Deadpool can also play as a Vanguard. Plain health runs from 325 (Thor) to 850 (Groot), and six of them add a regenerating shield on top.

Marvel Rivals tanks: every Vanguard hero

This page lists every Marvel Rivals tank with health, release timing and the latest official changes. No tier list. Why? Because NetEase doesn’t publish pick or win rates, and we’d rather not invent them. If you want a ranked opinion, our Marvel Rivals tier list explains its criteria. Health values come from the Marvel Rivals Wiki hero pages (checked October 21, 2026), and balance changes from NetEase’s own balance posts.

Hulk is the odd one. He starts as Bruce Banner with 200 health, becomes Hero Hulk, and his ultimate turns him into Monster Hulk with 1,500. Deadpool switches roles too, with 500 health as a Vanguard and 275 as a Duelist or Strategist.

What does a tank do in Marvel Rivals?

Vanguards hold the front. They have the biggest health pools and most of the game’s crowd control, so their job is to take space, protect the team’s backline and soak damage while Duelists do the killing. Most Duelists and Strategists sit at 250 to 300 health, which puts a 650-health Doctor Strange in a different league.

Not all of them tank the same way, though. Some block (Doctor Strange’s and Magneto’s shields), some go straight at the enemy team (Venom, Captain America, Thor, Angela), and some just stand on the objective and refuse to die (Groot, The Thing, Devil Dinosaur). Thing is, that split matters more than raw health when you pick.

Which Vanguards changed in Season 10.5?

The Version 20261009 balance post touched four Vanguards:

  • Devil Dinosaur: base health from 850 to 825, the only straight nerf.
  • Hulk got faster Gamma Ray Gun projectiles in Banner form (80 to 120 m/s) and double the gamma energy when Gamma Grenade hits himself (50 to 100), plus a stronger Wolverine Team-Up.
  • Magneto: the Emma Frost Team-Up projection deals 50% instead of 45% and lasts 6 seconds instead of 5.
  • The Thing’s Unbreakable Forces cooldown with the Invisible Woman Team-Up drops from 20 to 15 seconds.

Three of the four changes only apply with a specific Team-Up partner. In practice, a Magneto without Emma Frost plays exactly as before, and a Thing without Invisible Woman gets nothing at all from this patch. Our full Season 10.5 buffs and nerfs cover every role.

Which tank should you play?

Depends on your team. That’s a dodge, sure, but it’s the honest answer without usage data. Some practical rules:

If nobody else is tanking, a durable objective holder like Groot, The Thing or Magneto is the safest pick, since you’ll be the only big health bar. With a second tank already on a shield hero, a diving Vanguard such as Venom or Captain America gives the pair more threat. And if your team has Emma Frost or Invisible Woman, the Season 10.5 Team-Up buffs make Magneto and The Thing a little more attractive (for what it’s worth, both buffs are small).

Healers matter as much as the tank, by the way. A dive tank without a Strategist who can follow is a short life; our page on Marvel Rivals healers covers who pairs well.

The newest Vanguards

The Hood is the most recent Vanguard, added on August 7, 2026 in the second half of Season 9, with 550 health. Before him came Devil Dinosaur on May 15, 2026, the second-highest health pool in the role. Deadpool, from January 16, 2026, is the only hero who can pick Vanguard as one of three roles.

Will more come? Very likely. NetEase has added a new Vanguard roughly every few months since launch, from The Thing in Season 1.5 to The Hood in Season 9, so the Marvel Rivals tanks list above will keep growing.
