Roblox Groups Guide: Create, Ranks, Payouts

Verified November 7, 2026 · Status: live feature

Roblox Groups are communities you can create (costs 100 Robux), join (up to 100 per account), or use to collaborate on experiences — a Group has roles with ranked permissions, a shared wall, forum threads, store for group-exclusive items, and funds pooled from group experiences that owners can divide among members. Creating a group

  1. Go to roblox.com/groups/create.
  2. Pay 100 Robux fee (one-time, per group).
  3. Pick a name (must be unique + Roblox naming rules).
  4. Add a description, emblem (image), and starter rank names.
  5. Click Create — you’re set as Owner with all permissions.

Group roles and permissions

Role Default permissions
Owner Everything — rename, delete, change ownership, payout funds
Admin (custom rank) Manage members, change ranks of lower-ranked, invite
Member (default) Join group, post on wall, access group experiences
Guest Pre-join state; limited access

You can create up to 10 custom ranks per group (1 = low, 255 = owner). Each rank has 20+ granular permissions (post on wall, create forum posts, manage items, payout funds, etc.).

Group features

  • Wall: Public message board where members and visitors can post.
  • Forum (deprecated): Legacy thread system; still accessible but not actively maintained.
  • Store: Group-exclusive items (clothing, accessories) sold under the group name.
  • Experiences: Roblox experiences owned by the group (not individual members).
  • Payout: Owner can distribute group Robux balance among members (one-time or recurring).
  • Allies / Enemies: Legacy feature for inter-group relationships.

Group payout

Group experiences and group store items earn Robux into a shared pool:

  • Only the owner (or role with payout permission) can distribute.
  • Payout options: one-time (specific amount to specific members) or recurring (daily / weekly / monthly split).
  • Minimum payout per transaction: 1 Robux.
  • Payouts are subject to the Roblox 30% “marketplace fee” when cashed out via DevEx.
  • Payment is instant; shows in each member’s Transaction Summary.

Claiming an inactive group

If the group’s owner has been inactive for 30+ days, a member can request to claim ownership:

  1. Group page → three dots → Claim Group (option only appears if owner inactive).
  2. You become the new owner.
  3. Only available to current group members, not outsiders.

If group features aren’t working

  • Can’t post on wall? → rank may lack permission; ask admin to promote you.
  • Payout failed? → group balance may be insufficient; check group transaction history.
  • Store items won’t upload? → verify your account is older than 7 days and email-verified.
  • Can’t join a group? → it may be invite-only; find the owner or an admin.
  • Owner abandoned the group? → wait 30 days then use Claim Group.
  • Related: Roblox DevEx, Roblox credit, rule violations, error codes.
  • Still stuck → Roblox Support ticket with group ID + exact issue.

FAQ

How much does it cost to create a Roblox group?

100 Robux one-time, paid at creation. You also need an active Roblox account that’s email-verified.

How many groups can I join?

Up to 100 per account. If you hit the cap, leave old inactive groups via Settings → My Account → Groups.

How many ranks can a group have?

Up to 11 custom ranks (plus Owner, Guest). You set rank numbers 1-255; higher number = higher authority. Each rank has 20+ granular permissions.

Can I earn Robux from a group?

Yes — group store sales and group experience revenue go into a shared pool. The owner distributes via Payout (one-time or recurring). You can convert earned Robux to real money via DevEx if you meet the thresholds.

What happens if the group owner quits Roblox?

After 30 days of owner inactivity, any member can use the Claim Group option to take over ownership. Only current members can claim — not outsiders.

Can I sell group-exclusive items?

Yes — items in the group store sell under the group’s name. Revenue goes to the group pool (minus Roblox marketplace fee). The owner distributes.

Can under-13 accounts own groups?

Yes, but with Account Restrictions limiting features. Fully functional group ownership requires a 13+ verified account. Creating a group also requires having 100 Robux, which is harder for younger accounts without parental help.
