Arcana Rakan

First time I saw Arcana Rakan load in, I thought someone modded the game. The tarot card aesthetic hit different from anything else in Rakan’s lineup. Been running this as my main Rakan skin since it dropped in season 12 and I keep coming back to it even after newer options showed up. Clean visuals.

What Arcana Rakan actually brings to the table

For an Epic tier skin at 1350 RP, this one delivers. New VFX across the board. The W – Grand Entrance – has this golden tarot symbol burst when you land it, and honestly thats one of the cleanest engage animations Rakan has. You slam into the backline during a teamfight and the whole screen lights up with arcane card imagery. Satisfying stuff.

Q sends out this ornate golden projectile that reads way better than base. Not sure if it’s just me but the hitbox feels more visible to my teammates, which means they actually walk into the heal zone more often. Could be placebo. Probably is.

The E – Battle Dance – leaves these trailing card particles when you dash to your ADC. Looks especially good in bot lane when you’re peeling back and forth between carries. The R charm has golden flourishes that spiral outward. Whole thing feels cohesive. Every ability ties into the fortune teller vibe without being over the top.

New recall animation too. Rakan does this dramatic tarot card reading pose, flipping cards around himself. (Random aside: I’ve let the recall finish probably 300 times just to watch it because I’m that guy.) Voice lines stay base, no new VO, but the visual package carries the skin hard enough that it doesnt matter.

The Arcana line and where Rakan fits

Released April 14, 2022. Mid season 12. Marie Magny and West Studio handled the artwork, and they cooked on this one. The splash captures Rakan mid-performance with tarot imagery swirling around him. Banger splash.

The Arcana skinline is one of Riot’s more underrated themes I think. Sits alongside Arcana Ahri, Arcana Camille, and a few others. Rakan fits the mystical performer angle naturally since his whole kit is about dramatic entrances and exits. The fortune teller fantasy maps onto his personality better than most thematic skins manage.

8 chromas total if you want variety. Obsidian is my pick – the dark gold palette makes the VFX pop harder against the Rift, especially during late-game teamfights around Baron pit. Tanzanite runs a close second with the purple tones giving off a more mystical read. Pearl exists if you want the clean white look but I think it washes out some of the particle detail. Shop has it permanently, so no vault anxiety.

Should you lock in Arcana Rakan?

Real verdict: this is top two Rakan skins depending on your taste. Might be overthinking it but I genuinely believe Arcana edges out Star Guardian for pure visual clarity in ranked. Played maybe 40 games with this last month around Diamond 2 and the engage animations just read cleaner to me. My duo partner who plays Xayah says the E dash particles are less distracting than some of his flashier skins too, which matters when you’re trying to peel during a dive.

1350 RP feels fair for what you get. The VFX overhaul alone justifies Epic pricing, and the recall is a nice bonus. If you main Rakan or even just play him as a pocket pick for engage comps, this skin earns its spot in your collection. Been spamming this in Diamond since that one rough Tuesday night session where I dropped from D1 to D3 and honestly the skin kept me from tilting harder than I should have. Small things.

Skip it only if you’re already committed to Elderwood or Star Guardian. Otherwise Arcana Rakan is the Rakan skin if you can only own one. Worth every RP.
