First time I saw Sweetheart Rakan load in, my duo partner pinged question marks at me for a solid ten seconds. February 2018, ranked lobby, I lock in the pink bird man and suddenly nobody trusts my engage. Fair enough. But something about this skin just clicks when you’re feeling confident in lane, especially if your Xayah is running the matching Sweetheart. Been daily driving it on and off since season 8 and I keep coming back to it for reasons I cant fully explain.
What Sweetheart Rakan actually looks like in game
So the whole theme here is Valentine’s Day meets enchanter fantasy. Rakan trades his usual feathered cape for this flowing pink and white outfit with rose petals scattered across the design. The color palette shifts from his base gold and blue to soft pinks, whites, and deep reds. Looks clean in motion.
VFX got a full rework for this one. His Q heal sends out this burst of rose petals instead of the standard feather projectile. W Grand Entrance has this heart-shaped impact zone when you land, and honestly not gonna lie, it feels more satisfying to hit a three-man W when pink hearts explode across the screen. The E dash to allies trails little sparkles and petals behind you. Nothing groundbreaking for an Epic skin but every ability reads differently enough from base that you notice it mid-teamfight.
The recall animation is where Riot put the extra effort. Rakan does this dramatic dance with conjured roses, very theatrical, very him. Fits the champion personality perfectly. Voice lines stay base though, no new VO. Kinda feels like they could have added at least a few Valentine’s themed lines for the price point, but that wasnt really standard for 1350 RP skins back in early 2018.
One thing I noticed around 30 games in: the W animation feels slightly more readable to enemies because of the bright pink circle. Could be wrong here but I swear I get flashed on more when using this skin versus Cosmic Dawn. Might just be Diamond players paying more attention to the flashy pink bird diving their backline at 2 AM on a Tuesday.
The Heartbreakers line and release context
Sweetheart Rakan dropped February 12, 2018 as part of the Heartbreakers skinline. Valentine’s Day batch, obviously. Jean ‘Curing’ Go nailed the splash, capturing Rakan mid-dance with this confident energy that matches the champion’s whole vibe. (Random aside: the splash with Sweetheart Xayah together is genuinely one of the better duo splash compositions Riot has done.)
The Heartbreakers line includes a handful of champions across different years. Sona, Xayah, Annie, a few others. Rakan fits the theme naturally since he’s already the most dramatic charmer on the Rift. The skinline leans into soft romantic aesthetics without going full cheese, which I appreciate.
No chromas on this one. Zero. For a 1350 RP Epic skin released in 2018 that’s not surprising, Riot wasn’t pumping chromas onto every release yet. Still, a deep red or white variant would have been nice. The base pink is the only option you get.
This sits in the Legacy vault now. So you’re not finding it in the regular shop rotation. Hextech only these days unless Riot brings it back for a Valentine’s event, which they do most years around February. Seen maybe 4 of these in my games all last season outside of February.
Is Sweetheart Rakan worth 1350 RP?
Real verdict: it depends on how much you care about the couple’s fantasy. If you and your duo both run Sweetheart Rakan and Sweetheart Xayah, there’s a specific energy in bot lane that no other skin combo gives you. The matching aesthetic in lane is genuinely fun and I’ve had games where the enemy support types “cute skins” in all chat before we peel their ADC apart at level 6.
As a standalone skin though, Rakan has better options now. Star Guardian exists. Elderwood exists. Broken Covenant hit different when it dropped. Sweetheart Rakan is solid for what it is but it’s competing against skins that came out years later with higher production standards. The VFX hold up fine, the model is clean, but there’s nothing here that makes me say this is the Rakan skin if you can only own one.
1350 RP feels fair for the package. Good model, decent VFX, strong recall. Been maining Rakan with this skin specifically during February ranked splits for three years straight now and it never feels outdated. Just not top tier in a world where his skin catalog has grown so much since 2018. Worth picking up from the vault if you’re a Rakan main who wants variety in the rotation, skip it if you already have two or three of his newer skins and dont play duo bot.
