How to reset a forgotten League password
The quick case. Go to Riot’s recovery page, choose the forgotten password option and enter the email or username of the account. Riot emails a reset link to the address on file. Open it, set a new password, and sign in through the Riot Client.
No email arriving? Check spam and promotions folders, wait a few minutes, and make sure you typed the address linked to the Riot account, which may be an older one than you use today. If you have several addresses, try each. Old school or university addresses are a common culprit, since many League accounts were created years ago. Honestly, “wrong email” is the most common reason a reset seems broken.
Pick a password you have not used anywhere else. Reused passwords are how most accounts get stolen in the first place, through leaks from unrelated sites.
How to recover a forgotten LoL username

What to do if your League account was hacked
Move fast, and in this order:
- Try a password reset straight away; if the email is still yours, this locks the intruder out.
- Secure your email account first if it was compromised too: new password, sign out other sessions, turn on two-step login.
- If the account email was changed, look for Riot’s notification email in your inbox; it often contains a way to reverse the change.
- Open a Riot Support ticket, state that the account was compromised, and include the time you lost access and the proof listed above.
- Once you are back in, turn on login verification and check for unknown purchases, friends or penalties.

How long does LoL account recovery take?
Password and username resets take minutes, as long as the email still works and the link has not expired. Links do expire after a while, so if one fails, simply request a new one rather than retrying the old link. Support tickets vary: Riot does not publish a fixed response time, and recovery cases can need several replies while the agent checks ownership. A clear first ticket with all your proof shortens that a lot.

Can you recover an old League account?
Often, yes. Accounts that have not been used for years usually still exist, and the same routes apply: reset by email if you still have it, ticket with proof if you do not. Riot has, in the past, renamed inactive accounts’ public names to free them for others, but the account and its content remain.
To be fair, old accounts are where proof gets thin (receipts expire, emails get deleted). Creation date, region and any old receipts matter more than ever. If the account had no purchases and no reachable email, recovery may simply not be possible, because there is nothing that proves it is yours.

Recovery always favours the person who can prove original ownership.
