit dies nearby.

Fiora

Riposte (W) is the trick. She parries all incoming damage and disables for a short time, and if she blocks an immobilizing effect, her stab stuns the first champion it hits. Path Maker’s stun is exactly that kind of effect. Duelist’s Dance (passive) exposes a weak point on the enemy; striking it heals her and gives Move Speed. Lunge (Q) and Bladework (E) keep her on him. Grand Challenge (R) exposes four of those points at once, with a team heal once she pops them all. Honestly, those weak points don’t care how much armor he stacked.

Gwen

Gwen’s damage is magic or true, and her passive scales with the target’s Health. A Thousand Cuts adds magic damage based on Health and heals her off champions; Snip Snip! (Q) snips up to 6 times with true damage in the center. Hallowed Mist (W) means only enemies inside the mist can target her, so a Path Maker charge from outside goes nowhere. Skip ‘n Slash (E) is a short dash with bonus attack range and on-hit magic damage. Needlework (R) slows from range, three casts in total. Real talk, tanks are what her kit was made to cut through.

Mordekaiser

Mordekaiser’s ult drags K’Sante into another dimension and steals part of his stats, which is bad news for a champion built on stats. It also cuts him off from allies, so Footwork can’t reach a teammate for the bonus range and shared shield. Three hits on champions (attacks or spells) light up his Darkness Rise aura. Obliterate (Q) hits harder on a single enemy, Indestructible (W) turns stored damage into a shield or heal, and Death’s Grasp (E) pulls everyone in an area. If he kills K’Sante in that dimension, he keeps the stolen stats until the respawn.

Kayle

Kayle is the long game. Every level feeds Divine Ascent, her passive, and by the late game she’s attacking a melee tank from well outside his reach. Her Q, Radiant Blast, pierces through targets and lowers their resistances on the way. Starfire Spellblade (E) adds magic damage on attacks and, on activation, damage based on missing Health. Celestial Blessing (W) heals her and the nearest ally. Divine Judgment (R) makes an ally invulnerable, which can waste an entire All Out on a target who can’t die. Early on? To be fair, she just farms and waits.

How do you play against K’Sante in lane?

  • Back off while he charges Path Maker. He takes reduced damage during the charge, so your trades lose value.
  • Count his Ntofo Strikes. The second stack turns the strike into a pull.
  • Stay away from walls when All Out is up. His ult knocks you through any wall in the path.
  • Fight back when he goes All Out. His defenses drop for the duration.
  • Bait Footwork first. At 10 seconds on rank 1, it’s his shield and his escape at once.

Which items help K’Sante counters?

Anti-tank damage, then something for his healing. On AD, Lord Dominik’s Regards pairs 35% Armor Penetration with Giant Slayer, up to 15% extra damage against champions with lots of bonus Health. Mages and AP fighters reach for Void Staff and its 40% Magic Penetration. When he goes All Out, healing kicks in, so Executioner’s Calling (or Morellonomicon on AP) applies 40% Wounds. Mercury’s Treads trim the length of his stun.

When is K’Sante weakest?

During All Out. He gets damage and healing, sure, but loses defenses, and that window is when a burst champion or a duelist should commit everything. Stay off the walls, and his ult’s wall-throw stops being a threat.

Also right after Path Maker. It’s 14 seconds at rank 1 and holds his only stun, so a wasted W gives you a long, safe trade window. New to the role? Our League roles explainer covers top lane basics, the K’Sante ARAM guide has his random-mode build, and his skins are on the K’Sante skins page. Bottom line: K’Sante counters wait for All Out, then hit hard with damage that ignores armor.

FAQ

Who are the strongest K’Sante counters?

Top laners that ignore or steal his resistances, or block his stun: Trundle, Fiora, Gwen, Mordekaiser and Kayle.

When should you fight K’Sante?

While he’s All Out. His damage and healing go up, but his defenses go down.

Can Fiora parry K’Sante’s W?

Yes. Riposte parries damage and disables, and blocking an immobilizing effect like Path Maker’s stun makes her counter-stab stun.

How long is the cooldown of K’Sante’s ultimate?

By rank: 120, 100 and 80 seconds.

How did we choose these K’Sante counters?

From patch 26.21 ability text: each pick ignores, steals or shreds resistances, or blocks Path Maker. Win rates were not used.
