Promotion and placement
- Season start placements: 10 placement matches place you based on win rate, past rank, and MMR.
- Division promotion: Reach 100 points at a division → promo series (best of 3 games typically).
- Tier promotion (e.g. Gold I → Platinum III): Longer promo series, best of 5 at some tiers.
- Demotion: If you lose at 0 points you drop a division. Multiple losses in a row at your floor can drop you further.
- Rank decay: Diamond and above decay after 7 days of inactivity. Play one competitive match per week to stay safe.
Party queue restrictions
| Your rank | Max rank gap for queued friend |
|---|---|
| Bronze–Gold | 3 divisions apart |
| Platinum | 2 divisions apart |
| Diamond | 1 division apart |
| Grandmaster+ | Solo/duo only (no stacks) |
| Celestial+ | Solo queue only |
If competitive isn’t rewarding
- Expected reward not in inventory? → check 14 days after season end. Rewards distribute in batches.
- Rank reset but no new season? → the “shift” happens on seasonal patch day; check patch notes for confirmation.
- Top 500 title missing? → confirm you were top 500 at the exact season-end timestamp (leaderboard moves fast on final day).
- Can’t climb despite wins? → MMR vs visible rank is separate; wins raise both but slow demotion is possible.

FAQ
When does Competitive mode unlock?
Account level 10. Reach it via Quick Match, Conquest, and modes rotation. Once unlocked, Competitive stays unlocked permanently on that account.
How many ranks are there?
Nine tiers from Bronze to One Above All. Most tiers (Bronze through Celestial) have 3 divisions each (III → II → I). Eternity and One Above All are single tiers.
What rank do I need for the chroma reward?
Gold or higher. The chroma applies to the season’s featured hero, delivered within 2 weeks of season end.
Does rank decay apply?
Yes, at Diamond and above. Seven days of inactivity triggers decay (you lose points, potentially demote). Playing one competitive match per week prevents it.
Can I party with friends at different ranks?
Yes, within limits. Bronze-Gold can queue up to 3 divisions apart; Platinum 2; Diamond 1; Grandmaster+ solo or duo only; Celestial+ solo queue only.
When does the season end?
Season end dates are announced in patch notes. Typical seasons last 10-12 weeks. Check the in-game timer or patch schedule.
Do I keep my rank between seasons?
No — ranks reset each season, usually to a lower tier than your previous peak. Placement matches re-establish your rank at season start.
