Marvel Rivals just raised the bar with a slick new costume customization feature, letting you tweak the color schemes of your favorite hero skins. But before you dive in, there’s one key ingredient you’ll need: Unstable Molecules. Here’s the full scoop on how to get them – and how to use them for maximum style.

What Are Unstable Molecules?

Unstable Molecules are a fresh, game-specific currency introduced in Marvel Rivals, designed exclusively for color customization. With them, you can reimagine the look of certain hero skins by changing their color palettes – adding a personal touch to your in-game appearance.

How to Get Unstable Molecules in Marvel Rivals

Right now, there’s just one method to get your hands on Unstable Molecules:

  • Exchange Lattice – You can convert Lattice (Marvel Rivals’ premium currency) into Unstable Molecules at a 1:1 ratio. So, if you’ve got 600 Lattice, that’s 600 Unstable Molecules.

But there’s more on the horizon. According to an official statement from NetEase:

“Starting Season 3, we will provide more options to obtain Unstable Molecules.”
So hang tight – alternative methods are coming soon.

How Much Does Customization Cost?

Each custom skin color costs 600 Unstable Molecules, but there’s a catch:
👉 You must already own the base skin before you can buy its color variant.

How to Customize Your Skins

Once you’ve got enough Unstable Molecules, here’s how to give your hero a fresh new look:

  1. Head to the Heroes tab on the main screen.

  2. Choose the hero you want to update.

  3. Navigate to the Costumes tab.

  4. Select a skin that supports color customization.

  5. Hit the Customize button.

  6. Pick your new color and confirm.

Bonus: The updated color scheme will show up not just on the battlefield, but also in your MVP screen and emotes – a full visual overhaul.

Skins That Support Color Customization (So Far)

At launch, four hero skins support this feature, each with a unique alt-color:

  • Psylocke – Vengeance SkinPhantom Purple

  • Luna Snow – Mirae 2099 SkinPlasma Pulse

  • Winter Soldier – Blood Soldier SkinWinter’s Wrath

  • Magik – Punkchild SkinRosy Resilience

Each one currently has just one additional color option, but more might be added later.

Do You Need to Own the Original Skin?

Yes – no shortcuts here. You must own the base skin to unlock or purchase any color variations. For instance, no Winter’s Wrath for Winter Soldier unless you already have the Blood Soldier skin.

That’s everything we know for now about Unstable Molecules and skin customization in Marvel Rivals. Want to stay ahead of the curve? Bookmark this page – we’ll keep updating it with the latest info as more options roll out.
