Marvel Rivals PS5 size is about 60 GB right now, Season 7, April 2026. Doubled from launch. My PS5 shows 60.4 GB when I check under Settings > Storage. Yours might say 59 or 61, patches move it around every week. PC players need over 100 gigs though, so we got off easy on console.
Expect that number to go up soon. Black Cat drops April 17 with Season 7.5, then Blood Hunt PvE on April 23. I already cleared some space on my SSD because I know these seasonal drops always add a few gigs. If you’re about to download this game for the first time, or wondering how much room to save, I got you.
Current Install Size on PS5 (Season 7)
About 60 GB. That’s what my console shows as of mid-April 2026. My friend’s shows 59.8. NetEase patches basically every Thursday and each one shifts things a bit. So there’s no single perfect number, but 60 is where you’ll land give or take a gig.
Quick context: PS5 gives you 667 GB of usable space total. Marvel Rivals chews about 9% of that. Not amazing but not horrible either. CoD takes like 150 gigs. That’s horrible.
| Platform | Install Size (April 2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | ~60 GB | Smallest install across current-gen |
| PS4 | ~45 GB | Lower-res assets, capped at 30 FPS |
| Xbox Series X|S | ~70 GB | A bit bigger than PS5 |
| PC (Steam/Epic) | 100-115 GB | Biggest by far, full-res everything |
Not sure if your PC can run it? We covered that in our Marvel Rivals system requirements page.

Here’s a quick visual showing the size gap between platforms.
How Marvel Rivals PS5 Size Grew Since Launch
December 6, 2024. Launch day. PS5 install: 35.3 GB. I specifically remember being surprised because most shooters these days start at 50+. Didn’t last though. The Marvel Rivals PS5 size basically went up with every single season after that:
| Date | Season | PS5 Size (approx.) | What Changed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dec 2024 | Season 0 | 35.3 GB | Launch (33 heroes, 10 maps) |
| Jan 2025 | Season 1 | ~38 GB | Fantastic Four added |
| Apr 2025 | Season 2 | ~46 GB | Emma Frost, Hellfire Gala map |
| May 2025 | Season 2.5 | ~50 GB | Ultron, Arakko map (huge patch) |
| Jul 2025 | Season 3 | ~53 GB | New heroes, PS4 port prep |
| Sep 2025 | Season 4 | ~55 GB | PS4 version went live |
| Oct 2025 | Season 4.5 | ~58 GB | PC broke 100 GB around here |
| Jan 2026 | Season 6 | ~52 GB | NetEase trimmed ~15% off |
| Late Jan 2026 | Season 6 patch | ~58 GB | New Convoy map, jumped back |
| Feb 2026 | Season 6.5 | ~60 GB | Elsa Bloodstone, Tournament Mode |
| Mar 2026 | Season 7 | ~60 GB | White Fox, Lower Manhattan map |
Season 6 was funny. NetEase made a big deal about compressing assets and cutting the install by 15%. Everyone on Reddit was hyped. Then literally two weeks later they dropped a map and the file size jumped right back. I can’t make this up.
Why PS5 Gets the Smallest Install
Comes up on r/MarvelRivals like every other day. Basically the PS5 has this chip called Kraken built into the SSD controller. It decompresses game data at the hardware level while you’re playing. Other platforms do this through software, which is slower and needs bigger files to work with.
On PC? Steam doesn’t know what your setup looks like. Could be a GTX 1660 on a 1080p screen. Could be a 4090 pushing triple 4K. So the PC build ships textures for every possible scenario, plus shader caches for a million GPU configs. My PC install is 108 GB right now. Almost double.
Xbox uses something called BCPack. It’s fine, but Kraken on PS5 still compresses tighter. That’s the 60 vs 70 GB gap in a nutshell.
Stacking It Against Other PS5 Shooters
Pulled these numbers off my own PS5 and checked with a couple friends to make sure they matched. Wanted to see where the actual Marvel Rivals PS5 size falls compared to other shooters people are running:
| Game | PS5 Install Size | Free-to-Play? |
|---|---|---|
| Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 | ~150 GB | No ($70) |
| Fortnite | ~80 GB | Yes |
| Marvel Rivals | ~60 GB | Yes |
| Overwatch 2 | ~50 GB | Yes |
| Apex Legends | ~75 GB | Yes |
| Destiny 2 | ~105 GB | Partial |
150 gigs for CoD. A paid game. Meanwhile Marvel Rivals gives you 48 free heroes and 20 maps and takes less than half the space. Not even close.
But watch the growth rate. Started under 40 GB, now it’s 60. Sixteen months did that. Another sixteen and it could catch Apex. That’s just how live-service works.
What Season 7 Brought (And What 7.5 Adds)
Season 7 went live March 20. Called “The Hunt Is On.” Fisk went full dictator on NYC after the 2099 Alchemax Corp merged with present-day Manhattan. Marvel being Marvel.
White Fox came in as a Strategist. I mained her for a week in Diamond. Weird kit but strong when your team plays around you. Heals, buffs, and her charm ability turns enemy duelists against their own squad. Lower Manhattan showed up April 2 as a new Convergence map.
Season 7.5 is April 17. Black Cat, melee Duelist. Wall climbing, grapple dashes, stolen artifact mechanic. Then April 23 gives us Blood Hunt PvE with four boss fights and a whole progression system. That mode alone probably adds 2-3 gigs. And the Hellfire Gala event at end of April brings premium skins for Magik, Gambit, Moon Knight, Emma Frost, Phoenix. Each one of those with custom VFX is a few hundred MB, so the Marvel Rivals PS5 size will keep creeping.
Marvel Rivals PS5 Size: Why You Need More Than 60 GB Free
Learned this the hard way. Had 22 GB free. Thursday patch was 12 GB. Update failed. Twice. Had to go delete stuff at 11pm just to get it working.
Why? Because PS5 doesn’t just swap in new files. It downloads the compressed patch, decompresses the whole thing, merges it into existing game data, THEN cleans up old copies. During that merge you need space for both versions at once. That’s the killer.
Keep 80 GB free. That’s my number. Covers the big seasonal drops where the download can be 25-30 GB compressed before it even starts unpacking.
Installing for the first time? PlayStation Store shows the compressed download at about 40-45 GB. But it blows up to 60 once installed. So don’t look at the download bar and think that’s the final number.
Quick Storage Math
- PS5 total usable: 667 GB
- Marvel Rivals installed: ~60 GB
- Breathing room for patches: ~20 GB
- What’s left for your other stuff: ~587 GB
Running CoD, GTA, and Fortnite alongside this? That’s already around 350 GB on four games. Something’s gotta go. External drive is your friend.

Checking Your Install Size Takes 10 Seconds
Fastest way: highlight Marvel Rivals on home screen, press Options on DualSense, tap “Information.” Done. Number’s right there.
Longer way through the menus:
- Hit Settings from home screen.
- Storage.
- Console Storage, then Games and Apps.
- Find Marvel Rivals. GB shows next to it.
I check mine before every major season drop. Always slightly different from what people post online because we’re all on different patch states.
How Long Will the Download Take?
Math for a fresh 60 GB install depending on your connection speed:
| Internet Speed | Download Time (~60 GB) |
|---|---|
| 25 Mbps | ~5.5 hours |
| 50 Mbps | ~2.5 hours |
| 100 Mbps | ~1.3 hours |
| 300 Mbps | ~25 minutes |
| 1 Gbps | ~8 minutes |
Those assume perfect conditions. You never get perfect conditions. PSN gets hammered on patch day, Wi-Fi adds overhead, your roommate starts a 4K stream… yeah. I plug in ethernet for every season patch. Powerline adapters are like $30 if your router is far away. They work. Anything that cuts download time helps, especially when the Marvel Rivals PS5 size keeps going up and patches keep getting bigger.
Biggest time saver I’ve found: auto-update in rest mode. Console grabs the patch while I sleep. Wake up, it’s done. Zero waiting.
PS5 Pro: Same Size, Looks Better
Got a Pro? Install stays exactly the same. Standard PS5 and Pro run the same game files. Pro just renders at higher settings with its beefier GPU. Nothing extra to download.
Upgrading from regular PS5? Transfer your install and play immediately. No re-download.
Clearing PS5 Space for Marvel Rivals Patches
I’ve done this a hundred times at this point. The Marvel Rivals PS5 size goes up, my free space goes down, and I have to figure out what to sacrifice. Here’s my system.
External drive for cold storage. Got a 1TB USB SSD plugged in. Games I haven’t touched in a month go there. Can’t play PS5 games off it, but transferring back takes maybe 10 minutes. Way better than re-downloading 80 GB of Elden Ring.
Kill the capture gallery. Settings > Storage > Game and App Captures. PS5 records screenshots and clips automatically. I had 18 GB of random clips I didn’t even know were there. Deleted everything. Instant space.
Rest mode auto-updates. Patches land Thursdays, 9 AM UTC. Console does it while I’m at work. Come home, game’s ready. No progress bars.
Pre-season cleanup. Season 7.5 drops April 17. I know it’s coming. So a few days before, I go through my storage and make room. Don’t be the person who finds out at midnight that they can’t install the update.
PS4 Versus PS5: Which One and How Big?
PS4 support started September 12, 2025. Smaller install, 40-45 GB. But the experience on old hardware is rough.
| Feature | PS5 | PS4 | PS4 Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Install Size | ~60 GB | ~40 GB | ~45 GB |
| Resolution | 4K (dynamic) | 1080p | 1440p |
| Frame Rate | 60 FPS | 30 FPS | 60 FPS |
| Load Times | ~5 seconds | ~25 seconds | ~20 seconds |
| Haptic Feedback | Yes (DualSense) | No | No |
| Adaptive Triggers | Yes | No | No |
I tried it on a friend’s base PS4 once. 30 FPS felt like playing underwater after months on PS5. Lost fights I shouldn’t have lost just because of frame timing. And those 25-second load screens? Everyone else already picked their heroes by the time I got in. PS4 Pro is better, at least it hits 60 FPS. But if you have a PS5 available, use it. 15 extra GB on your SSD is a tiny price for double the frame rate.
Deleting and Reinstalling? Nothing Gets Lost
All your ranked progress, skins, Battle Pass, everything is on NetEase’s servers tied to your PSN. Only things a reinstall kills are local replay files and whatever custom controller bindings you set up. Everything else comes right back when you log in.
Fresh install pulls the newest complete build instead of layering a dozen patches on top of each other. Usually comes out 1-2 GB leaner. Couple guys in my squad do this every new season. Takes about an hour on 100 Mbps. I do it every other season when stuff starts feeling bloated.
Common Download and Install Problems
Most common issue I see people post about: “not enough free space” error even when they think they have room. Like I said, PS5 needs temp space for the merge step. If you’re within 20 GB of the patch size, it might fail. Fix: delete something, try again.
Second most common: download speeds tanking on patch day. PSN servers get absolutely crushed when a new season drops. Best fix is rest mode auto-update so it grabs the patch at 4 AM when nobody else is downloading. If you’re stuck on a slow download, try pausing and resuming after a few minutes. Sometimes it picks a faster server.
Third issue: game shows “queued for download” but nothing happens. Usually a PSN hiccup. Restart your console, check your internet connection, try again. If that doesn’t work, go to Settings > System > System Software and make sure you’re on the latest PS5 firmware. I had this happen once after skipping a system update.
If you hit Error Code 211 specifically, that’s a Marvel Rivals server-side problem, not your PS5. We wrote a whole Error 211 fix guide for it.
Will Marvel Rivals PS5 Size Keep Growing?
Yeah. NetEase announced a Switch 2 port back in March. Roster hit 48 heroes and Black Cat makes 49 this week. Every hero means models, textures, animations, voice lines, ability VFX. Every event dumps a batch of premium skins. It never stops.
I’d put the Marvel Rivals PS5 size at roughly 70 to 80 GB by December 2026. That’s based on 2-5 GB per season, which matches the growth so far. They might compress stuff again like Season 6, but new content swallows those gains fast.
OW2 is around 50 GB on PS5 right now. Fortnite about 80. Marvel Rivals sits between them. For a free game with the full hero roster unlocked? I think that’s fair.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many GB is Marvel Rivals on PS5?
About 60 GB in Season 7 (April 2026). Mine shows 60.4. Started at 35.3 when it dropped December 2024.
Why is Marvel Rivals smaller on PS5 than PC?
PS5 has a built-in Kraken decompression chip that handles file unpacking at the hardware level. Devs can ship much tighter packages. PC builds carry full-res textures for every hardware config so they end up over 100 GB.
How much free space should I keep for Marvel Rivals on PS5?
80 GB minimum. I’ve had a 12 GB patch fail because I only had 22 GB free. PS5 needs temp space during the unpack-and-merge step before it cleans up old files.
Does the install size go up every season?
Mostly yes. NetEase cut 15% off in Season 6 and the community celebrated. Then one patch later the number was right back up. If you’re keeping tabs on the Marvel Rivals PS5 size, just know the general direction is always up.
Can I play Marvel Rivals on PS4 and how big is it?
Yep, came out September 2025. Install is 40-45 GB. Base PS4 does 30 FPS and 1080p which is rough for ranked. PS4 Pro hits 60 FPS but still has slow loads.
Is 60 GB worth it for a free game?
48 heroes, 20 maps, ranked, PvE, cross-play, zero paywall on characters. Most $70 shooters eat more space. I’d say yes.
